Chapter 156 Nesser's Little Thoughts

Quietly, a massacre was secretly averted by Maggie and the Blood Hunter working together. The bonfire party in the village continued, and no one was aware that a life-or-death struggle had just taken place outside.

When Maggie returned to the square in the center of the village, a dwarf boy happened to see her. He immediately picked up a bottle of fruit wine and ran to Maggie.

At the same time, Nesser, seeing people return, also ran towards Maggie.

Unfortunately, Nesser was too late, and the dwarf boy beat him to it.

The little boy looked up at Maggie with bright, adoring eyes, and raised his glass to her, wanting her to share in the joy of the bonfire party that evening.

Maggie was always very tolerant of children, so without hesitation, she accepted the fruit wine and patted the little dwarf boy's head, just like she would pat Nesser.

Nesser stood not far away, staring blankly at the scene. He himself was unaware that his fingertips were clenched so tightly that they turned white, and he was unconsciously biting his lip hard.

Only when Maggie's gaze shifted from the little boy and landed on Nesser's direction did he composed himself, revealing a sweet smile, and start running towards Maggie again.

"Sister, you're finally back. I was so worried about you."

Nesser hugged Maggie's waist, his tone tinged with a hint of grievance and complaint, his soft whimpers softening everyone's heart.

"I'm fine. I told you the plan in advance, why are you still so worried?"

Maggie was afraid that Nesser would run off and disrupt their plans, so she told him about today's events early on and told him to wait for her to return obediently in the center of the village.

I didn't expect that even after going this far, Nesser still seemed very insecure.

Nesser didn't move, burying his head in Maggie's waist and rubbing against her, refusing to look up no matter what.

"good."

Maggie patted his shoulder, soothingly stroking his fur in an extremely gentle tone.

After a while, Nesser raised his little face to look at Maggie. His nose and eyes were red, like a wronged kitten. His light red eyes were also watery, making people feel sorry for him.

Even his lips were a rosy red, which made his skin appear even whiter.

The elves are all handsome men and beautiful women, but Nesser's appearance is breathtakingly beautiful even among elves. Otherwise, Maggie wouldn't have been so immediately fond of him at first sight.

"Nesser wants to protect her sister forever."

He mumbled something, almost like a dream, so Maggie couldn't quite hear him for a moment.

Just as Maggie was about to continue coaxing Nesser, the village chief's loud voice came from the other side of the campfire, and almost the entire village could hear it.

"Your Highness, come over here. It's not easy for such an important person to come to the village, so we must treat him well."

Hearty laughter filled the air, and Maggie could only smile helplessly as she pulled Nesser toward them.

"Alright, have fun tonight. Elves don't have these kinds of rituals."

Maggie and Nesser held hands, without a trace of ambiguity, like an older sister leading her younger brother. The holy and beautiful older sister and the stunningly beautiful elven younger brother were a very pleasing sight to behold.

[I can't let Nesser worry about my safety every day. Kids just need to be happy. It's all my fault for being so busy; I need to spend more time with him and pay attention to his mental health.]

She muttered to herself as she walked.

[Children who are separated from their parents for too long will grow up to be spoiled if they lack love. It would be a real sin if I were to lead such a cute Nesser astray.]

Nesser unconsciously tightened his grip on Maggie's hand, a hint of tension appearing in his expression. His little face was slightly furrowed, and it was unclear what he was thinking.

At that time, Maggie was talking with the village chief, discussing how to enhance the staff.

"Jasper just told me that, in the end, we really have to thank Her Highness the Holy Maiden for the safety of the village. It's just a staff reforging, which is not a difficult task for an old man like me."

The village chief waved his arm, revealing a thick, muscular arm. His short, stocky build made him particularly suited to be a blacksmith, as he could swing an iron hammer of extraordinary weight.

Maggie was somewhat surprised.

Jasper's efficiency is astounding! I just came back from the village entrance, and the village chief already knows about it.

However, she thought Jasper would keep it a secret from the villagers.

In the end, the village chief was informed.

Nesser tilted his head and watched Maggie and the village chief talk, his big eyes full of curiosity, as if he really wanted to understand what they were discussing.

Thank you.

Maggie nodded solemnly. Although dwarves don't live as long as elves, they are still a relatively long-lived race compared to humans. Judging from the length of the village chief's beard, he is definitely an old man.

Respecting the elderly and caring for the young is an instinct ingrained in her bones.

Although the person in front of me is an old man, I'm not sure I'll outlive him. The thought is heartbreaking.

Maggie sighed inwardly.

At the same time, Nesser blinked, looked at the two holding hands, and fell into deep thought.

No one knew that he had already set his sights on the things in the Green Forest.

The longevity of elves is not solely determined by their race; there are exceptions.

The Forest God, unable to bear seeing his people suffer so much because their partners had such short lifespans, allowed the Elf Mother Tree to bear fruit that could prolong life.

However, this method can only be used on the mates of elves. Humans who have not been recognized by the Mother Tree of Elves cannot extend their lifespan even if they obtain the fruit.

Moreover, the fruit can only be eaten in the Green Forest; it will lose its effectiveness once you leave.

"I heard that Your Highness is preparing to depart tomorrow. After the bonfire party ends, you should go back and rest early."

The village chief looked like a rough and gruff man, but he was actually surprisingly thoughtful. Hearing this, Maggie felt a warm current flow through her heart.

The village chief is a good man. It's fortunate he came this way; he has a chance to save the village.

Although Maggie made the deal with Jasper, if she were alone in this situation, she would probably still choose to intervene.

Although kindness is a burden to me now, I still... humans are truly a complicated species.

As she was thinking this, she unconsciously glanced at Nesser beside her, and their eyes met.

Nesser immediately gave Maggie a sweet smile, like a cream cake in summer, snow-white and soft, just looking at it makes you feel good.

"elder sister!"

His clear, sweet voice calling her name was incredibly soothing.

[As expected, I definitely would have regretted not saving Nesser! But Nesser is just too adorable.]

Maggie was completely satisfied; her hesitation and melancholy vanished instantly. Nesser was the best reward for her kindness.
