However, when the queen saw the royal guards, knights, and mages surrounding her, she stood still and watched them quietly with a calm expression. But if someone observed the queen closely, they would find that her eyes were now lifeless.
For a moment, even the court magicians were at a loss, unsure whether they should go up and arrest the person.
"etc!"
The third prince cried out anxiously when he saw the Holy Knights about to capture the queen.
Arlin's expression changed instantly, and his eyes seemed to say to the Third Prince, "You're more trouble than you're worth."
Maggie simply watched the farce unfold quietly.
“My fine son, today I will offer the old king’s life as a sacrifice to help you ascend the throne.”
After saying this, the Queen turned her gaze to the King, and immediately all the court magicians and royal guards surrounded him, setting up a long cordon.
The third prince's pupils dilated in shock at those words. Before he could even offer a rebuttal, the secretary Grey's sharp voice rang out in the garden.
"The third prince is plotting a rebellion; seize him!"
At a command, the third prince was forced to the ground. The shock on his face had not yet faded, and he did not even understand what had just happened.
"No! This has nothing to do with me! I'm innocent!"
After the third prince realized what was happening, he began to struggle violently, but Gray and the Royal Guards remained unmoved.
"Let's explain to His Majesty after he has regained consciousness, Your Highness the Third Prince."
Grey looked down at the third prince with an extremely cold tone, then turned to give orders to the remaining court magicians.
"Protect His Majesty the Emperor! The Queen must not be allowed near him!"
Gray's orders were swift; as the king's most trusted secretary, he reported only to the king.
No one noticed the faint pity in Maggie's eyes.
Unfortunately, the Dark Puppet Technique could only go this far; her skills were not refined enough to make the Queen actually move and assassinate the Emperor.
However, having drunk so much of her blood last night, it's time to pay the price today.
Maggie thought to herself with a cold laugh, but on the surface, her gentle and holy expression had turned into one full of worry.
She took small steps to the emperor's side, chanted an incantation, and a light shield rose around her, enveloping the emperor.
"The temple will never allow His Majesty the Emperor to be harmed."
Maggie's tone was firm and upright. Surrounded by the aura of a light-based defensive spell, she seemed like a true saint descending to earth, giving everyone present a sense of faith and security.
As soon as Maggie finished speaking, the Queen, who had been motionless, seemed to wake up from a dream. Her eyes went from dull to bright, then wide open, her expression changing from red to white, before finally fixing her gaze on Maggie with burning hatred.
Last night, in addition to tracking magic, Maggie also planted a seed of dark puppetry. After all, controlling a vampire baron was still a bit too much for her. If she were still a magic apprentice, this plan would have been impossible to complete.
The queen underestimated her enemy, giving her an opportunity to exploit the loophole and briefly control her.
Unfortunately, even escaping is now a pipe dream for her. So what if she's a vampire with a title?
Vampires are always afraid of sunlight.
The exorcism ritual was scheduled for noon, and if she stepped out of the pavilion, the sunlight would scorch her skin and cause it to fester.
Where no one could see, Maggie gave the Queen a provocative smile, an act that thoroughly enraged the Queen, who then charged at Maggie without regard for anything else.
Just as expected, her actions completely confirmed her earlier statement that she wanted to 'assassinate the emperor'.
In an instant, all the court magicians went into battle mode, their expressions filled with horror.
Maggie then revealed a resolute expression. The wind blew up her thin saintly robes, revealing her frail figure to everyone.
"As a saintess, I will never back down in the face of evil."
Her voice was neither too loud nor too soft, and her petite and slender figure tightly protected the king behind her. Everyone present, except for Arlin and the third prince, showed admiration for Maggie.
Everyone worshipped Maggie more and more, but the Queen's anger burned.
Maggie sneered inwardly. This queen was even easier to hook than she had imagined. Before she had even fully baited the hook, the queen had already rushed up.
"Fireball! Light Arrow, unleash them all!"
Grey was also startled by the Queen's move, and all the well-trained and coordinated court magicians activated their spells.
Blinded by rage, the queen suddenly broke through the royal guards and was about to shatter the light barrier set up by Maggie.
Maggie and the Queen's eyes met, and they both saw their own reflections in each other's eyes.
Maggie raised an eyebrow and curled her lips into a slight smile, her expression filled with mockery and boundless malice. She was completely unrelated to the saintess; she was as vicious as a cold, damp serpent, even more terrifying than the vampire queen.
'It's time to set off, my dear Queen.'
Maggie grinned and silently mouthed the words.
At the same time, fireballs and arrows of light rained down behind the Queen. Maggie took a few steps back and led the King out of the court magician's attack range.
Vampires are suppressed by sunlight, but they can't move as nimbly as she does.
The Queen was distracted by Maggie and failed to dodge the attack, taking the brunt of the magic. The sound of roasting meat filled Maggie's ears, making her teeth ache, but she found it incredibly pleasant.
Instead of the aroma of roasted meat, what followed was the smell of decay and decay. Vampires are not living people, but more like the embers of a life force that has been burned away. Now that they are burning again, it is only disgusting.
"ah!"
The Queen's face, contorted with pain, was right in front of Maggie.
Maggie swiftly and decisively unleashed a beam of light, catching the queen completely off guard and piercing her heart. There was no chanting or casting animation, leaving the queen utterly unable to react.
In a crowded and chaotic situation, no one would notice this.
The queen, the only one who could recognize Maggie's special qualities, never had the chance to speak again.
When facing an enemy, it's best not to say too much; sometimes, it's best not to say anything at all.
Villains die from talking too much, and Maggie has always known this principle.
"Forehead...."
The queen looked at her chest in disbelief, spitting out dark red blood. She seemed unable to understand why Maggie, a magic apprentice, could kill her, a vampire baron.
Or perhaps they were surprised that Maggie released the magic without chanting a spell.
Maggie stepped gracefully out of the protective light barrier, the sunlight warming her skin. Her smile grew even more radiant and serene, and her gaze as she looked down at the Queen held a hint of pity, as if she were grieving the loss of life.
"Rest in peace, Your Majesty."
She lifted her skirt and squatted down, meeting the Queen's eyes, which were gradually dimming, and seemed to still hold hatred for her.
Maggie closed her eyes indifferently and began to pray for the Queen in a low voice.
"May the Lord guide your soul, so that it may no longer be trapped in darkness."
She murmured something, her voice clear and pure, as if it had the power to purify people's hearts.
As Maggie made her prayer, the others in the garden also abandoned their fighting stances and stood silently watching the scene unfold before them.
Maggie stood up and chuckled to herself.
She was so kind; she even prayed for the souls of her enemies to rest in peace.
However, as a saintess, she naturally had to maintain appearances, and the fact that vampires had no souls was completely unimportant.
What is honey to one is poison to another; it's better to be human.
As she quietly sighed, she slowly stood up and looked up to see Gray running up to her and bowing respectfully.
"Thank you for your help, Holy Maiden."
Actually, Maggie didn't do anything special, except deliver the final blow to the Queen, but Grey was still extremely grateful.
Mages are physically weak, and almost no one can withstand a vampire's attack; they can only attack from a distance.
Most of the royal guards were intermediate swordsmen, and some were advanced swordsmen. Theoretically, they could have defended against the queen, who was merely a vampire baron, but she suddenly broke through their defenses. If the king had been injured, they would have been held responsible.
So Grey was very grateful to Maggie.
"His Majesty the Emperor will recover soon. It was my misjudgment; I never imagined it was the vampire causing the trouble."
A faint look of apology appeared on Maggie's face.
"I apologize for the exorcism ritual. It consumed a lot of manpower and resources but was not used. Thank you for your help."
She apologized softly, but as she spoke, she could clearly feel the gaze behind her, as if trying to bore a hole through her.
"It's not your fault!"
Gray waved his hands repeatedly, his expression filled with guilt.
Of course he would feel guilty, after all...
She wasn't consulted about setting up the magic array, was she?
Gray received the order directly from Arlin. Maggie's words were a deliberate reminder to Gray, "You're only in trouble because you don't respect me and blindly follow the High Priest's words."
As Grey and Maggie had expected, Grey's expression grew increasingly apologetic.
"Thanks to Her Highness, His Majesty is safe and sound."
Maggie shook her head, showing consideration and generosity.
“Secretary, there’s no need for that. These are simply the duties of the Holy Maiden.”
Suddenly, Maggie felt a cold gaze fall on her. Following her intuition, she looked up at the top floor of the royal castle, but there was nothing there.
Everything seemed as if nothing had happened, like her illusion.
