Chapter 122

Chapter 122

The two sat in the car.

It was rush hour, and cars were driving by one after another.

Jin Chuwan looked up at Ran Xian.

In my memory, he has always been someone who cares about his image, not only in terms of his clothes or hairstyle, but also in how he treats people and things.

Although he appears arrogant and spoiled, he never does anything to embarrass others, knows how to keep his jokes within limits, and steps in to mediate when the atmosphere becomes tense. At least in Jin Chuwan's eyes, Ran Xian is one of the most polite people among the main characters.

At least in terms of outward friendliness, he can do his best.

But today, it seems like he just wants to make her angry.

Kim Chuwan couldn't quite understand.

"Instead of asking who's in my family, shouldn't you first explain why you offended my colleague?"

Tan Lu is a person who rarely gets angry. He looks like a tall and strong man, but he is actually easily swayed and not good at refusing, which is why he is always bullied by A Ying.

"My colleague?" Ran Xian moved his lips, as if murmuring, "Your way of addressing me is so affectionate..."

Jin Chuwan couldn't help but press her forehead.

"So you specifically came to find me, someone who's been 'spotted by two rich young masters,' just to study how friendly I am with how I address my colleagues?"

The sky outside was getting darker and darker, and the crimson sunset painted the sea with color.

The car engine was humming, but it remained stationary.

Jin Chuwan's voice carried a sense of surrender and compromise: "Yes... it was my fault for leaving without saying goodbye back then. I shouldn't have kept quiet and shouldn't have only contacted you afterward. But is it really that important to you? Whether I was with you or not, you were going to England anyway. I wasn't essential to you in the first place. But isn't your resentment a bit too much? You're making me feel..."

Kim Cho-wan didn't continue, because the conclusion she hadn't uttered seemed utterly absurd to her.

At most, they were just playing house and using each other as shields. If this is taken as grounds for abandonment and betrayal, then she is truly being wronged.

Jin Chuwan frowned, sighed, and continued.

"Even Jiang Chen and Li Xing'en weren't like you..."

As soon as she finished speaking, a man's laughter came from inside the car.

Brief and hurried, mixed with irony and resentment.

"What kind of person am I...?"

Ran Xian raised his head, his heroic eyes looking at him urgently. In the dim light, his chest heaved violently, but soon calmed down.

He regained his composure, regained his senses, and once again became the aloof and unapproachable young master of the Ran family.

He turned his head and looked ahead.

"Is it because I'm not as considerate as those two, not as obedient and sensible as they are, and not as good at easing your emotions as they are, that you think I'm resentful?"

Ran Xian smiled after he finished speaking.

"Jin Chuwan, have those two men fooled you? Do you think everyone has to go along with you and give in to you?"

Jin Chuwan gripped the steering wheel tightly. Just as she was about to speak, a car horn sounded from behind.

A car was about to pull out, and Jin Chuwan glanced at the rearview mirror. Although she wasn't the one who had parked haphazardly, she still made way for it.

The red sedan drove out of the parking lot and squeezed into the congested lane.

She didn't look at Ran Xian again, nor did she pay attention to what he said.

She drove all the way to Ran Min's hotel, and only after she stopped did she finally speak.

"Get down."

Her phone kept ringing the whole way, but Jin Chuwan didn't answer any of them; she was in a bad mood.

Because of Ran Xian.

He remained motionless in the passenger seat.

Jin Chuwan was a little impatient. She unbuckled her seatbelt, got out of the car, and opened the other door.

She rested her hand on the car door, looking at him coldly.

The young man lowered his eyes, his expression unreadable. After a while, when Jin Chuwan saw that he still didn't react, she reached out and helped him unbuckle his seatbelt.

"Although I haven't achieved the same level of success as Mr. Ran, I'm quite busy myself. If it's not for important business, let's not contact each other anymore..."

She noticed his jaw suddenly tighten and continued.

"You know, I've been completely charmed by two handsome and rich young masters. But what can I do when they're so gentle, considerate, and understanding? You probably don't know, but they're living in my house now, and not only are they quiet and well-behaved, they even prepare breakfast and dinner for me. I was young and naive before, but now I realize they're worth cherishing..."

What do you think?

Kim Cho-wan knew he was talking nonsense, but so what if he was talking nonsense? Would anyone bother to verify it?

The hotel's parking lot is on the rooftop. The evening wind is blowing, and in the distance is a crowded beach, while below is a wide road with a constant flow of cars.

The person in the car finally moved, raising his hand to push the unbuckled seatbelt back in place.

He looked up and smiled at the person outside the car door: "You sound very happy. Won't you invite me to come and see?"

The scrolling lights on the decorative sign kept changing colors, from red to purple and then back to red. The flickering light and shadow fell on the two people, making them look neither dignified nor appropriate.

Jin Chuwan looked at Ran Xian's moist eyes, and her hand on the car door suddenly stiffened.

He was the one who put on airs first, he was the one who distanced himself first, he was the one who said so many harsh and hurtful things, so what is he doing now?

She hadn't even seriously started to retaliate yet.

Why is he crying?

Jin Chuwan wanted to pretend she hadn't seen it, but her anxiety told her that she had already missed her chance.

"Ran Xian..."

Jin Chuwan pondered the right words, then opened her mouth with mixed feelings.

"If I remember correctly, you were the one who wanted to pretend to be a couple."

"That was just a spur-of-the-moment, fake contract. You said you weren't interested in dating, and I said I wasn't either."

Jin Chuwan couldn't describe her current feelings. Surprise? Unexpected? Helplessness? Laughable?

"I never thought in that direction, you should understand..."

The man in the car's Adam's apple bobbed as he nodded and smiled nonchalantly.

"What do you mean by all this? What, do you think I like you?"

Jin Chuwan looked down.

Isn't that so?

"Really? Which eye did you see that with? Do you think you're some kind of angel? That all the men in the world revolve around you?"

Normally, Jin Chuwan would never deliberately provoke a man who had already lost his temper, but Ran Xian had really angered her today.

"Of course, no man in the world will revolve around me, but didn't you save my emails on your phone and read them many times? Why are you so angry that I left without saying goodbye? Because you're twisted and jealous. Of course, you can deny it, but why did you cry when I told you to cherish Jiang Chenxing'en?"

"Oh, sand got in because of the strong wind?"

As soon as Jin Chuwan finished speaking, Ran Xian suddenly raised his head. She saw tears suddenly slide down his cheeks, saw the anger in his eyes, and saw his body like a taut fishing line about to break.

Along the way, she had thought of many explanations for him: that he had suffered a lot in the past few years and his personality had changed drastically, or that he hated Li Xingen because of her, or that he simply disliked her.

But after he shed tears, they could no longer reason with him.

Kim Chu-wan turned his head away. The wind blowing from the seaside wasn't always refreshing; sometimes it could be unsettling.

She turned to look at him. Ran Xian was leaning back in his chair with his eyes closed, as if he was calming down.

"Aren't you going to argue anymore?"

After Jin Chuwan finished speaking, she heard a man's laughter coming from inside the car.

A little hoarse.

"What's the point of arguing back, or not arguing back? You won't care anyway..."

It's always been like this.

He waited alone, acted foolishly alone, and excitedly went to find her all by himself.

But she didn't care at all.

She left him, abandoned him, and even left only a few perfunctory words in her messages.

What's so great about her?

There are so many women in the world, what's so special about her?

Ran Xian thought bitterly, he wanted to continue mocking her, ridiculing her, and belittling her.

But when he opened his eyes and saw her, he reached out and hugged her like a madman who couldn't control his behavior.

He held her tightly, ignoring her resistance.

"Hey, this is really uncomfortable—"

Jin Chuwan pushed hard several times but eventually gave up.

The car door was open, Ran Xian was lying in the passenger seat, and she was lying on top of him.

The two were in an awkward and unsightly position, and Jin Chuwan was only thankful that there was no one else around.

"What makes you so great?"

She heard his voice, right next to her ear.

It's a bit broken.

"What makes you so great..."

Jin Chuwan paused for a moment, then nodded in response in his arms.

"Um, I'm fine..."

She had barely opened her mouth when the man pressed her against his chest again. Jin Chuwan smelled Ran Xian's cool scent and suddenly became a little distracted.

She was wondering what kind of perfume it was.

After crossing out more than a dozen men's perfumes, Jin Chuwan began to guess what brand of laundry detergent it was.

Time passed slowly, and the wind blew through the car window onto the two of them. The surroundings were so quiet that it felt like another world.

Then Kim Cho-wan's phone rang again.

She nudged Ran Xian.

"Let go, I need to answer the phone."

She felt the man holding her stiffen for a moment before slowly loosening his grip.

She finally stood up and took her phone out of the car.

It was Jiang Chen calling. Jin Chuwan answered the phone and held it to her ear.

"Why haven't you gone home yet?"

Jin Chuwan glanced at Ran Xian, but he turned his head away and didn't look at her.

Are you...shy?

As Jin Chuwan was thinking, she suddenly heard Jiang Chen's voice.

"Out drinking again?"

"No, I just ran into a friend and I'll probably be back a little late... Just leave me some food."

After Jin Chuwan finished speaking, Jiang Chen's laughter came through the phone.

She was a little confused by the laughter: "What's wrong?"

The man on the phone stopped laughing. She could hear Cheng Ya and Li Xing'en arguing on his end, or rather, Cheng Ya unilaterally accusing Li Xing'en of not doing housework.

"It's nothing, it's just that this feeling is kind of nice..."

Jin Chuwan scratched her head, unsure of what to say, but fortunately Jiang Chen didn't say much either.

"That's settled then, you should go home early."

After Jiang Chen finished speaking, he hung up the phone. Jin Chuwan stared at her phone for a while, then got back into the car.

Ran Xian's emotions seemed to have stabilized a lot. He crossed his arms, looking like a man who had caught his wife cheating.

"You're with Jiang Chen now?"

It seems he heard the phone call.

Kim Cho-wan also looked at him.

"Shall we go take a look?"

Their eyes met, neither willing to back down. Ran Xian tried to calm his breathing, and after a moment he smiled.

"Why don't you go? Didn't you say you wanted to cherish him? Let me see how sweet you two are."
