Chapter 190: How to Avoid Being Hunted Down

"Um... what you said seems to make a lot of sense."

Ficklin looked at Maggie with some skepticism, but seeing the sincerity in Maggie's eyes, he reluctantly believed that there was no such thing as 'Dragon Mint'.

Maggie calculated the time and judged that today's treatment was probably over, so she didn't stay in Ficklin's room any longer. After chatting for a while, she turned around and left.

She turned to the right to go upstairs to her room, unaware that a pair of clear, bright eyes were silently watching her back.

Maggie probably didn't expect that she would be seen by Xiu, who was returning from the library, as she left Ficklin's room.

Xiu didn't call out to Maggie, but quietly watched her figure disappear from sight, his lips pressed into a straight line.

At the same time, as Maggie was walking, she suddenly felt a chill down her spine. When she turned around, she saw only an empty corridor. A hint of doubt flashed in her eyes, but since she hadn't noticed anything, Maggie could only suppress her confusion.

She quickened her pace and hurried back to her room.

Although her safety was 90% guaranteed in the temple, it couldn't be ruled out that a mentally ill person might come to the temple to assassinate her, since she had offended too many people.

Her sixth sense is usually very accurate, and most of the time you can trust it.

Maggie thought to herself.

...

The magic competition in Santa Fe City was a great success, attracting many people from other kingdoms to the city not as participating magicians, but as tourists.

The road was bustling with activity. Maggie, escorted by a paladin, made her way through the crowd, but her gaze was fixed on a male mage wearing a dark green magic robe.

Perhaps because Maggie's gaze was too direct, the green-robed magician also raised his head and met Maggie's eyes.

Upon seeing that it was the Holy Maiden of Light, he nodded and smiled politely at her.

A faint sense of unease crept into Maggie's heart. She shifted her gaze away from him, choosing to pretend she hadn't seen anything.

She thought she would encounter a magician with a water elemental spirit on the field, but she never expected to meet him on the road.

Laurie Frank, a water mage, also comes from the Lunita Magic Academy and is a good friend of the dragon knight Merlin.

Maggie lowered her eyes slightly; it seemed that her relationship with the Dragon Knight family was unlikely to improve now.

She wanted to obtain the water elemental spirit from this person, or perhaps it could be called a rescue.

She admitted that the man in front of her hadn't done anything wrong; he wasn't a villain or a bad person, just an ordinary magician who came to participate in the competition. He was only targeted by Maggie because he had elemental spirits on him.

This is the first time Maggie has taken the initiative to take action against someone for personal reasons.

Maggie glanced at Roy, who was walking leisurely beside her. The guilt that had just risen up for no reason vanished without a trace. Helping her friend rescue her people was what she should do.

Of course, it would be best if that person were willing to give her the water elemental spirit in exchange; Maggie didn't want to resort to particularly violent means.

Gathering her thoughts, Maggie walked through the crowd and directly into the dueling arena.

Gillian and Burvin were already seated wherever their eyes fell.

And then there's Nidia, the charming president of the Continental Magicians' Association.

Because Gillian is quite petite, her legs can't even reach the ground when she's sitting in the chair. If Maggie had forgotten her amazing fighting prowess last night, she would definitely still treat her like a child.

Although it's still the same now, the difference is probably... I'll be more cautious with her?

Maggie seemed to be deep in thought.

"I was busy dealing with matters in the eastern suburbs yesterday and didn't attend the competition. It's a real pity that I didn't see Her Highness the Saintess."

Gillian took the initiative to speak, referring to the night the siege of the eastern suburbs ended, when Maggie chose not to show herself.

"Don't regret it, there will be many more opportunities to cooperate with the president."

Maggie remained noncommittal.

Over the next few hours, Gillian chatted casually with Maggie, subtly probing Maggie's status and power within the temple, which Maggie readily shared with her.

However, there are outsiders here, so I can only speak rather cryptically.

"Speaking of which, your temple's paladins are more suited to be blood hunters than we blood hunters."

As they were talking, Gillian suddenly sighed for no apparent reason.

Maggie was silent for a moment, and Harun was the first person she thought of.

"It seems the Blood Hunter Guild also knows about Kronen's fate."

Maggie had a smile on her lips.

"It is said that a nun from your temple accidentally wandered into the secret room and saw the scene inside clearly, and had nightmares all night."

"Does your temple's Holy Knight Commander also have some deep-seated grudge against vampires?"

Gillian asked with some curiosity.

"No."

Maggie only uttered two words.

As far as she knew, there was no such thing, but she and Harlan hadn't seen each other since that day. She should have gone to him to ask for the reason.

Or... could it be that Harlen's mysophobia kicked in while she was fighting Kron?

It seems that Coron really made him look bad that day, and it's not impossible that it was out of revenge.

Something felt off, but Maggie couldn't quite put her finger on it.

Boulvin listened to their conversation in a daze, looking completely bewildered. As time ticked by, he couldn't get a word in edgewise. Since he still had deals to complete with Maggie, he had no choice but to interrupt their conversation.

"Your Highness, the knowledge you seek is extremely limited even within the Tower. What do you think?"

He looked somewhat embarrassed. They considered themselves the most intelligent academic organization, and the knowledge Maggie wanted, they had searched the entire tower but hadn't found much of it, which was a bit embarrassing.

Maggie shifted her gaze from the center of the field to Polvin, and seeing the young man's ashamed face, her tone naturally softened.

"Don't worry, even if we don't have that, we can exchange it for other knowledge. I'm not a demanding person."

Upon hearing Maggie's words, Boulvin breathed a sigh of relief and immediately handed a magic orb containing stored information to Maggie.

"The knowledge you're looking for is here."

Maggie paused for a moment, then instead of reaching out to take it, she said somewhat apologetically.

"I haven't given you the formula yet."

Burwin waved his hands in front of him, looking somewhat anxious, as if afraid that Maggie wouldn't believe him.

"Her Highness deserves the highest level of hospitality from the tower. How could we not trust you?"

Upon hearing this, Maggie didn't hesitate any longer and took the magic ball. Inside were information about the Demon King Safa, as well as some information about demons.

Maggie wanted to try and find his weakness, or a way to avoid being hunted down.

She wouldn't be suspected of having ulterior motives for wanting this; the temple's targeting of demons is perfectly normal in anyone's eyes.

This is why Maggie was able to make the deal with such confidence.
