Chapter 59
Ran Xian fell into a brief silence at Jin Chuwan's suggestion. He felt that this kind of couple's activity was childish, but he still leaned on the table and picked out more than twenty outfits with Jin Chuwan.
They couldn't accept anything too ambiguous or intimate, and anything too cartoonish or childish didn't suit their tastes.
After discussing it, the two finally chose a set of pictures of dogs being walked.
But then they started passing the buck about who should use the dog.
"That's how it's always done, the woman leads the man, it's never the other way around. Haven't you ever been in a relationship?"
This was the first time Ran Xian had been mocked like this. He calmed down for a while before asking a question in return.
"Have you talked about it?"
Jin Chuwan smiled, her expression enigmatic.
Ran Xian also laughed, then composed himself.
"Don't pretend."
...
The negotiations ultimately failed because Ran Xian was suddenly called away by a phone call.
Before leaving, he still arranged for a driver to take Jin Chuwan home. Perhaps because they were now in a cooperative relationship, Jin Chuwan accepted Ran Xian's help quite readily, and even felt a little critical.
That evening, Jin Chuwan sat on her small bed, silently staring at the online chat page. She had hesitated for a long time before finally changing her profile picture. Almost simultaneously, she saw Ran Xian's profile picture refresh.
Two dogs.
Jin Chuwan's brows relaxed slightly. She opened the settings again and changed her profile picture.
The page refreshed again after the upload was successful.
Two ropes.
Jin Chuwan thought Ran Xian was joking with her. She waited patiently for a while, and soon Ran Xian's avatar flashed again. This time, it finally looked pleasing to the eye.
Jin Chuwan stared at the phone for a while, then tossed it aside.
She's a little tired today, but she can't rest yet.
Jin Chuwan sighed, soaked the dirty clothes in the basin, and then squatted on the ground, quietly watching the gushing water from the faucet. Her expression was somewhat blank, as if she were in a daze or deep in thought.
In fact, she herself couldn't explain it clearly; she seemed to be in a state of mixed clarity and confusion.
On the one hand, she knew very well that everything was fake, but on the other hand, she felt inexplicably anxious and helpless because there was a person with a special identity in her life.
The moonlight outside the window was hazy and indistinct. Jin Chuwan seemed preoccupied that night and didn't sleep well. But she wasn't the only one who didn't sleep well under the same moonlight.
Cheng Ya stared blankly at the chat page in her hand; she had been in this position for more than ten minutes.
When the maid who was taking care of her saw her like this, she thought she was not feeling well. She asked softly, but it seemed to frighten her.
"No, no, I'm fine..."
Cheng Ya stammered in response, then clutched her phone to her chest and walked toward the bedroom as if she had lost her soul.
How could that be?
Cheng Ya flipped through her contacts, looking at the two people's profile pictures, and then lay down on the bed as if struck by something.
"That can't be... If it were true, Wanwan would definitely tell me..."
"Besides... Wanwan's taste shouldn't be that bad..."
Cheng Ya murmured to herself as if trying to convince herself. She turned over, wanting to close her eyes and go to sleep quickly, hoping to wake up in the morning and find that it was just a misunderstanding.
At that moment, she felt a surge of anger, as if her partner had been betrayed. Rationally, she knew she shouldn't be so angry, but she couldn't help but sit up and punch the pillow behind her.
If she could, she would definitely throw Ran Xian into outer space.
--
The next day was another sunny day.
Birds and cicadas chirped in turn in the trees. Jin Chuwan stared at the treetops for a while before slowly sitting up in bed. Her phone screen lit up; it was still five minutes until six o'clock.
She took off her pajamas, went straight to the bathroom to take a shower, and then stood in front of the fan wearing a tank top.
She knew this was bad for her health, but the room was stuffy and she felt very uncomfortable.
Jin Chuwan pressed her forehead and then glanced at the ceiling of the bedroom.
The air conditioner suddenly stopped in the middle of the night, and she woke up feeling hot and dizzy.
She felt very tired and sleepy, but she didn't want to rest right now. Jin Chuwan changed her clothes and went downstairs to a breakfast shop for a meal. When she felt it was almost time, she called the air conditioner manufacturer's after-sales service.
It's called after-sales service, but it's really just a retailer. After answering the phone, the boss seemed a bit embarrassed, but still said he would definitely go to repair it, just that it might be a bit late.
"It's peak season now, and the driver has several orders on his hands. Please understand."
Jin Chuwan didn't say anything more after hearing this. The two agreed to meet at 6 pm, and then Jin Chuwan started thinking about where they should go to escape the heat.
She glanced at the rising sun and considered whether or not to go to the study room.
However, she is not in a good state right now, and even if she goes, she probably won't be able to concentrate.
Jin Chuwan stood blankly at the entrance of the breakfast shop until her phone vibrated; it was Luo An.
It was about a group project; she hadn't finished her part yet, so she came to Jin Chuwan to complain. Jin Chuwan listened for a while, then glanced at the station not far away.
Are you in your dorm room?
After Jin Chuwan finished asking her question, Luo An was puzzled for a moment, then his eyes lit up again.
"I'm here, and my roommate went on a date with her boyfriend, so I'm all alone in the dorm right now. Do you want to come over?"
Jin Chuwan nodded and then said into the phone, "Wait for me a moment."
Luo An was very happy on the other end of the phone. She thought that Jin Chuwan might be able to help her with her homework, but after Jin Chuwan arrived, she quickly gave up her wishful thinking.
"Chu Wan, what's wrong? You look terrible!"
Jin Chuwan rubbed her head, smiled at Luo An, and said she was fine. She glanced around the room and then sat down on Luo An's bed.
The dorms at Tsinghua University are actually quite nice, with four people per room, air conditioning, and a private bathroom. It's just that due to the allocation system, Luo An currently only has one roommate.
Seeing Luo An's worried expression, Jin Chuwan explained.
"I'm just a little tired."
Upon hearing this, Luo An quickly spread out the bed and then looked at Jin Chuwan with a serious expression.
"Then you can sleep here for a while. If you feel unwell, just tell me and I'll take you to the school doctor!"
Luo An is usually cheerful and easygoing, but now that he's serious, Jin Chuwan can't refuse. She obediently lies down and listens to Luo An rambling on about schoolwork.
At first, Kim Cho-wan would answer some questions, but later she actually fell asleep in a daze.
She was in a light sleep; she could hear the sound of typing on a keyboard and occasionally felt something vibrating beside her, but she didn't wake up. Luo An's bed was very comfortable, soft, and smelled of floral water. Jin Chuwan drifted off to sleep until she heard a melodious and cheerful tune.
Jin Chuwan felt a sense of familiarity while she was asleep. She pondered deeply, and then suddenly, as if her memories were returning, she finally realized what was happening.
She opened her eyes in a daze.
Then I picked up my phone from beside my pillow.
It was Ran Min calling again.
She subconsciously searched the room, but Luo An was nowhere to be found. However, there was a note on the table that said he was going to the library to borrow books and would be back soon.
While she was reading the note, Ran Min hung up the phone. Jin Chuwan hurriedly turned on her phone, intending to call Ran Min back, but instead saw more than a dozen unread text messages.
The first message was from Ran Xian, asking her to come out for lunch together.
The next two were both about Li Xing'en. He didn't have anything special to say; he just talked to her about things that happened around him, as usual.
After replying, Jin Chuwan continued scrolling down, finding a total of fifteen messages, all from Cheng Ya.
It was clear that she was in even worse shape than her; the messages she sent were completely incoherent. At first, she said she had just woken up, then she said she wasn't fully awake yet, then she said she couldn't accept it, and later she said she would give her blessings if she really liked it.
Jin Chuwan was confused by what she saw, so she simply stopped looking at it and called Cheng Ya directly.
The other party answered quickly. Before Cheng Ya could speak, Jin Chuwan asked directly, "I saw your message, it's a bit confusing, what's wrong?"
At first, Jin Chuwan thought Cheng Ya had sent the wrong message, but the next moment she heard Cheng Ya's muffled voice on the phone.
“I saw it last night.”
Kim Cho-man asked in confusion, "What did you see?"
"You and Ran Xian changed your profile pictures to matching couple photos..."
After Cheng Ya finished speaking, Jin Chuwan subconsciously gripped her phone tighter.
This is too fast. She hadn't even figured out how to tell Cheng Ya yet, and Cheng Ya had already noticed something was up. Jin Chuwan blinked. The other person's tone gave her the feeling of being caught in a puppy love.
"To be honest, it's not that I'm prejudiced, but that kid is narcissistic and pretentious. He's not good enough for you at all. I can help you meet someone better..."
As Jin Chuwan heard Cheng Ya's voice growing increasingly anxious, she was about to comfort her when she heard another sound of frustration.
"How exactly did he bewitch you...?"
Jin Chuwan rubbed her forehead. After waking up, she felt much better. Cheng Ya was still picking on Ran Xian's faults in her ears. She originally wanted to tell Cheng Ya the truth, but now it seemed that if Cheng Ya knew the truth, it would probably ruin their plans. Jin Chuwan thought about it and found it very difficult to speak, but she still spoke up.
"Cheng Ya, we are indeed dating, and... I think he's a great guy..."
Jin Chuwan didn't know how she managed to say it, and the thought of having to keep up the act suddenly made her feel exhausted.
She must be crazy to go crazy with Ran Xian.
Cheng Ya's voice abruptly stopped on the phone; she seemed to be caught in some kind of shock.
Cheng Ya suddenly hung up the phone. She ran her fingers through her hair and then pressed her head down.
This is different; her guess and hearing Kim Cho-wan talk to her about love are really different.
Moreover, Cheng Ya truly felt from the bottom of her heart that Ran Xian was not good enough for her Wanwan. She was somewhat bewildered. About 24 hours ago, she was still dreaming of finishing her work and going on a vacation to an island with Jin Chuwan.
Her plan was to stay with Kim Cho-wan forever, but now she suddenly tells her that she has a boyfriend.
She felt annoyed that something had been taken away from her, but there was nothing she could do about it.
Cheng Ya was heartbroken, so she called her brother in an attempt to distract herself from her grief, but in the chaos, she chose the wrong contact.
--
Jiang Chen, who was about to catch his flight, frowned and glanced at the caller ID. However, he eventually answered the call. The first thing he heard was a curse, followed by a woman's voice that gradually became clearer.
"Brother, do you know? Wanwan and Ran Xian are together! They're actually together! I'm going crazy... Why that guy...?"
In the dense crowd, the tall, aloof young man slowed his pace, his long, deep eyes momentarily hesitant and frozen.
His Adam's apple bobbed slowly, his voice low, hoarse, and somber.
"Say it again, who and who?"
