At midnight, in the royal palace of the Kingdom of Saint Na, only His Majesty the Emperor's study was still brightly lit. Asa Beard frowned as he looked at the letter that the Zefner family had just delivered to his desk.
The general idea is to 'keep the paladin orders from the Temple of Light out and prevent them from searching or interfering within the country.'
However, the Kingdom of Saint Na is a kingdom under the protection of the temple. If a simple search and investigation is not conducted, and a legitimate reason is not found, and the Holy Knights are not allowed to conduct the search under any pretext, then the relationship between the royal family and the temple will definitely be strained. No matter how you look at it, it is a losing proposition.
However, the Zephnea family's power within the kingdom was enough to threaten the royal family's position. Being caught in the middle in this terrible situation made Asa's hair turn white with worry.
The Beard royal family has always been in a rather awkward position. If it weren't for his efforts to turn the tide and stabilize the royal family's position, the Duke's mansion would probably have already completely taken control of the Kingdom of Saint-Nar.
The royal family couldn't possibly be unaware of the sordid deeds the Duke's mansion was secretly committing, but they were unable to cause any substantial damage to the Duke's mansion.
He could only turn a blind eye.
This might be an opportunity to completely eliminate the threat posed by the Zefnia family to the royal family.
Asa held the letter in his hand, deep in thought.
"They sent me this letter because there might be a conflict of interest between the Duke's mansion and the temple."
The Beard royal family is indeed caught in the middle, but if handled well, it might have a very special effect.
As he was pondering, there was a sudden knock on the door of his study.
Asa snapped out of his thoughts, looked up at the door, and saw a small head peeking into his study. Upon closer inspection, it was his beloved youngest daughter, Eve Beard.
"Father, why have you been sleeping so late lately?"
Eve was very worried about her father. Even though being the emperor was very tiring, she wanted her father to have more time to rest.
So, after midnight today, she saw that the light in her father's study was still on, so she took the initiative to knock on the door and come in.
The royal corridor was dark at night. As a little princess, she shouldn't have been so unruly, but fortunately, Asa doted on Eve enough that even though Eve was so outrageous, he didn't show any sign of being angry.
"It's alright, daughter, I've just been a little busy lately."
Asa shook his head. He usually didn't tell his daughter about matters of state, and this time was no exception.
"Then you shouldn't stay up so late. I don't want my wise and mighty father to die young."
Eve pouted, her cherry-pink lips pursing as she hopped closer to Asa, until she was completely behind him, her little hands massaging her father's shoulders.
Receiving his daughter's concern, Asa's expression softened considerably.
Even the terrible pressure the Zefnia family put on him seemed easier to him now.
"Once the kingdom is stable internally, I will have time to rest."
He looked up and began to close his eyes to rest, but he was still giving Eve a suitable explanation.
Little did Eve know that her two small eyes were not on him at all, but were focused intently on the letter in his hand, the letter from the Zefneria family.
Eve has always had a good memory, and even now, the image of the blood-soaked ground and vampire corpses in the city lord's mansion that day remains vivid in her mind.
Naturally, jotting down this information was a breeze.
Asa was unprepared for his daughter, who had been spoiled since childhood and had little ambition, and naturally did not notice Eve's slightly furrowed brows.
Eve achieved her goal and soon spoke with Asar.
"Alright, alright, since Father doesn't want to sleep, I'll have to go back first."
She seemed very unwilling and a little aggrieved, so Asar could only helplessly rub Eve's head, his voice filled with the unique tenderness of a father for his daughter.
"You're still growing, you should be sleeping a long time ago."
Eve nodded obediently, then turned and left the study.
Asa watched Eve's retreating figure, a look of satisfaction on his face.
He was proud that his youngest daughter, whom he had spoiled since she was a child, had finally matured and was no longer as willful as before, and would even take the initiative to care for him.
We really have to thank the Holy Maiden of Light for bringing Eve back. If it weren't for her guidance, Eve wouldn't be as well-behaved as she is now.
He could clearly sense that Eve had changed a lot since returning from the temple.
To say that the Holy Maiden of Light wasn't involved would be a lie.
This minor incident did not disrupt Asa's work; he turned back to his duties and continued handling government affairs.
Unfortunately, reality was completely different from what Asar had imagined. After leaving the study, Eve ran at a speed that was anything but ladylike. She was like a rocket that couldn't wait to launch, disappearing in a flash on the fifth floor and practically flying back to her room.
Then.....
She then used magic to transmit what she had just seen to Maggie.
This is a magical device that Maggie left for her. It can only transmit a message once, so it should be used at a very critical moment as a way for her to ask Maggie for help.
Eve can be a carefree little princess, but only if nothing happens to the Beard royal family.
The fact that she was able to obtain a magical device equivalent to Maggie's promise means that her relationship with Maggie is quite good.
Now, even someone as oblivious as her could clearly sense the impending storm, which meant that the kingdom was about to undergo a major upheaval.
She didn't know if it was right to deliver the letter to Maggie, but it was the only thing she could do for the kingdom.
"Your Highness, although it is despicable to think this way, I still hope that you can save me from this predicament once again."
Eve clasped her hands together in front of her chest and prayed silently by the window.
Knowing that her own strength was limited and that she could offer little help to the kingdom, she was left with only one option: to ask for help.
Meanwhile, Maggie was somewhat surprised when she received Eve's distress call.
Logically speaking, Eve should be safe under the protection of the royal family. Maggie once told her that this was for saving lives and that it was best not to come to her unless absolutely necessary.
Magical devices that could transmit messages instantly were very expensive, and Maggie didn't have much money at the time.
I left one for Eve because I really cared about her.
I never expected to receive a message from Eve at this time.
Upon activating the magical device, a familiar female voice, unheard for a long time, echoed through the quiet room, her words revealing deep concern.
