Zhang Xiuyuan was more inclined to believe that they were in the same group. If that was the case, not only he and Xiao Baozi would be in danger, but his wife might be in greater danger than him.
I don’t know how she is doing now.
If she found out that he and the little bun were missing, she would probably go crazy.
Zhang Xiuyuan tried to open the door, but found it was locked from the outside. He had no martial arts skills and was carrying a child with him, so he couldn't get out.
He looked around the room. There seemed to be a study here with a desk with pen, ink, paper and inkstone on it. There was also a bookcase next to it and paintings hanging on the wall.
He kept a stern face and carefully observed everything in the study, occasionally flipping through it, trying to find out the information of the owner of the study.
However, no information about the owner of the study could be found in the desk drawers or bookcases.
He inadvertently glanced at the two landscape paintings hanging on the wall, and suddenly noticed a slightly raised corner of one of the paintings.
He got closer and looked at it from that angle and found that the landscape painting had two layers.
Zhang Xiuyuan pondered for a moment, temporarily placed the little bun on the chaise longue, and tore off the first layer of the landscape painting with his hands.
Sure enough, after tearing off the first layer of landscape painting, the inner layer of painting was revealed.
When he saw the painting on the inner layer, Zhang Xiuyuan's pupils suddenly constricted and he was horrified.
It was a portrait of a person. The portrait seemed to have been cut by a sharp weapon, leaving hideous scratches. If Zhang Xiuyuan was not too familiar with the face in the portrait, he would hardly be able to recognize it.
The portrait was of his wife, Zhao Chuchu.
Zhang Xiuyuan could easily guess what kind of resentful mentality that person had as he used a sharp weapon to cut the portrait in pieces.
Zhang Xiuyuan took two steps back and it took him a while to calm down.
He set his eyes on another portrait, hesitated for a moment, and finally tore off the outermost layer of the painting with trembling hands.
The inner layer was still a portrait, without any scratches, and well preserved, and that portrait was of him.
Zhang Xiuyuan looked back and forth at the two paintings on the wall, trying to guess the man's thoughts.
He was sure that the man must have known both him and Zhao Chuchu, and had ill intentions towards Zhao Chuchu.
Who is that person?
Thinking that there was such a person beside him and Zhao Chuchu, he felt a chill all over his body.
The sky gradually darkened, and there was silence all around. The light that had been able to come in through the crack in the door completely disappeared.
Zhang Xiuyuan found a candle in the study and lit it.
The little bun started crying because he was hungry.
"Is anyone there? Please get us something to eat." Zhang Xiuyuan knocked on the door and shouted. If he was alone, he wouldn't care, but he couldn't bear to let the little bun go hungry.
Since the little bun was born, he has never been hungry.
Just after he had been slapping for a while, he keenly heard footsteps outside. Zhang Xiuyuan's nerves tensed up and he became alert. He hugged the little bun tightly in his arms, took a few steps back, and his eyes were fixed on the person who was about to come in.
Soon, the footsteps stopped at the door, and the sound of unlocking was heard again.
Zhang Xiuyuan squinted his eyes and the first thing he saw was a lantern emitting bright light. Looking up, the lantern reflected the man's face.
When he saw that familiar face, even though Zhang Xiuyuan was usually calm, he was shocked.
"How could it be you!?" Zhang Xiuyuan asked in disbelief.
"Yes, it's me." Shen Chaomu admitted bluntly.
The person who came was Shen Chaomu. She was dressed in black as black as ink, and seemed to blend into the entire night.
