"Lilia, you've gone too far."
The man's figure was faintly visible in the darkness, his voice cold yet tinged with helplessness.
“It was Coron who insisted on going with us. It’s not my fault he died.”
Lilia shrugged, feeling neither saddened nor guilty by the man's words. Vampires are inherently cruel creatures; they may have feelings, but most of the time they are just a seasoning, and no vampire would take them seriously.
"But he also saved you."
The man turned around, his eyebrows and eyes deep-set, his eyes red, and his pale skin growing even paler, looking like he was in very bad shape.
"So what? He has so many lovers, not just me. Do you expect me to be grateful for this and end up like him, dragged into the Temple of Light and tortured to death?"
Lilia's face was completely indifferent. She even twirled around leisurely, her skirt, covered in bows, spinning in mid-air, drawing a graceful arc.
“Even the Duke didn’t punish me, so it’s not your place to lecture me.”
She squinted, a hint of danger flashing in her blood-red pupils; clearly, she was only impatient with the man's advice.
"The Holy Maiden has gone to the border, which is not a suitable area for vampires to operate. The hunt for her should be suspended for now."
The man sighed.
"You're such a boring person."
Lilia raised an eyebrow and then used the tip of her parasol to lift the man's chin.
“If you continue to be so willful, the Duke won’t keep spoiling you.”
The man's voice was as steady as a doll's, devoid of emotion.
Lilia looked at his almost dead, expressionless face, chuckled, and with a disinterested expression, spun half a circle before closing her umbrella.
"It's none of your business. I haven't encountered a prey like her in a long time. I must kill her. Only she has made my heart, which has been dormant for so long, beat again."
As she spoke, a bloodthirsty excitement gleamed in her eyes, and the flashing red light seemed to exude the scent of blood.
"I have a feeling that she will keep bothering me for a long time."
Lilia stuck out her bright red tongue and licked her lips, as if she were longing for it.
"Besides... Blood Ancestor is already close to reviving, isn't he? It's one thing that you couldn't stop the Holy Maiden of Light, but you couldn't even stop a Blood Servant Puppet. I think you're the one who will be dealt with by the Duke first."
She took a half step back, looking the man up and down, her eyes filled with a mixture of pity and amusement.
"No need for you to worry."
The man closed his eyes briefly, his tone not very friendly.
"Very well, then I'll give you that same sentence as well, and you won't need to bother with me."
With that, Lilia turned and jumped off the clock tower. In the night, her figure was as light as a feather as she fell rapidly into the city and merged into human society.
The man was left watching in silence, then turned and walked straight down the clock tower.
In reality, the man's body was extremely weak. Not drinking fresh blood for a long time was no different from starvation for a vampire, and his strength would also decrease. Now his strength was less than half of what it used to be.
The man appeared in another unnoticed ancient castle, where a large number of poor people who were rumored to have died or disappeared had gathered. When a little girl saw the man, she immediately ran to him, her face full of worry.
"Sir, are you really not going to drink blood? I can give you some."
The little girl stretched out her slender wrist, showing no fear of the man's sharp teeth.
Upon closer inspection, the little girl's appearance was exactly the same as the daughter of the mother and daughter who had been abducted in the dark alley.
"I'm fine, you all stay here for now and don't go out."
The man shook his head, refusing the little girl's almost pleading words.
"Wait a little longer, I'll find the right person, someone who can protect you."
As soon as he finished speaking, cheers erupted from the castle, probably celebrating the end of their long, dark hiding.
Even if it can only be a hope for now.
"That's wonderful, thank you so much, sir!"
"Thank you so much for saving my life, sir!"
The man remained silent, a suppressed pain lurking deep in his eyes. He had once been human, and now, as one of the most trusted viscounts under the Duke, he had risen through the ranks by stepping over the corpses of humans.
Although he successfully saved many people after gaining his abilities, this could not atone for his sins.
He quietly gripped the cross, which had been blessed by divine magic, as if he hadn't noticed that his hands had been burned and his flesh charred.
This is the gift he is about to give to the saintess: a weapon that can once again suppress the progenitor of vampires.
That's right, he deliberately put the Blood Servant Puppet into Thorn Castle, and he even knew about the curse on Maggie.
He had initially only suspected that the Holy Maiden of Light was under an unusual curse, but the moment he saw her emerge unharmed from the Thorn Castle, he suddenly saw hope.
It was not tainted by the vampire curse, and its body exuded the aura of a living person. It did not look like it would become a blood servant puppet.
This shows that she is special.
This also means that she is someone who can be used, if the Holy Maiden of Light can be used to insert the cross into the Blood Ancestor's heart...
He had once wondered why the Duke was so wary of the Blood Ancestor, even ordering him to monitor him around the clock.
He initially thought the Duke simply didn't want him to wake up, but later, he accidentally witnessed the Duke's curse taking effect, cursing the Blood Ancestor in a frenzied and vicious manner. Only then did he realize that the Duke had betrayed the Blood Ancestor.
He is now just waiting for the progenitor of vampires to awaken again, so that he can pretend to be loyal and lead the progenitor to kill the duke.
He couldn't disobey the Blood Ancestor's orders, but humans could.
He needs the Holy Maiden of Light to use the cross to reseal the Blood Ancestor...
The more the man thought about it, the warmer his icy body felt.
He was forced to become a hateful vampire and then forced to slaughter his former kin. His hatred for vampires had reached its peak, and now he finally had the chance to do what he had always wanted to do.
After enduring humiliation and hardship for so long, he can finally atone for his sins.
The man closed his eyes, his mind filled with the brief time he had spent as a human being.
Meanwhile, Lilia also found a tavern and easily walked in thanks to her superior beauty. Ignoring the various gazes of those around her, she was as alluring as a rose, thorny yet stunning enough to capture everyone's attention.
She straddled the chair with her long, beautiful legs crossed, smiling at her boss.
"He really did hide those humans. Did he really think I wouldn't notice? Am I stupid?"
The boss was an old man over fifty years old who was completely immune to Lilia's beauty. He sat up and shook his head.
"It cannot be spoken, it cannot be spoken."
