Lord Greta adjusted the black lace hat on her head, a cryptic smile playing on her lips behind her fan, and spoke softly to Maggie.
"They've all gone to hunt monsters. I think Your Highness might be getting bored. Shall we go for a walk by the river?"
Her gaze swept over the rushing water, a dark glint flashing in her eyes.
"Of course I will not refuse Lord Greta's invitation."
Maggie smiled and nodded, then started walking towards the riverbank. The river was very clear in this era, and small fish could occasionally be seen swimming in it.
She looked up and followed the direction of the river. The water flowed into the depths of the dense forest, making her wonder if there were any terrifying creatures lurking there.
"Is Your Highness very curious about what's inside?"
Greta's eyes darkened when she saw Maggie turn around, but she still asked with a charming smile.
"Of course I'm curious. Perhaps there are even more fascinating creatures besides monsters."
Whether Maggie agreed or not, the smile that curled at the corner of her mouth was equally enigmatic.
Greta's smile faded considerably in an instant. Although the two were strolling along the riverbank, her gaze repeatedly and subtly swept over Maggie, as if searching for an opportunity.
"Does Her Highness refer to a mermaid?"
She brought it up seemingly casually.
"Perhaps it's some other creature?"
Maggie knew she was testing her, but revealing a little information to her might just accelerate the process.
After all, a Holy Maiden of Light who carries the 'Blood of the Night' and has some interest in Thorn Castle should be considered a considerable threat to vampires.
Greta must be worried no matter what, right?
They lured her here using the Demon Hunting Competition. She was walking along the riverbank, completely unsuspecting, and at that time, the forces protecting her were at their weakest.
Isn't now the perfect time to take action?
With that thought in mind, Maggie walked ahead without any guard, completely exposing her back to Greta.
"Your Highness is joking."
Greta was right behind her, very close, but Maggie seemed completely unaware of it.
"Maybe I'm not joking."
The moment Maggie finished speaking, everything went blurry before her eyes.
The next second, two figures fell into the Lös River, splashing up a lot of water. The current was fast enough that the two were swept away in the blink of an eye, without even giving the paladin time to react.
"Her Highness has fallen into the water! Quick, save her!"
"We need to get downstream, let's hurry!"
The paladins and nuns who remained behind were in an uproar, their eyes filled with undisguised terror. After realizing what was happening, they all quickly ran towards the direction of the water.
On the other side, although Maggie fell into the water, she was prepared and held her breath. However, the current was too strong, and she could not control her body. She could only let her body be swept away.
only.....
No matter the season, the river water is so cold that it makes your limbs numb.
Especially in the flowing water, her body began to stiffen, and the long-lost chill enveloped her once again.
As for Lady Greta beside her, as a vampire, she doesn't even have the most basic life force, let alone the ability to breathe. She naturally has an advantage over Maggie in the water.
Maggie closed her eyes, pretending to be unconscious, but in reality, she was fully focused on feeling her approach.
The red light flashing in her eyes was no longer concealed. She reached out towards Maggie's neck, wanting to tear off the prism stabilizer containing the 'Blood of the Night'.
Greta's target from the beginning was 'Night Blood', and she probably didn't want to kill her. After all, if the Holy Maiden of Light died on her territory, the temple would turn against her.
Unfortunately, Maggie didn't have this concern.
The next second, she opened her eyes and met Greta's gaze.
"!"
Greta was startled and stopped moving, thus failing to grab the prism stabilizer.
Maggie could sense the shock in her eyes; she seemed to have never imagined that a human like herself could remain conscious after being swept so far by the water.
Taking advantage of this moment, Maggie, whose face was pale from being soaked in water, suddenly smiled and grabbed Greta with her other hand.
Immediately, his entire body surged with magical power, and he activated the Star-level magic, Phantom Tear.
Before Greta's incredulous eyes, all her clothes were torn to shreds by dark magic in that instant, and she was swept away by the water to some unknown place.
Maggie's original intention was not to directly harm her. Being able to become the city lord meant she was at least on the same level as the queen, and Maggie couldn't possibly defeat her.
But all vampires have the same weakness.
Maggie smiled at her, unable to make a sound underwater, and could only speak to her using lip reading.
'Miss Vampire, underestimating your opponent can lead to death.'
Sunlight pierced through the water's surface and fell on Greta, instantly causing the water to boil beneath the surface. Even though she was in the water, Maggie seemed to be able to smell the decaying, rotten odor, as if a dried corpse that had been dead for countless years had suddenly been set ablaze.
Crimson blood stained the riverbed. The skin that Maggie was holding was not yet ulcerated, but the surrounding area was so rotten that the white bone was almost visible. Yet Maggie still did not choose to let go.
Greta screamed silently, but she couldn't change the situation.
She couldn't use magic in the water, and the sunlight outside would only be more blinding, hastening her death.
She never expected that Maggie could cast spells without chanting and could use dark magic. She was not a lamb to be slaughtered at all, but a hunter who would only show her fangs at the crucial moment.
Maggie stared at Greta, whose other, relatively unharmed hand was covered in sharp nails, which she swung straight at Maggie's face. Maggie couldn't dodge in time and was torn open, the blood spreading in the water.
She looked at Greta, who was so distorted that she could hardly recognize her human form, and could feel the skin under her hands beginning to burn and rot. She felt a physiological nausea rising in her stomach, but she still did not let go.
The main concern is that if this person is swept away and enters the dense forest, and then manages to survive under the shade of a tree, then there will be another enemy.
Maggie couldn't rest easy until she saw her die completely.
Every time Maggie sees the protagonist or villain let their formidable foe escape due to carelessness, she gets so angry that she beats her chest and stamps her feet. This time it's her turn, so naturally she has to put it into practice.
What Maggie didn't know was that her blood, mixed with Greta's, was spreading through the river.
Besides attracting the fish, the smell of blood also drew another agile and swift figure, which moved freely in the rushing river, tumbling in the water, and quickly approached Maggie's direction.
Seeing Greta die completely from the sunlight, Maggie breathed a sigh of relief. However, she was not good at swimming and had only managed to keep breathing by casting spells without chanting.
Her body could only be swept downstream by the current, and her skirt was torn to shreds by the pebbles. She could only wait to be brought back and, if she was lucky, get stuck on a big rock and climb out.
However, as Maggie was pondering, she suddenly sensed an unusually dangerous aura approaching her.
