Chapter 206 I Have Money

Chapter 206 I Have Money

The nurses immediately sprang into action, pushing the hospital bed into the treatment room.

Pei Yu was about to follow him inside when he stopped in his tracks.

He glanced back at Xie Chi and Meng Chao behind him, then at the closed door of the treatment room, and whispered to an older head nurse beside him.

"Sister Liu, could you please help her first, give her fluids, and stabilize her vital signs? I... I need to go and talk to the patient's family first."

He was referring to Ji Wanqing's mother, of course.

He wanted to hide it, but with Ji Wanqing like this, he was afraid he couldn't hide it anyway, otherwise she would be even more worried, which would not be good for her health.

The task of informing Ji's mother undoubtedly fell to him, the doctor and someone who knew the truth.

Xie Chi snorted coldly, seemingly wanting to say something, but looking at Pei Yu's equally solemn and tired profile, and thinking that Ji's mother must still be worried in the ward, he swallowed his words and just irritably ran his fingers through his hair.

Meng Chao stepped forward. He was tall and imposing, and even though he was injured, his presence was still very strong. He spoke.

"Go and comfort Auntie, leave this to us."

Pei Yu gave them a deep look, nodded, and turned to walk quickly toward the inpatient department.

Inside the treatment room, a nurse carefully cleaned the wound on Ji Wanqing's wrist, which had been chafed by the rough rope, with a cotton ball soaked in saline solution.

The wound was quite large, with the skin turned outwards and blood seeping out, making it a shocking sight. Fortunately, it did not damage the tendons or major blood vessels, so it did not require sutures, but it needed careful cleaning to prevent infection.

The cold touch and the irritation of the disinfectant brought Ji Wanqing back to her senses. She winced in pain and gasped for breath.

"Just bear with it, it'll be over soon," the nurse comforted softly, her movements becoming even gentler.

As Ji Wanqing looked at the bright operating lights overhead, smelled the familiar scent of disinfectant, and listened to the faint sounds of deep conversation coming from outside the door, a real sense of security slowly returned to her body.

The glucose injection flowed into the vein, gradually dispelling the feeling of exhaustion in the body.

She was truly saved.

The atmosphere outside the venue was far from pleasant.

Xie Chi leaned against the opposite wall with his arms crossed, his gaze occasionally sweeping across the door of the treatment room, and then coldly glancing at Meng Chao, who was also leaning against the wall next to him.

"Aren't you going to get your hand treated?" Xie Chi rarely spoke first, his voice still cold, his gaze fixed on Meng Chao's simply bandaged arm.

Upon hearing this, Meng Chao raised his arm and glanced at it casually, then shook his hand indifferently. The movement aggravated his wound, causing him to frown slightly, but his tone remained nonchalant.

"He won't die, it's just a small cut. We'll talk about it after we make sure Qingtian is alright."

Xie Chi didn't reply, but instead turned his gaze back to the door of the treatment room.

After a while, Meng Chao couldn't help but speak again, his voice lowered and filled with inquiry.

"Hey, the finish line, the island, him and Sunny Day..."

He didn't finish his sentence, but his meaning was clear: he wanted to know what the situation was between the three of them.

Xie Chi's gaze instantly turned even colder as he swept it towards Meng Chao.

"It's none of your business."

His tone was far from friendly, and he clearly didn't want to discuss the topic.

Meng Chao felt a surge of anger rising within him from his gaze, but remembering that this was not the time to argue, he forced himself to suppress it, merely snorted through his nose, and turned his head away, refusing to look at him again.

Just then, Pei Yu returned from the direction of the inpatient department. His face looked even more tired than before, but his eyes remained calm.

He walked to the door of the treatment room, glanced through the small window in the door at Ji Wanqing who was receiving an IV drip inside, and then turned to the two people waiting outside.

"There's nothing seriously wrong with Auntie. We'll have her come over to check on things after Qingtian has rested a bit."

Pei Yu briefly explained the situation to Ji's mother. He did not mention the details of the kidnapping, only saying that it was an accident and that he was feeling unwell and needed to be observed and treated in the emergency room. He told her not to worry.

After a while, the door to the treatment room opened, and a nurse pushed Ji Wanqing out.

Her wrist was wrapped in a clean white bandage. Although her face was still pale, her lips had regained some color, and her eyes were clearer.

Seeing the three men standing outside the door, she moved her lips, wanting to say something, but for a moment she didn't know how to start, her feelings were complicated and hard to describe.

"How are you feeling? Are you still uncomfortable?" Pei Yu stepped forward immediately, bent down and asked softly, his tone gentle and concerned like a doctor's. He naturally reached out to feel the temperature on her forehead.

Ji Wanqing shook her head gently, her voice still a little hoarse and weak.

"I feel much better, but I still have no strength... Thank you, Brother Pei."

"You need to stay in the hospital for observation overnight to replenish your energy and electrolytes," Pei Yu said, gesturing for the nurse to push the bed to the private room that had already been arranged.

Xie Chi stepped forward, his gaze falling on Ji Wanqing's bandaged wrist and her still pale face. A fleeting, almost imperceptible pity flashed in his eyes, but his tone remained the same, only slightly softer.

Are you hungry? Or would you like some water first?

He guessed that the kidnappers hadn't given her any food either, as her lips were chapped.

Ji Wanqing looked at him, her heart filled with mixed emotions as she recalled how he had appeared like a demon in the warehouse. She whispered.

"...I'm a little thirsty and would like to have some porridge."

Her voice was very soft and sounded weak.

Meng Chao immediately came over, but tried to soften his gaze as he looked at Ji Wanqing.

"Thirsty? Hungry? I'll go make it right away. What kind of porridge would you like? Century egg and lean pork, or vegetables and mushrooms?"

He spoke urgently, as if he were about to rush out to buy it.

Seeing the obvious injury on Meng Chao's arm, Ji Wanqing asked softly with concern, "Brother Meng Chao, your injury...should we get it treated first?"

Meng Chao looked down at his arm, grinned nonchalantly, revealing a set of white teeth that contrasted sharply with his slightly disheveled appearance.

"It's just a minor injury, take care of yourself first." His concern was direct and warm, and he raised an eyebrow slightly. "So, what do you want to eat?"

Ji Wanqing felt a warmth in her heart and said softly, "Vegetable and mushroom porridge is fine, thank you, Brother Meng Chao."

"Okay! Wait!" Meng Chao seemed to have received the most important order and turned to leave.

"Wait a minute." Pei Yu called out to him, taking his wallet out of his pocket. "Here you go."

His movements were natural, as if he were Ji Wanqing's family member and Meng Chao was just an unfamiliar friend. As a family member, he couldn't let her friend suffer a loss.

Meng Chao paused, turned around to look at the money Pei Yu handed him, and his brows immediately furrowed.

"What do you mean? I need you to pay for something I just want to buy for Qingtian?"

His tone was harsh, clearly showing his displeasure.

Pei Yu remained calm and said, "That's not what I meant, it's just..."

“There’s nothing wrong with that!” Meng Chao interrupted him directly. “I have money! I don’t need it!”

After saying that, he didn't give Pei Yu a chance to speak again and strode away.

Pei Yu paused in mid-air with the money in his hand, then withdrew it without changing his expression, revealing no emotion.

Xie Chi watched coldly from the sidelines, a mocking smile playing on his lips, but he said nothing.

Ji Wanqing felt utterly exhausted watching this scene.

She closed her eyes, rubbed her temples, and her face showed obvious fatigue and helplessness.

She was grateful for the kindness these three men showed her, but the invisible rivalry and tension between them forced her nerves, which had just relaxed, to tighten again.

Pei Yu immediately noticed her discomfort and said softly.

"If you're tired, take a nap. I'll stay here and keep an eye on you."

He spoke to Ji Wanqing in a gentle tone, but his gaze was calmly fixed on Xie Chi, carrying a silent declaration.

Here, he is a doctor, and he has the most legitimate reason and the most appropriate status to stay.

Xie Chi met his gaze, their eyes met in mid-air, and he gave a cold laugh.

Not only did he not intend to leave, but he also pulled up a chair and sat on the other side of the hospital bed, his posture relaxed yet exuding a strong presence, clearly indicating that he wouldn't leave either.
