Chapter 327 The Angel's Blessing

Following the normal baptism and blessing procedure, the Duchess knelt before the statue of the God of Light, while Father Barton, dressed in a uniquely styled blessing robe, stood in front of her.

Some of the water from the fountain in front of us sprayed onto the ground, while some splashed into the air, reflecting a rainbow of colors in the sunlight.

The words of prayer and blessing from priests and nuns filled the air, accompanied by the melodious chorus of children singing hymns throughout the cathedral.

Everything was so peaceful, tranquil, and beautiful.

But to the Duke, it was so glaring that a subtle, yet unmistakably evil smile curled at the corner of his lips.

Maggie witnessed this entire scene.

Just when Maggie thought the Duke's little scheme was doomed to fail, a peculiar fluctuation suddenly surged from the Duchess who was receiving the blessing, and for a moment the expression on Maggie's face stiffened.

Logically, the demon within the Duchess should have been removed, so how could this be...?

Maggie almost lost control of herself, and a sudden urge to take the Duchess away nearly welled up inside her.

Did El break his promise?

Maggie was uncertain, but no matter how anxious she was, she couldn't show too much emotion right now. To put it bluntly, if all else failed and she couldn't protect the Duchess, all she could do was protect herself.

Upon seeing this, the Duke's eyes immediately lit up with a look of smugness.

He even gave Maggie a look that said, "You're useless."

Maggie pursed her lips, trying her best to maintain a smile, but only those who knew her well could tell that she was indeed a little nervous.

Father Barton seemed to sense something as well. He had been praying with his eyes closed, but suddenly opened them. His gaze did not immediately fall on the Duchess, but instead fell on the sky directly in front of the statue.

Maggie's gaze followed closely behind, trying to determine what it was.

She even regretted not having made contingency plans; she should have had a Plan B or even a Plan C, so she could still ask the Demon King for help.

But the next second, the Duke's smug expression froze on his face.

Of course, there was everyone else present besides him, including Maggie.

Because what appeared before them was not a demon, but... an angel.

Or it was the real Archangel—El himself.

However, only Maggie could recognize him as El, because for some reason he was wearing a half-mask that covered his eyes and upper face, leaving only his lips and chin visible.

Even so, Maggie was still quite certain that the angel in front of her was El.

This was a completely unplanned show, and Maggie never expected that El would personally show up to testify on her behalf.

Maggie's mind raced with thoughts, and only a few seconds passed before El personally blessed the Duchess. A pure white feather fell and landed right in the Duchess's hand.

The other piece ended up in Maggie's hands.

In full view of everyone, it even alarmed the Pope.

In a secluded place, the Pope's gaze was fixed intently on El, his usually calm eyes now filled with an intense, almost manic, desire.

Also present were Archbishop Ford and High Priest Arlin, who had been watching the play.

Maggie even saw that Father Barton's hands were trembling, but he quickly regained his composure.

All the nuns, priests, clergy, and even paladins knelt before the angel. Some of them had such a frighteningly devout look in their eyes and expressions that even Maggie couldn't bring herself to kneel down with them.

And in his mind, he was frantically cursing what kind of crazy things El was doing.

After this incident, she was unable to perform the scenes she had prepared.

The Duke's face was almost ashen; this was completely unexpected, not even within his consideration, and even beyond Maggie's expectations, resulting in this scene that was entirely beyond his imagination.

Others may not know how long it has been since the God of Light performed a miracle, but the higher-ups of the Temple of Light certainly do.

Not to mention the God of Light himself, his retinue had not appeared for a long time either. Now, a living angelic messenger was showing his full form before everyone, blessing a noblewoman.

This is truly shocking news.

The angel's descent was so grand that the entire city of Santa Fe was bathed in his radiance, and for a moment the whole city fell into silence, with everyone visibly kneeling and worshipping in the direction of the temple.

A long time passed, but no more angel feathers fell; only Maggie and the Duchess received them.

By the time El disappeared, Maggie felt her legs were about to go numb from kneeling.

What she now hates most is not only these ridiculous medieval rules, but also El's behavior of not following the rules and agreements.

Maggie felt a surge of anger, but when she looked up and saw how everyone was looking at the Duchess, she suddenly felt relieved.

Maybe this isn't so bad.

Without resorting to intrigue or harming the Duke, or causing his mother grief, the Duchess could be kept at the temple.

After all... the old men around her certainly wouldn't let go of the Duchess's special qualities.

She couldn't ignore the subtle, covetous glances around her; perhaps Maggie was just too sensitive to stares. Her feelings were indescribably complicated.

Whether it's an angel's feather or something else.

Even if Maggie doesn't speak up now, the temple will take the initiative to keep the Duchess.

But this is hard to say whether it's a good thing or a bad thing. "A common man is innocent, but possessing a treasure is a crime." This time, the Duchess really needs her protection in the temple.

The archangel is so thoughtful, always creating trouble for her.

As for Maggie herself?

She never considered her own situation. Anyway, she was burdened with debts, and she had been targeted for a long time. She was used to it.

The Duke realized that things wouldn't go as he'd imagined, but in such a sacred setting, he couldn't just walk away in a huff. His face was ashen, like he'd eaten shit.

However, he soon seemed to have thought of something, his gaze frequently sweeping over Maggie and the Duchess, revealing a thoughtful expression.

Maggie saw it too, of course, and was just short of sneering.

Old Biden is starting to get all sorts of nonsense again. If I'm not mistaken, he's probably planning to do something bad under the guise of an angel.

Maggie, however, would not do as he wished. Once he left, she planned to issue a public announcement removing the Duke from the list of dukes and make it known to all.

Thinking about it, she unconsciously squeezed the feather in her hand.

She then realized that she had overlooked something; she had been so focused on the Duke and Duchess that she had almost forgotten about El.

Maggie looked at the feather in her hand, staring at it secretly for a while, but found nothing suspicious or special.

Just as Maggie was about to give up, a slightly familiar male voice suddenly echoed in her mind.

"Miss Saint, are you satisfied with today's cooperation?"
