"What would you like me to address, Commander Knight?"
Maggie's mind raced, but she maintained a polite and courteous smile, revealing no flaws. Her voice was so steady that it sounded like she was discussing business, not just chatting.
Perhaps Maggie's behavior was too cold and unapproachable, because Harlan's smile froze for a moment before he could find his voice again.
"Since Your Highness is unwilling, I cannot force you."
Harlan took a half step back, retreating to a safe distance. His eyes were slightly lowered, and his voice seemed to carry a sense of loss, yet also as if he had simply said something indifferent. Maggie felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
The holy and upright paladin commander was in her sight, but she couldn't see the emotions in his eyes. Strangely, Maggie could vaguely sense an indescribable melancholy emanating from the person in front of her.
Even the moonlight seemed to freeze at that moment because of his sorrow.
Harlan hadn't done anything, but Maggie seemed bewitched. At least for that moment, she put aside her suspicions and gently opened her lips to the man.
"No, no, I'm not unwilling, Harun."
Her voice wasn't very loud; it was even partially muffled by the rustling of leaves in the wind, and you definitely wouldn't hear it unless you listened carefully.
Harlan paused slightly, as if stunned, and looked up at Maggie, who was turning her head to the side, pursing her lips, and looking somewhat uncomfortable.
"good."
His previously downturned lips suddenly curved into a much wider smile, and even his affectionate peach blossom eyes, which seemed to gaze at the dog with such tenderness, were filled with gentleness. His response seemed to drift on the wind to Maggie's ear.
It made my ears feel hot for no reason.
Maggie heard Harlan's reply, but she simply turned around and hurried back to the treehouse, leaving Harlan with only a disheveled back view.
She is actually not good at building close relationships. Those she categorizes as friends or people she can get close to are generally not a threat to her and cannot affect her.
Whether it's Perkin, Nesser, Ficklin, or even Eve, Maggie sees them all as harmless, or even completely harmless.
But Maggie is inherently averse to people like Harlan, who pose a clear safety risk to her, and subconsciously assumes the worst about them.
But just a moment ago, Maggie felt like she was going crazy.
Because she actually thought that Harlan was non-threatening and could be a friend, she was bewitched and called out Harlan's name.
The result was that her logic became inconsistent, leading to an emotional conflict. She feared that if she stayed with Harlem for even a second longer, more unpredictable and uncontrollable situations would arise.
They could only flee in panic.
Maggie hid in the treehouse, not wanting to see Harlan again.
He was still left behind, but this time Harlen didn't show the same expression as before. Instead, he put his index finger to his lips and looked in the direction Maggie had left.
After an unknown amount of time, the clouds obscured the moon. The knight commander chuckled softly, his joy overflowing like sweet honey, even the air itself seemed to carry a sweet scent.
...
Perhaps due to Maggie's special circumstances, the elven elders did not come to Maggie to offer a suitable solution during the remaining four days of the Forest Ridge battle.
Maggie was happy to have some peace and quiet. Since she already had the gold leaf, they would definitely be too embarrassed to ask her for it back.
As for the Forest Spirit Sacred Fruit, she could give it to them if they wanted, but she couldn't force them to take it if they didn't, since it was their territory and she had brought too few people.
Cough cough, that's just a thought, she's not that cruel.
The friendship between the main Elven race is also quite important, so Maggie needs to leave herself a way out.
She was just bothered by some trivial matters.
For example, starting that night, the probability of Harlen appearing around her suddenly increased, as if no matter where she went, this man could always appear in her field of vision.
It looked like a chance encounter.
At first, Maggie thought it was a coincidence, but after a few times, Maggie noticed that Harlen seemed to particularly want her to call him by his name. If she called him "Knight Commander," Harlen would show an expression as if he was hurt.
Since she herself had said "I have no reluctance" that night, she had no choice but to bite the bullet and change her mind.
A few days later, she got used to calling him that and it wasn't as awkward as it had been at first, but Maggie still really wanted to know why Harlan did it.
Is the intention to get her used to it, so that when she returns to the temple she will make a mistake, continue to call him by his name, violate the temple's rules, and be punished by the priest?
Maggie was secretly depressed for several days, but she couldn't figure out why, so she could only assume for the time being that he had lost his mind.
For example, Nesser seems to have become more clingy since she grew up. Now she appears wherever she goes, and she and Harun, who is frequently refreshed, occasionally exchange sarcastic remarks, which is quite inexplicable.
Maggie wondered, since the two of them had no conflict of interest and had not spent much time together, how could their relationship suddenly become so bad?
She remembered that the God of Light had very high emotional intelligence, and the relationship between the God of Forest and the God of Light was quite good. Could it be... that she missed some important content in the comic?
Nesser's clinginess can be attributed to her volatile emotions and insecurity, but what about Harlen?
Maggie's frustration is doubled.
Time flies, and the battle for the Forest Spirits soon came to its final day. Even if the Elven high-ranking officials had their own agendas, they couldn't very well leave Maggie out of such an important ceremony.
"Honored guest, a seat has been prepared for you over in the square, would you like it?"
The elf who delivered the message looked somewhat familiar; he seemed to be the elven mage who had smoothed things over during the conflict that day. His expression was a little awkward and embarrassed.
"I see."
Maggie nodded. It was the same situation again. It seemed the elves were about to cause trouble.
Seeing such an expression on the messenger's face always evokes a sense of inexplicable familiarity.
However, she would deal with whatever came her way. Maggie just didn't want to cause trouble, but it wasn't that she couldn't handle it. She really wanted to see who dared to mess with her.
Maggie straightened her skirt and walked towards the Elf Square. Compared to last time, she received significantly more attention this time.
The whispers were also very noticeable.
It wouldn't be accurate to call it malicious, but it certainly wasn't well-intentioned; at the very least, it made Maggie quite uncomfortable.
Maggie remained unfazed and walked straight to the seat prepared for her. The people sitting around her were all elderly elves, while she alone had an unusually youthful face, looking somewhat childish.
But she showed no sign of timidity; her calm and composed demeanor was that of a seasoned leader. Having served as the Holy Maiden of Light for so long, she had more than enough control over this matter.
