Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Jin Chuwan sat in the chair, her head down, her gaze flickering slightly.

Of course, she knew that Jiang Chen said those words out of concern, but she was still a grown woman, and being coaxed like that made her feel somewhat uneasy.

Fortunately, he left soon.

Jin Chuwan's gaze followed Jiang Chen's back to the two people talking in front of the kitchen. Their every move seemed out of place in her cramped and simple house.

But they showed no sign of leaving, Jin Chuwan thought worriedly.

She still had a slight urge to escape.

The girl sitting in the chair let out a soft breath. Her light-colored eyes always seemed to hold some thoughts, but upon closer inspection, they seemed to be empty.

The room suddenly fell silent, with only occasional low chatter coming from the kitchen. The doctor seemed to be particularly talkative, and Jin Chuwan heard Jiang Chen reply several times in a detached voice, "Get out of here."

She couldn't help but chuckle softly again, then looked at Li Xing'en, who was resting on the sofa.

His eyes were closed, and his complexion seemed a little better, but he still looked pale and tired. Jin Chuwan moved her chair closer to the sofa, then raised her hand and touched his head.

It's still a bit hot.

This was the first time she had seen Li Xing'en sick. She was usually someone who could handle anything with ease, but after falling ill, she seemed to become very sensitive and vulnerable.

Jin Chuwan couldn't help but sigh. Her voice was very soft, but it still startled the boy in front of her.

The person on the sofa slowly opened his eyes. His gray eyes were somewhat hazy, but they became clear in an instant.

Their eyes met, and this time Jin Chuwan didn't look away. She looked into Li Xing'en's calm and composed eyes, her heart pounding for a moment, but she only replied softly.

"Dinner will be served later, you can continue sleeping."

Li Xingen blinked slowly, then gave a barely audible "hmm".

However, he did not close his eyes, but simply turned his body slightly to lean closer to Jin Chuwan.

Suddenly, a mocking voice came from the kitchen: "Can't you even cook?"

Jin Chuwan stared nervously at the back of Li Xing'en's hand, afraid that she might see any bulges or bleeding.

Fortunately, none of her worries came true.

She only saw the boy's peaceful and calm eyes.

His hair was a little damp and messy, but his face was still charming and handsome, like a flower petal after being rained on, exuding a withered beauty.

Kim Cho-wan inadvertently noticed the 'scar' on Lee Sung-eun's neck again.

To be precise, it was the wound from her bite.

I hadn't noticed it before, but now it looks like it's faintly streaked with blood.

Jin Chuwan wanted to cover her head and hide again, but she didn't move.

Because Li Xingen was holding her hand, he was turned to the side in a seemingly intimate position, but in reality, their fingers were only weakly intertwined.

She heard Lee Sung-eun speaking in a hoarse voice about his childhood. His voice was so low that only Kim Cho-wan could hear it.

She knew most of what he was saying, but as she listened, she felt that perhaps he only thought he knew.

The boy's eyelids were lowered, so she couldn't see his expression, but she could hear him recounting the past in fits and starts.

His resentment, his hatred, his meanness, his indifference.

Those past experiences of being slandered, exiled, and impoverished have not faded into memories with the passage of time; it's just that life is now peaceful and beautiful, so there's no need to dwell on the past.

But he still held a grudge.

He still loathed her, but could only comply with his mother's request to reconcile and greet her with a smile.

Li Xing'en never mentioned these things to anyone, not even Lily.

Sometimes he felt that his parents' goodness was just so-so. If there really was a matchmaker in the world, the rope tied around their bodies wouldn't be the soft and strong red thread, but rather the sticky, sweet silk thread used to make sugar figurines. It would be sweet, of course, but it would crumble at the slightest touch.

Jin Chuwan listened quietly. His voice remained low and hoarse, but his tone was calm, as if he were talking about someone else's trivial matters.

His eyelashes trembled slightly.

"Golden Night..."

She heard his voice suddenly become dry, as if he had a lot to say, but then fell into a long silence.

Li Xingen adjusted her breathing, then said frankly, "Don't worry about anything, and don't hesitate or feel awkward..."

"No matter how you treat me or what choices you make, it doesn't matter. Let's just be like before..."

Jin Chuwan did not answer; she too was lost in a jumble of thoughts.

To be honest, her heart was beating a little fast.

Perhaps mortals are just mortals. No matter how noble their character, they will secretly feel smug when someone of high status bows down to them.

Kim Cho-man admitted that she was moved, but that was all.

At this moment, she also began to feel shocked by her own cold-heartedness.

The narration from Li Xing'en was like Ma Liang's magic brush, bringing to life the few passages that had long existed in Jin Chuwan's mind. The black and white words gradually came to life, becoming a living, breathing person.

Jin Chuwan forced a fairly light smile, hooked her finger around Li Xing'en's, and slowly nodded in his beautiful, suppressed, expectant eyes.

They are still the same as before.

That's what he said.

--

A short while later, Jiang Chen and Xia Zhihe came out of the kitchen with dinner.

The square folding dining table was fine for Jin Chuwan to use by herself, but now that there were two more people, it felt very cramped.

Xia Zhihe sighed. He glanced at Jin Chuwan, utterly bewildered by her charm that made the young master condescend to stay in such a place.

But none of this mattered to him. After having dinner and changing his IV drip, he went back to his big villa to rest.

The rain outside had gradually stopped. Jin Chuwan looked out the window and then sat down to eat.

She thought it would be inconvenient for Li Xing'en to be on an IV drip, but she didn't expect that he was good with both hands. As long as the IV bottle was hung up, he could sit at the table and eat normally.

During the conversation, Xia Zhihe asked a practical question.

"Hey, you two, you're not planning to stay here all night, are you?"

He was just asking casually, since Jiang Chen had changed into his pajamas, and he naturally assumed they were living together. But now that there was a patient in the house, he was worried that Jiang Chen would dump this person on him.

Li Xingen's gaze darkened. He had recovered a lot by now. He looked at Jin Chuwan, who had no expression and was just eating with her head down.

He knew very well that if he insisted on staying here, Jiang Chen wouldn't leave either.

The boy's eyes held a hint of weariness, but he didn't want to leave.

He also had something to say to Kim Cho-man.

He didn't actually regret his 'impulsive' actions today.

He can't always pretend to be a good nephew in front of her.

--

After dinner, Li Xing'en's first IV drip was almost finished, and Xia Zhihe put down his chopsticks and began to change the patient's water.

Jin Chuwan and Jiang Chen were washing dishes in the kitchen when she started to feel sleepy, her eyes limply open.

She wanted to rest, but the guests hadn't left yet.

Li Xing'en's IV drip would last another half hour. She glanced at Jiang Chen, who showed no sign of leaving and was still talking about school.

It seems that K University and T University are holding academic conferences soon, and they might even be assigned to the same research topic.

Jin Chuwan seemed to vaguely recognize the name.

"That probably won't be my turn. There are only two spots in our class, probably for the class monitor and the academic representative."

Jiang Chen smiled, neither confirming nor denying.

After they left, Li Xing'en lay down on the sofa again.

Xia Zhihe was packing his things, seemingly preparing to leave.

"This is the last bottle. He should be in pretty good shape. After the IV drip, get a good night's sleep. If he's not better by tomorrow, we'll have to take him to the hospital." He then patted Jiang Chen on the shoulder. "I'll leave the needle removal to you."

Jin Chuwan nodded and watched the doctor leave.

Jiang Chen did not stop him; he did not want Xia Zhihe to appear in front of Jin Chuwan unless necessary.

This person's thinking is very disordered. Although they appear normal, their emotions are actually very unstable.

They are easily agitated and prone to impulsive decisions.

In short, it's best to get out of here as soon as possible.

As if to verify Jiang Chen's thoughts, just as Jin Chuwan was about to close the door, the man who was about to leave suddenly raised his hand to stop her.

The tall man leaned against the metal door frame, glanced at Jin Chuwan with a complicated look, and then suddenly lowered his head.

"To be honest, I think you seem pretty innocent. Don't be fooled by a man's good looks." The man pointed in a certain direction in the room with his sharply defined chin. "Especially those rich young masters. Just treat them like suckers and flaunt them, don't get too emotionally involved..."

Jin Chuwan was completely confused, but the next second, the metal door frame was slammed shut by the boy behind her.

Those dark eyes stared menacingly at the man who hadn't managed to stop in time.

"roll."

Xia Zhihe smiled ambiguously, then led the medical kit downstairs.

He didn't necessarily want to steal Jiang Chen's girlfriend. On one hand, he was in a bad mood and wanted revenge, and on the other hand, he felt that Jiang Chen was so rich, yet he still let his girlfriend live in such a simple place.

"What a scumbag, absolutely a scumbag."

Jiang Chen's anger had not subsided. He looked down at Jin Chuwan, who was standing in his arms. Her eyes trembled slightly, as if she was frightened by him.

He pursed his lips and then stepped back a little.

"Don't listen to that person's nonsense."

Jin Chuwan blinked. She hadn't expected the doctor to suddenly say those things. She thought he must have misunderstood something, but it was too late to explain now.

She scratched her hair and then nodded.

"good."

After she finished speaking, she walked around Jiang Chen and went into the house.

Lee Sung-eun was also watching them. He had obviously heard the doctor's advice to Kim Cho-wan. He glanced thoughtfully at Jiang Chen, then lowered his eyes and chuckled silently.

At that moment, Jin Chuwan's phone, which was on the table, rang.

Jiang Chen frowned as he saw Ran Xian's name on the caller ID, just as Jin Chuwan walked over and answered the phone.

He couldn't hear what was being said on the phone, but he saw Jin Chuwan reply with "okay" a few times, along with "I've eaten" and "I'm much better."

With his mood repeatedly ruined, Jiang Chen's gaze gradually darkened.

Lee Sung-eun was waiting for Kim Cho-wan to hang up the phone, because she had never been reserved in front of him in the past, so he knew very well how few of her friends were.

Generally speaking, the only person calling at this time is the girl named Cheng Ya.

However, a male voice could be faintly heard on the phone.

Li Xingen raised an eyebrow, but only asked casually.

"Are you a classmate?"

Jin Chuwan paused for a moment after hanging up the phone. She turned around to look at Li Xing'en and then at Jiang Chen standing behind her.

"no."

She shook her head, her light-colored eyes looking calm yet dazed. She put her phone back on the table and then opened her mouth.

"He's my...boyfriend."
