Why are you looking so down?
Ficklin stared blankly at the vibrant Maggie before him, who was now waving her hand with a radiant smile, trying to rouse him from his thoughts of running away from home.
"...Actually, it's nothing, it's just that my friend Heilong's pet rabbit died."
He lowered his eyes and spoke in a strange tone.
"What could this be? Are you sick?"
Immediately, Maggie looked worried and took two steps forward to sit down beside him.
"It was eaten by bad guys."
Ficklin felt the warmth of his body as he approached, and his body trembled slightly. Finally, he could not suppress the desire in his heart and turned to look at Maggie's face.
It's exactly the same as I remember; it hasn't changed at all.
It's not exactly... a fragmented mess.
"How could that be? Your friend is so incompetent; he failed to protect her at all."
Maggie looked a little angry and seemed to be complaining about her friend.
"Yes, I think so too. How could we not have protected her?"
Ficklin chuckled self-deprecatingly, his tone tinged with an indescribable melancholy.
Maggie, however, didn't understand what he meant at all. She simply reached out and patted his back, comforting him in a reassuring tone.
"There's nothing we can do about it. It's possible your friend was negligent... He certainly didn't want this to happen either. You should go back and comfort him."
Maggie seemed a little reluctant, and even her voice softened considerably.
"Hmm... but I think the little rabbit probably won't forgive my friend."
Fickling stared blankly at Maggie's face, his voice filled with deep sorrow.
"No, no, rabbits are all stupid. It only thinks that your black dragon friend gave it food. It likes your friend. It won't remember sad things or death."
Maggie, seemingly oblivious to his sadness, spoke in a playful tone, using a more palatable approach.
"Um....."
Ficklin pursed his lips, looking at Maggie with a bittersweet feeling, but still quietly agreed.
"Oh dear, there's more than one rabbit. You can always get another one. Anyway, tell him not to be sad."
Maggie seemed to finally see Ficklin's sadness. She sighed and patted Ficklin's head.
"No... there won't be a second rabbit."
Fickling heard his own answer.
The next second, the sounds around him grew fainter and fainter, and the girl's face gradually blurred before his eyes, until... he suddenly opened his eyes.
The stones above the cave were dusty and had a rustic feel to them. To the left, the sky was beginning to brighten; the sun hadn't risen yet, but it was already dawn.
Ficklin sat up, rubbed his throbbing temples, muttered something for a while, and then slowly stood up.
"It's already dawn... Looks like I really slept for a long time."
Even after he straightened up, there was still a sense of bewilderment in his eyes. The dream in his mind was so clear, and he remembered every word of his conversation with Maggie in the dream.
He had been back in Dragon Valley for almost two years, and this was the first time he had dreamed of Maggie in all that time.
And then there were the things she said...
Perhaps she wanted to tell him that he should let go of some things, but he just hadn't.
Ficklin's lips curled into a self-deprecating smile, and he suddenly spread the wings on his back. Many times, things that he couldn't understand could be temporarily forgotten after flying around once or twice.
The enormous wind dragon flew out of the cave, and the giant dragons flying around in the sky also saw its figure.
"Ficklin, are you going to the chieftain's again today?"
Someone called out to Ficklin from a distance.
Although Ficklin was seen as a destructive dragon by other races and by humans, he was actually well-liked. He only appeared in Santa Fe City alone because he was poisoned.
Otherwise, he probably wouldn't have left Dragon Valley by now.
This is ultimately the most suitable place for dragons to live.
"Yes! If there's anything you want to tell the clan leader, you can say it now."
Ficklin snapped out of his thoughts and spoke to the dragon that was calling out to him.
"It's nothing. I just want to leave Dragon Valley in a while. I'm dating a human girl, and we haven't seen each other for a long time. I'm afraid she'll miss me."
The young dragon was somewhat shy, but he still stated his request.
Fickling has always been well-liked, making him the most suitable person to deliver such a message.
"Alright, alright, you little brat, you've made me fill in again and bear the brunt of the clan chief's anger. Just wait until next time, I'll empty your wallet."
He didn't refuse and was still joking with the dragon.
"Of course, no problem. What's mine is yours."
Having said that, the young dragon left Dragon Valley, leaving Ficklin staring blankly in the direction he had gone for a long time before turning around and continuing on his way.
Before long, he landed beside the most important altar in Dragon Valley, where the dragon god, the God of the Sky, was enshrined in the center.
"You need to work even harder in your cultivation recently. Only you can resonate with the gods. For the sake of the dragon race, you cannot give up."
The clan chief spoke in a serious tone.
"good."
Fickling was no longer the type to cause trouble when he was unhappy, so he simply responded calmly to the request.
"Report! Chieftain, there seems to be news about the ruins you've been searching for."
Just then, a panting voice came from behind Ficklin, filled with a strong sense of joy.
"What? Where is it?!"
Upon hearing this news, the Dragon Clan Chief's breathing became rapid, as if he had discovered something extraordinary.
"It was Green Shade Tower that first received the news on the Eastern Continent, but they didn't seem to know the truth about the ruins, treating it as just an ordinary undead ruin."
"But we need to get going as soon as possible, otherwise we definitely won't be able to outcompete them."
The messenger who came to deliver the message also seemed very anxious, as if the ruins were very important to the dragons. Even Ficklin, who was not interested in anything, listened intently for a while.
“Ficklin, since you’re here, perfect, this task is yours.”
Just as he was listening intently to the 'story,' he was suddenly called out by Leng Buting.
Ficklin was a little confused, while the chieftain continued to ramble on.
“Listen, if nothing unexpected happens, the ruins over there are related to history before the beginning of the era, involving the earliest dragon ancestors. If we can retrieve the remains of our ancestors, our gods can return completely.”
The clan chief spoke, his voice brimming with barely concealed excitement.
"Hmm... okay."
Ficklin really wanted to refuse; he didn't want to leave Dragon Valley anytime soon, whether it was for healing or to recover.
In short, I don't want to think about sad things anymore.
But seeing the clan chief's expression that said, "If you don't agree, I'll eat you," he reluctantly agreed.
