Chapter 17 Thanks to Kuroko
Everything happened in an instant. By the time Ji Wanqing came to her senses, she was already being shielded behind her.
She could only see the man's back; he was tall and broad-shouldered, completely shielding her.
"Where did this bastard come from!" The man opposite him cursed, rubbing his wrist.
"I've already notified the nearest police station. Are you sure you want to continue causing trouble?"
Meng Chao spoke casually, a nonchalant smile playing on his lips, and raised an eyebrow at the group of people.
"You little brat!" He dared to ruin his plans, so he grabbed the bottle and tried to smash it, but his companions pulled him back.
"Forget it, let's not cause any more trouble." This man had clearly drunk less. He glanced coldly at Meng Chao and whispered a reminder, "This is the young master of the Meng family."
Seeing their actions, Meng Chao didn't bother to argue any further and led Ji Wanqing outside.
Ji Wanqing was completely bewildered and let him lead her around.
She looked up at his profile; his features were sharp and cold, but his demeanor was somewhat carefree and unruly.
Just then, a group of people at the next table suddenly stood up and stopped him, "Where are you going, Brother Chao? Didn't you say you were going for a late-night snack?"
Meng Chao stopped in his tracks. "I have something to take care of. You guys eat, just put it on my tab."
The person immediately stepped aside, giving him an "I understand" look, and said, "Then you can go ahead and get busy."
Meng Chao held Ji Wanqing's hand and walked to a quiet spot outside the store before letting go of her wrist.
Ji Wanqing immediately hugged Qiuqiu tightly with both hands, "Thank you."
Meng Chao leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, looking at her with a half-smile.
"It's almost midnight and you still came out to see these people. You're really brave."
For some reason, Ji Wanqing didn't think he was a bad person; perhaps it was because he had just helped her out of a predicament.
She looked down at the ball in her arms. "I'm here to get my dog."
She sighed, then looked up at him seriously again. "Anyway, thank you for standing up for me just now."
The shop was bustling with activity, but no one helped her.
Meng Chao reached out and ruffled the dog's head. "You're so cute. What's your name?"
"Qiuqiu." Ji Wanqing finally smiled and generously let him pet her.
But Qiuqiu seemed startled and barked at him twice.
Meng Chao put a finger to his lips and shushed him, "Don't bark."
The moment those two words appeared, Ji Wanqing paused, involuntarily thinking of the guy in the live stream.
Seeing her lost in thought, Meng Chao asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Ji Wanqing couldn't help but chuckle. "It's nothing, I was just thinking about someone."
Meng Chao immediately realized, so she was thinking of him?
He suddenly felt a little happy, and the corners of his mouth turned up.
"It's too late, it's not safe. Shall I take you home?"
"This...isn't that a bit inappropriate?" Ji Wanqing hesitated. "Isn't your friend waiting for you to have a late-night snack? Besides, I live quite far from here, I'll have to take a taxi..."
"It's on my way." After saying that, he turned and left. "My car is parked right next to me. Wait for me on the side of the road."
Ji Wanqing stared at his retreating figure speechlessly. Did he even know where she lived? It was just on his way.
She decided to take a taxi back, but she wanted to say goodbye to him before leaving, since he had just helped her.
She carried the ball to the side of the road, and a black Maserati pulled up in front of her shortly afterward.
She could tell this person was wealthy; even his simple casual clothes were designer brands, but she never expected him to be this rich.
Meng Chao rolled down the car window. "Get in?"
"I'd better not trouble you. I was just about to tell you that I'd take a taxi home myself." Ji Wanqing held the puppy without moving.
Meng Chao lowered his head slightly and chuckled softly, "Do I look like a bad guy?"
Feeling a little embarrassed after her thoughts were exposed, Ji Wanqing genuinely didn't want to trouble him, but she was also afraid that he might be a bad person.
Meng Chao didn't care much; it's good to be a little wary.
He took out his phone, displayed a QR code, and stuck it out the window. "Let's add each other on WeChat. I'll watch you get on the bus. Message me if you need anything."
The request wasn't unreasonable, so Ji Wanqing breathed a sigh of relief and took out her phone to scan it.
"Your profile picture is a golden retriever."
"Yes, my dog." Seeing that he had finished scanning, Meng Chao put away his phone, got out of the car, and hailed a taxi for her.
He silently noted down the license plate number and stood there watching the car drive away.
Meng Chao didn't get back into the car until the taxi had completely disappeared from sight.
Meng Chao [Meng Chao]
Meng Chao [What is your name?]
Ji Wanqing: Thank you for today, Ji Wanqing.
Meng Chao: [Send a message when you get home.]
Ji Wanqing: [Okay.]
Ji Wanqing clicked into his WeChat Moments and took a look; it was all about bars and yachts.
I never expected that this spoiled young master would have such a righteous side. Moreover, he saw through her thoughts but didn't get angry or embarrass her. He's a cultured person.
She continued scrolling down and saw the large golden retriever. Its coat was very well maintained, and it had a gentle and honest temperament, completely different from its owner.
Ji Wanqing silently liked the post on Jinmao's WeChat Moments, then put her phone back.
Having resolved two major issues, she finally had a chance to catch her breath after months of tension.
She sent Meng Chao a message to let him know she was safe when she got home, then took a shower. Suddenly, she felt a bit more energetic, opened the Boiling Point platform and studied it for a while, discovering that she could also post updates.
She took a picture of Qiuqiu and posted it online with the caption: "Thank you for your company."
Within minutes, dozens of comments were received.
Don't bark. [Dogs are like their owners; they're all adorable.]
A simple and unpretentious wealthy woman: [Oh, you also have a dog? How cute!]
[Agreed! Don't bark, dogs are just as cute as their owners!]
[Next time, let the dog show its face too.]
Ji Wanqing was replying to a few of the messages when a message suddenly popped up on her WeChat.
Kiyono [Sleeping?]
Ji Wanqing was a little embarrassed after being caught.
[I feel refreshed after a shower. I just did some research, what do you think of the Starsea guild?]
[It's pretty good, no major scandals, but many contracts are different, so I'll have to wait and see.]
Xinghai is the guild that Miao Buer mentioned, the number one guild on Boiling Point.
Seeing Kiyono's message, she had a better understanding of the situation.
Okay, I'll show it to you before I sign it.
It's 2 AM, are we not going to stream tomorrow?
I can't get up that early, it'll probably be afternoon.
Breakfast time is too early for her to get up, so her mother usually goes downstairs for a walk and buys it herself. She can only come back to start her live broadcast after checking on her mother at noon.
Then go to bed early, or you'll get dark circles under your eyes.
[Okay, okay, you worrying wild god!]
She also sent it along with a cute emoji.
Duan Ye looked at that sentence, wondering what the other person was thinking.
Is this happiness or unhappiness?
He sighed and didn't reply to the message.
Ji Wanqing didn't think much about it, but instead focused on making money. She opened a shopping app and bought a high-definition webcam, deciding to just show her face from now on.
The next day, Ji Wanqing went to see her mother and immediately returned to start broadcasting. The newly purchased camera hadn't arrived yet, so she turned on the camera using her phone.
As soon as the show started, many familiar faces came in.
Good morning, wife.
[The streamer actually showed their face today!]
Ji Wanqing had a bright smile on her face. "I've decided to show my face from now on. It'll be a good opportunity to show my hands too, so that I won't have any more haters coming to bother me."
Well done! I love how cool you are!
[Thanks to the haters, I'm living a good life now.]
Ji Wanqing chatted with everyone for a while before finally opening the order-taking backend for the game companion service.
Zhou Xubai, who was looking for popular live streamers for his new project, accidentally stumbled upon Ji Wanqing's live stream and stared at the screen in disbelief.
Ji Wanqing? Why would she come here to be a companion?
