Chapter 274: The story of the vines actually being cat tails

As Maggie arrived at the Elf Mother Tree, Harlanthal followed. The two stood beneath the towering branches of the Mother Tree, looking up at the top of the tree.

Upon closer inspection, Maggie discovered that the tree was indeed in worse condition than before; the bubbles encasing the green liquid had dwindled to a pitifully small number, with only a few remaining.

Even if the tree doesn't die, it probably won't be able to allow the underage elves to complete their coming-of-age ceremony.

Not to mention that deep within its trunk, pitch-black cracks have appeared, resembling the black cracks on Harlanther's body, with black mist occasionally emanating from them.

Maggie thought for a moment and suddenly didn't want Harlanser to stand there watching her cleanse herself of the pollution, because it would be unsightly to have black smoke coming out of her head later, and she had her pride too.

She looks like she's been roasted, which is really weird.

Maggie turned around and looked at Harlanser, who was staring at her with his big, bright eyes, and suddenly didn't know what to say.

It's already dangerous for her, an outsider, to get close to the Mother Tree of Elves. It's going too far to prevent her from watching over it.

Finally, she abandoned her previous idea and reached out to touch the trunk of the Fairy Mother Tree again.

It's amazing how difficult it was for her to ascend the elven altar in the mortal world, yet now she can personally touch this tree that represents the life source of the entire elven race.

Maggie's mind was racing with countless thoughts. At the same time, the life force inside the Elf Mother Tree surged into Maggie's body, along with the corrupting power.

As soon as she received the magic, she began to separate the contamination from it, and then... black smoke began to billow from the top of Maggie's head.

It was no longer a gas, but a thick black smoke that drifted heavily in the air. If any fresh plants were to come into contact with the black smoke, they would wither on the spot.

Harlanser watched the whole scene unfold, and in fact, he had already grasped some of the meaning on the way there.

Maggie clearly absorbed the power of the pollution, but she didn't seem to be affected.

Then she said she had found a solution, which left only one very bold possibility.

The corrupting power had no effect on Maggie.

That's why he didn't stop Maggie's actions after he came over.

As it turned out, he was right; the black pollution was actually expelled from Maggie's body and did not harm her.

Such power is practically indistinguishable from that of a god.

Even someone with divine status like him couldn't do it.

Harlanser admired him from the bottom of his heart.

As the corrupting power within the Elf Mother Tree was stripped away, the erosion it was suffering gradually began to weaken.

Although the trunk and branches cannot fully recover in the short term, the overall color has gradually changed from grayish-black to a healthy emerald green.

The blackness in the crack disappeared, revealing a faint green light.

The Elf Mother Tree was being healed at a visible speed, and it seemed to be without any side effects.

After Maggie carefully examined the power flowing inside the Elf Mother Tree and confirmed that there was no trace of contamination left, she withdrew her hand with satisfaction.

She could even vaguely sense the emotional fluctuations of the Elf Mother Tree.

That hazy consciousness seemed to be saying to her, 'Thank you for saving me.'

When Maggie opened her eyes again, she saw a giant tree that, though broken, had been revitalized.

She not only proved her hypothesis correct, but also helped save the entire Elf race.

This realization made Maggie very satisfied.

But the next second, a strange expression suddenly appeared on her face, because she thought of something.

Could it be that... the abnormality the Mother Tree exhibited in the future, and its extraordinary reactions to her, were because she had saved the tree in the present?

"..."

Maggie's previously pleasant mood suddenly became extremely complicated.

I can't say whether I'm happy or unhappy.

Because that feeling of being manipulated had returned, everything she was doing now seemed predetermined, not from her own will.

It felt like there was a pair of hands pushing her from behind, urging her to do these things.

This is the second time that Maggie has developed deep doubts about her time travel and everything that is happening now.

But the fact that she saved the Mother Tree of Elves wasn't a bad thing, and it didn't make her feel too much regret.

Even if she knew beforehand that it was pre-arranged, she would still choose to do it.

Thinking of this, Maggie felt a strange throbbing pain in her head, so she gently rubbed her temples to relieve the discomfort.

With insufficient clues, she cannot determine whether the hand behind her is a person or a ghost, or even something conscious. She can only helplessly piece together and speculate.

Harlanthal, who witnessed the entire spectacle, nervously approached Maggie when he saw her separated from the Elven Mother Tree and looking unwell.

Are you alright?

He asked cautiously, his worry evident on his face.

Even if it doesn't seem to affect Maggie, the fact that she made that move means she's uncomfortable.

This person is now a great benefactor of the Elven race, so it's no wonder they are so grateful.

"I didn't..."

Maggie was about to wave her hand to indicate to Harlanthal that she was alright when the elf stretched out his vines, gently touched her temple, and released a green light.

Would this be better?

Harlanser's eyes showed concern.

It looks like a healing spell, but unfortunately it's useless to Maggie right now.

"As you can see, pollution has no effect on me, so magic has no effect on me either."

Maggie smiled and gently pulled off Harlansel's vines.

but......

She held the soft vine branches in her hand; they felt smooth and slightly cool to the touch, and a strange feeling inexplicably rose in her heart.

Because the vine and the forest god are in sync, they can be manipulated, but not entirely controlled by their master.

Like a cat's tail, these vines sometimes act according to their own whims.

For example, it might ignore its owner's wishes, actively befriend people its owner likes, or secretly attack people its owner dislikes.

For example...

In the fanfiction she was reading, these vines played a role that even Maggie found terrifying.

Of course, it was out of fear that another person would be killed in bed by the Forest God.

Although Haransel appears to be a pure and upright elf, he possesses the ability to manipulate 'tentacle vines'.

These vines can even secrete sap and mucus...

This resulted in Maggie always being able to sense an indescribable sense of otherness in Harlancer.

So you can't blame Maggie for always reading random fanfiction; the premise is just too lewd!
