Perkin received Maggie's order and quickly led his men away from the palace. The air was quiet, and no one dared to speak.
Everyone knows how serious the situation is. If the Holy Maiden of Light hadn't happened to close the teleportation array here, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Lin bit her lip hard.
She seemed to know what her fate would be, especially after Maggie mentioned the words 'Bone Lord,' her pupils visibly trembled.
In the end, she didn't wait for Perkin to return with his men, and rushed towards Maggie like a madwoman.
As a mage bound by the Ring of Restraint, she was unable to use magic and could only resort to this primitive method to seek revenge.
Unfortunately, she can't use magic, but Maggie can.
In front of others, Maggie put on a little show, spending some time chanting a spell, until Lin rushed to within half a meter of her before firing a light arrow that pierced through her thigh and pinned her to the ground.
Blood splattered out instantly, almost splashing onto her saintess robes.
Like her brother, she doesn't even have eyes for blood.
Maggie thought casually.
"I'm sorry, Your Highness!"
The palace attendants, realizing what had happened, rushed to Lin's side in a panic, dragged her back, and kept bowing and apologizing to Maggie.
Putting aside Maggie's status as the Holy Maiden of Light, even considering her status as the savior of the Holy Kingdom, disturbing her is absolutely unacceptable.
"Don't worry about it, it's her fault."
Maggie gently shook her head and reached out to help the palace attendant to his feet.
Her holy and benevolent appearance stunned the servant for a moment. It took him a while to recover before he withdrew with a face full of gratitude.
"Thank you, Your Highness."
Maggie knows best how to use her advantages. Although she looks a bit disheveled now, that's precisely why she's so gentle with people, even though she's injured and in pain. That's exactly the image of a saint that people have in mind.
Even if she was faking it.
The Motley family's residence was not far from the royal palace, and given the capital's fury, Perkin quickly returned with his men.
The palace staff stepped forward and began to report immediately.
"We discovered traces of the Bone Lord's activities, and even traces of vampires in the basement of the Motley mansion."
The court magician spoke in a serious tone, and instantly everyone in the hall turned to look at Lin, while the emperor's face also darkened.
"Do you have anything else to explain now?"
Lin's face turned completely ashen. She could no longer care about the pain in her legs, because she was about to be sent to the guillotine.
The head of the Motley family beside her was still begging for mercy, but with such a serious crime, the emperor could not help but be angry. He waved his hand and gave a cold order.
"The Motley family has colluded with the dead; their crimes are unforgivable and they shall be beheaded!"
Immediately, all members of the Motley family were dragged away, and cries for mercy echoed throughout the castle.
Some of them participated in the conspiracy with the dead, while others did not, but unfortunately, no one cares.
Maggie simply watched them being dragged away, and the moment her eyes met Lin's, she slightly curled the corners of her lips.
Her curves were so gentle that no one could sense the slightest malice from her.
But only Lin would break down on the spot after seeing it.
Then, her desperate and frantic screams echoed through the castle.
"The saintess is the devil! She's a demon, she doesn't deserve to be a saintess! This is all her conspiracy! Don't believe her!"
"She did it on purpose! You have to think about it, how could a mid-level mage like her possibly destroy the Bone Lord's teleportation array? This was all part of her plan!"
Lin did think at the last moment, but unfortunately her voice gradually faded away, and no one paid attention to what she was saying, simply thinking she was crazy.
After all, the power of the Temple of Light was still too awe-inspiring, and they didn't know if the God of Light might have left behind something very powerful, which was now on the Holy Maiden.
The Holy Maiden is the face of the Temple of Light, so naturally she has many magical items that can save her life.
Maggie calmly withdrew her gaze.
Lin is right, but so what?
No one questioned her; she remained the highly respected Holy Maiden of Light, while Motley Lynn was already dead.
"Your Majesty, the castle walls were damaged by me because of the suddenness of the situation. Should we...?"
Maggie looked up at the emperor, her tone somewhat troubled.
The master of ceremonies beside the emperor stepped forward promptly and answered respectfully.
"No need. Her Highness sacrificed herself to shut down the necromancer teleportation array, which is already a great favor. How could we allow Her Highness to compensate us?"
The emperor also spoke.
"The Holy Maiden can make any requests she has, and we will provide whatever the Beard royal family has."
Maggie pondered for a moment, then remembered that Xiu's potion hadn't been found yet, so she decided to take this opportunity to bring it up.
"Since Your Majesty says so, if there are any ethereal potions in the palace, just send two bottles."
His Majesty the Emperor was taken aback, clearly not expecting Maggie to make such a simple request—just two bottles of magic potions. How could that compare to the grace of saving the country?
"Of course, but this cannot be considered a reward."
After saying that, he noticed that Maggie wasn't feeling well, so he waved his hand considerately.
"The Holy Maiden must be exhausted today. She can go back and rest for now. We can discuss the reward later when everything is completely resolved."
Maggie nodded; this suited her perfectly, and she was tired anyway.
"Thank you, Your Majesty. I'll be heading back now."
Maggie turned and left, and the Holy Knights followed her out of the castle hall, with Nesser and Perkin on either side of her.
The remaining cleanup work will take some time, but she should be able to return to the temple soon.
On the way back, we should find a weapon for Perkin. If we had that dagger, Perkin wouldn't have been chased so relentlessly that we couldn't find her for so long.
Maggie seemed lost in thought.
...
Maggie never expected that her beloved father would still come to see her amidst such chaos in the palace.
Maggie was somewhat surprised when she saw the Duke in the reception room.
"Father, what do you want to see me about?"
Maggie gracefully straightened her skirt and sat down, displaying a ladylike demeanor that somewhat resembled the original owner of the body.
She was a well-educated noblewoman.
"You did a great job on this."
The Duke looked at her with a satisfied expression.
"Thank you for the compliment, Father."
Maggie gave a forced smile.
She was almost losing control; the veins on her forehead were about to bulge. She really wanted to know why this old man was so confident.
“Now I acknowledge your value. For the past few days, I’ve only thought you were throwing a tantrum. Now that you’ve had enough, you are still a member of the Duke’s household, and you are my daughter.”
The Duke, unaware of Maggie's inner turmoil, continued speaking to himself.
