Bai Xi spotted the device almost immediately, as did Perkin.
Although the environment was dark, snakes still had pretty good vision.
"Master, let's go over there."
Without hesitation, Perkin changed direction and flew towards the suspected trap.
Bai Xi hummed in agreement, her eyes serious.
In the vast library, a spiral staircase leads upwards, with a massive number of alchemical golems climbing up the stairs, trying to catch up with the two uninvited guests.
But once they jumped onto the platform where the device was located, they were helpless.
They were merely slender, clumsy alchemical golems, without wings or the ability to scale walls, and thus unable to reach this suspended platform.
Bai Xi breathed a sigh of relief after being put down.
Although she chatted easily with Perkin, she was actually very nervous, afraid that the puppets would catch up with them. If they fell, they would have to survive in the dense horde of puppets.
A bunch of steel lumps, even if they survive, it won't do them any good; they'll just end up in a sorry state.
"here it is....."
Bai Xi frowned. There was something that looked like a puzzle game board. Although it was covered with magic gems, it had weathered over time and lost its power.
In other words, not only could they not solve the puzzle board, they didn't even have any pieces.
Without the magic gem, even if the puzzle is solved, there's no way to activate the mechanism.
"what to do....."
Bai Xi subconsciously recalled Ulysses's face. Just now in that room, Ulysses said that he was the one who put those magic gems there.
This means he definitely still has some.
Oh no, I didn't know I needed a magic gem, and I forgot to bring the dog with me.
Bai Xi thought with frustration.
"Master, what's wrong?"
Perkin asked.
"It's okay, I'll observe for a while."
Bai Xi shook her head, not revealing her thoughts. She simply looked up at the starry sky, then at the chessboard, a thoughtful expression on her face.
Although she didn't know why, she subconsciously felt that the arrangement of the stars in the sky was probably directly related to this chessboard.
The answer must be inside.
There's no other way to leave right now, and this device might be of some use for the time being. Although she doesn't have any magic gems in her possession, Bai Xi has already started researching it.
Maybe Ulysses will come out on his own later.
As she thought this, her mind became focused, and she began to concentrate on observing the starry sky.
...
On the other side, Ulysses, who was left alone, was not actually attacked by the alchemical golems. He could transform into a bat and fly around the entire library. He was very agile, and the alchemical golems had no way to deal with him.
Not to mention that after he transformed into a swarm of bats, the alchemical golems, which had only received instructions, lost their target, rendering the pre-set attack system somewhat useless.
This allowed him to escape unharmed.
Although he was alright, he didn't go up with Bai Xi and Perkin. Instead, he started searching along the bookshelves that lined both sides of the spiral staircase.
He had an impression of this place in his vague memory.
Perhaps he came here, and even left something behind.
We should go and look for it.
Ulysses was a man of action; once he had an idea, he would carry it out. As for Bai Xi, he didn't think these alchemical golems would pose much of a threat to her, not to mention that there was a brat with her.
The vast collection of books seemed out of place in this era, but strangely enough, if you randomly picked one, you'd find it contained magic, a technology that only exists today.
Even magic that hasn't appeared yet.
Even if Ulysses is completely unfamiliar with modern magical science, he wouldn't be mistaken.
The magical language used here is more refined and the ideas are more advanced than those of today. It consumes less magic power to cast spells, yet is more powerful.
If the lunatics at Green Tower discovered this theory, they would go absolutely insane, like they were on drugs.
But now they lie quietly in this ruin, in the ancient library that contains a vast number of books.
Now Ulysses was even more curious about this place.
He even slowed down and began to examine the contents.
Until he turned to a book that recorded history.
Pulling the book out, the first title that caught my eye was "Is the Main God of the Post-God Era Returning or Descending?"
A book that is clearly academic in nature, obviously written by the Green Tower, but... the Supreme God? The post-divine era?
An indescribable emotion surged in Ulysses' eyes. He knew that there was likely something beyond his comprehension, even though he thought he knew a great deal.
"The supreme god is... Eros?"
He turned to the first page and immediately caught a word that felt incredibly familiar, as if he had seen it a long time ago, but he had no recollection of it.
Ulysses is now certain that there is something wrong with his memory.
How could someone tamper with his memories? Was it during the time he was sealed away?
Was it the work of that traitor?
What did he do, and what was his purpose?
Ulysses didn't have time to look down. In an instant, a conspiracy flashed through his mind and almost overwhelmed him. Although they were all his people, he had to admit that vampires were very selfish and insidious beings.
He regretted killing the traitor so easily; otherwise, he could have found a way to solve his current problem.
After a long pause, he closed his eyes, accepting the possibility that his memory was faulty, and continued reading.
'In the era of the supreme deity, it is common knowledge that the chief god saved living beings from fire and water, cleansed the abyss, and dispelled darkness. But no one has ever paid attention to one question: what was the chief god's relationship with the seven other deities in the past...?'
This is the first paragraph of the book, and the more Ulysses read it, the deeper his brow furrowed.
I thought it was some kind of academic report at first, but now it looks more and more like some kind of gossip record. And when did this happen? Even if he was out of touch with the outside world during the time he was sealed away, I had never heard of any main god.
Just as he was about to continue reading, a shadowy figure suddenly appeared behind him, walking up behind him with light and somewhat mischievous steps.
She reached out and gently patted his shoulder.
Instantly, Ulysses's blood-red eyes sharpened, filled with killing intent. He quickly turned around and saw Bai Xi, who was dressed in somewhat unusual clothes.
His tense nerves relaxed slightly, but he was still somewhat puzzled.
When did the con artist change her clothes? A ghost actually changed into such a sacred outfit, but it was... indescribably stunning.
But the next second, his nerves tightened again. He had seen the con artist go up there with his own eyes, and now this guy might not be Bai Xi.
What is she?
