Following the road, the two soon arrived at the eastern outskirts, where the Holy Knights were dressed in their finest attire, including even the vice-commander Ferrier.
"Commander, you... oh? Your Highness the Holy Maiden."
As dusk fell, Ferrier glanced up and only saw Harlan's short, golden hair, not noticing that someone else was with him. It wasn't until he got closer that he discovered Maggie's presence.
Hearing Ferrier's somewhat surprised tone, Maggie simply smiled faintly.
"Did I disturb you?"
"Maggie asked softly."
"No, no, Your Highness is too kind to disturb us."
Ferrier immediately looked flattered and hurriedly waved his hand to indicate that he meant no harm.
"I just didn't expect that the commander would say he had something urgent to do, but it turned out he was going to pick you up."
A faint strange look appeared on his face as he spoke, but he quickly concealed it.
"His Highness is very concerned about today's mission."
Harlan subtly intervened in the conversation, protecting Maggie behind him.
"oh oh."
Ferrier met his captain's gaze, scratched his head in confusion, and turned to leave without continuing the conversation with Maggie. At the same time, Maggie keenly noticed a very short cloak among the Blood Hunters.
A smile flickered in Maggie's eyes as she reached out and quietly waved to the little cloak.
"?"
The little figure under the cloak also saw Maggie's movements, tilting her head slightly. The man beside her also saw Maggie, stepped past Gillian, and walked up to Maggie and Harlan.
"It's been a long time, Your Highness."
Jasper was also somewhat surprised, seemingly not expecting Maggie to appear here after being rejected by the priest. However, since they had become friends, the proper etiquette could not be neglected.
It is proper etiquette to go up and say hello.
"You're here too?"
Maggie sounded surprised. When she left the dwarf village, Jasper was still there. How could he have arrived in Santa Fe so quickly? It seemed he had come with Gillian.
"Yes, it's the president's request."
Jasper nodded without saying much, but Maggie understood that Gillian was still too young, and it was probably Jasper who had asked for it, worried that something might happen to her.
"We'll be there tonight to hunt down the vampires."
He nodded in acknowledgment.
"Opportunities to cooperate with the Blood Hunter Guild are rare, and we are extremely honored."
After exchanging pleasantries, Maggie said that the Holy Knights on the other side were ready. With just one order, the eastern suburbs would be wiped out from the inside out.
Only now did Maggie vaguely understand why the temple allowed the chaos in the eastern suburbs to breed the venomous insects.
Places that harbor filth and corruption are perfect for a clean sweep, and the reaping can be unimaginably huge.
Furthermore, if such places are not allowed to exist, the darkness will remain hidden beneath the peaceful facade of Santa Fe City. Now that they are concentrated together, they are easier to deal with.
Like today, actions are highly purposeful and do not disrupt the normal lives of ordinary people.
Maggie still doesn't approve of this approach. Raising Gu is ultimately not a good method. The probability of danger is much higher than not letting it go. Every year, people die here, but they are all outsiders. Even if the temple intervenes to investigate, it usually ends up being forgotten.
No one would complain or protest, because both mercenaries and adventurers were outlaws who had long been prepared to die one day.
The default rules are something everyone is used to.
"The temple has ordered a search for the unauthorized vampires. Please cooperate and do not resist!"
At Ferrier's command, the Paladin Order rushed into the seemingly bustling street, where screams erupted and Maggie's feigned smile faded.
"Your Highness, shall we come together?"
Harlan turned and extended his hand to Maggie in an inviting gesture, his voice ethereal, as if coming from afar yet so close at hand.
"Um."
Maggie concealed the complex emotions in her eyes and finally took Harlen's hand.
The lights in the alley went out one after another, and all the guilty and illicit people fled. Although the search was ostensibly for vampires, they actually caught all sorts of unexpected races.
There were even shadow elves and mermaids that went into the sea.
For some reason, Maggie had the feeling that they were cracking down on pornography and illegal publications.
"The temple hasn't cleaned the eastern suburbs in a long time, so the priest naturally won't refuse the Blood Hunter's offer of cooperation."
Harlan seemed to notice that Maggie was in a bad mood, so he stayed with her and chatted with her from time to time.
"Are we short-handed? Dividing the profits is also a difficult issue."
Maggie asked casually.
If the Blood Hunter Guild comes to help, will they really not offer any reward?
"They didn't want it."
As soon as Harlan finished speaking, the two of them stopped in their tracks, and Maggie's eyes lit up with wariness.
A dark figure darted away and disappeared, and a faint smell of blood seemed to waft through the air. Maggie frowned slightly and simply gave a command to the shadowy figure.
"Perkin, follow them."
With her command, the shadow under the eaves swiftly slid across the wall, chasing after the dark figure.
Whenever Maggie leaves the temple, Perkin will silently follow, always protecting her from a place where no one can detect her.
Even within Santa Fe City.
"If Your Highness's attendants were to chase after him like this, it would put you in danger."
Harun slowly loosened his grip on his sword, his tone carrying an indescribable meaning.
"That guy was very strong; it's a shame he got away."
Maggie didn't care.
"Besides, paladins aren't pushovers either. The Knight Commander will protect me, won't he?"
She looked up, met Harlan's eyes, and smiled slightly.
"Of course, I'd be happy to help."
Harlan was momentarily lost in thought when Maggie put on her dazzling smile, then chuckled softly and bowed to Maggie in response.
The Blood Hunters were darting across the rooftops, and with the Paladins already setting up defenses around the perimeter, no creature could escape the eastern suburbs—it was like catching a turtle in a jar.
Before long, some blood hunters had found their prey, and several vampire corpses were left in the middle of the street. Only Perkin was nowhere to be seen.
Accidents can happen in narrow alleys, so Maggie tries to stay within the protected area as carefully as possible.
What Maggie didn't expect was that the vampire she was hunting actually dared to fight back and even chose to attack her directly.
A flash of cold light appeared on the blade, and Maggie instinctively raised a protective shield. Harun stood in front of her, blocking the attacking vampire.
Maggie looked up and met a pair of bloodshot eyes filled with intense interest.
"Seeing is believing. The Holy Maiden of Light is indeed beautiful. I am Coron, and I have long admired her."
He lightly leaped backward, dodging Harlen's Blade of Punishment, and gave Maggie a wicked smile. Despite his decent appearance, he couldn't hide his greasy aura.
It's basically about a handsome guy who knows he's good-looking, who's making exaggerated facial expressions and showing off.
It caused Maggie discomfort almost instantly.
However, given that he was under such siege, Maggie still admired him for daring to harass her, who was a saint. Her spirit was commendable.
What she didn't see was the flash of murderous intent in Harlan's eyes after hearing the man's flirtatious words.
