Ignoring the various gazes, Maggie focused all her attention on her surroundings, as she needed to anticipate the directions from which Lilia might attack.
Before long, Charles was ready. Maggie climbed to the edge of the city wall and looked down at the horde of monsters below. The group of crazed, scarlet eyes immediately noticed her presence and began to roar like madmen, ramming against the barrier.
The sky was filled with countless black shadows and red lights, and a group of flying monsters covered the barrier, making it look extremely eerie.
Like a swarm of bats in the night, they were trying to tear apart the barrier.
It was as if they knew that what truly prevented them from entering the city was her.
If we can kill her completely, breaking through the border city will become a piece of cake.
"It's a sad thing that they're not intelligent and yet have some meager intelligence."
Maggie sighed, and suddenly her wings of light unfurled, propelling her towards the outside of the city walls and into the sky.
Seeing Maggie's actions, the monsters outside attacked even more fiercely, while also emitting terrifying and disgusting cries that made people feel physically uncomfortable.
Maggie also frowned almost imperceptibly.
Holy Light Flight is only a Star-level spell. Although it can simulate flight with wings and allow you to stay in mid-air, it is extremely slow and is mostly only useful for... showing off.
That's right, it's a spell that has little practical use and is basically no different from special effects. It only makes the people in the temple seem more holy and more convincing.
But this was just right for Maggie. She wasn't in a hurry, and she needed to give Lilia enough confidence so that she could go on stage, right?
Maggie flew through the air, a gentle breeze brushing her cheeks, gazing at the lush, green forest in the distance, feeling relaxed and content.
It was as if she had transformed into an angel on vacation, coming down to the mortal realm to admire the beauty of the world.
But from a third-person perspective, it's clear how terrifying Maggie's situation is. On the city wall, almost everyone is holding their breath, watching this process where one wrong step could lead to utter destruction.
The Holy Maiden of Light, with holy wings sprouting from her back, transformed into the sun in the air, guiding people out of their confusion. She hovered there, radiating a soft and holy light, her hands clasped together in devout prayer.
Below, however, was a scene of monsters tearing each other apart, a bloody and hellish mess.
The contrast was so striking that it resembled an ironic painting.
Maggie was still approaching the pre-set position. She appeared calm on the surface, but in reality, her whole body was tense and on high alert.
Now is the perfect time to attack, and she needs to be on high alert to guard against Lilia's sudden sneak attack.
Once you survive Lilia's first attack, Lilia will have no chance of surviving.
A murderous intent flashed in Maggie's eyes, completely at odds with her appearance.
To her surprise, Lilia remained motionless even after they reached the designated coordinates, seemingly having no intention of continuing their attack.
Maggie didn't believe Lilia would give up, and she quietly began using magic to mark the high-level monsters below.
The mages of the border city, having fought for a long time, were all highly trained. The moment they saw Maggie raise her hand, they immediately received the signal to attack.
This magic possesses a unique toughness and resilience. Although it consumes a lot of magic power, it is very suitable for attacking high-level monsters and can easily pierce their flesh.
However, if the monster's weakness is not determined, these spells can only be used to harm them, but cannot be used to kill them.
Now that Maggie is helping to mark weaknesses, the effect is naturally doubled.
In just a few moments, five intelligent monsters were reduced to ashes on the spot.
Maggie didn't stop. Every second she spent in the air was precious and dangerous. If it weren't for the fear of wasting time, she should have killed these monsters herself instead of simply marking them.
She and the mages worked together exceptionally well, and the number of high-level monsters decreased at a rate almost visible to the naked eye, causing the beast tide's attack to become chaotic.
Without the command of intelligent monsters, low-level monsters are like headless flies; although they remain ferocious, they have no unified target for attack.
This instantly reduced the defensive pressure on the swordsmen and paladins, and even tore a gap in the beast tide.
This was a shocking scene unlike any previous beast tide, and all of this stemmed from the Holy Maiden above, who seemed like a guardian angel.
After the pressure lessened, many people looked at the figure in the sky with awe and worship. At this moment, their faith was not in the ethereal God of Light, but in the real Holy Maiden of Light who was protecting them.
Just when everything was going smoothly, like a fairy tale, a dark figure shot through the barrier like a cannonball and rushed toward Maggie's location.
Charles, who had been standing on the city wall and was just breathing a sigh of relief, suddenly felt his pupils shrink and his heart skip a beat when he saw the dark figure rushing towards Maggie.
He reached out towards Maggie with a look of terror on his face. Before he could even utter a warning, Maggie collided with the shadowy figure, and the two figures plummeted towards the horde of monsters below.
Although most of the monsters had just been cleared out, in Maggie's current state, charging straight into the monster horde would be tantamount to suicide.
This scene caused everyone present to gape slightly, even forgetting to defend against the monster's attack, their gazes all fixed on the two falling figures.
With a loud 'bang,' the two figures landed simultaneously, creating a huge crater in the ground. The surrounding monsters were also annihilated and turned into dust.
Dust billowed up, obscuring the view inside. Even the monsters, for some reason, dared not approach the massive crater they had created. Time seemed to stand still.
Even without the monsters' bites, at such a height, the Holy Maiden of Light, being a physically weak mage, would never be able to withstand such a speed as being slammed to the ground.
Charles's legs went weak, and he knelt on the ground, his expression blank and bewildered, his eyes fixed on the large pit where the dust had not yet settled, his heart yearning to see a miracle.
Even though everyone knew that the people inside the pit were likely doomed.
A white figure suddenly emerged from the paladin team that was leading the fight against the monsters, resolutely breaking out of the barrier and attempting to approach the large pit surrounded by monsters.
He was like a god of death, and no monster could stop him along the way. His snow-white knight's uniform was stained, but his eyes were only on the people at the bottom of the pit.
On the other side, the shadow that had been guarding the city wall was also sliding rapidly across the ground, its serpentine form passing through the monster horde and approaching the large pit.
He didn't care about revealing his identity as a member of the Dark faction; he just wanted to confirm Maggie's safety as soon as possible.
