In the past three days, Luo Lan had been either coaxing Huaiyu or going to the street to prepare the ingredients for three days later.
On April 23rd, she arrived at the military camp early in the morning with three carriages full of food.
The soldiers guarding the gate did not dare to ask too many questions about her arrival and let her in directly.
She brought the ingredients and went straight to the kitchen. After giving instructions to the people there, she started preparing.
She didn't leave the kitchen all morning. Leng Yu knew she was here but didn't bother her. He wouldn't stop her from doing what she wanted to do.
At noon, the aroma of food wafted from the kitchen, and Luo Lan called Xiao Lingzi over.
"General Ling, distribute these dishes to the officers and soldiers. We will sit together and eat to celebrate the prince's birthday."
The prince’s birthday?
Xiao Lingzi looked at her in surprise. Suddenly, he slapped his forehead and exclaimed:
"Yes, April 23rd, today is the prince's birthday. A few years ago, we celebrated his birthday in the military camp, and later in Ningguta..."
Thinking of the past, he suddenly stopped what he was about to say and pursed his lips tightly, as if he was extremely sad when he thought of that unbearable past.
Luo Lan raised the corners of his eyes slightly and smiled at Xiao Lingzi:
"Let's not talk about the past, let's get to work!"
Only then did Xiao Lingzi put aside his sad past, took a few people, and went out to distribute the pots of delicious dishes.
It was lunch time. Liu Dechang, Leng Yu, Luo Lan, Xiao Lingzi, Xiao Shuangzi, Xiao Ningzi, Xiao Tanzi, Zhang Yuan, A Yu and A Hou sat at a table.
Looking at the table full of food, Luo Lan blinked cunningly and muttered to himself:
“Food without wine is tasteless.”
Hearing his daughter say this, Liu Dechang sighed, "That's true, but there are rules in the military camp. You can't drink during the day."
"Rules are dead, but people are alive. Today is my husband's birthday, so why don't we break the rules and drink less?"
Hearing this, Liu Dechang looked at Leng Yu, "Prince Yu? Is this feasible?"
A faint smile appeared on Leng Yu's lips, and then he nodded.
"Lan'er is right. General Ling, give the order to cancel all training activities this afternoon and give everyone a day off."
Hearing this, Xiao Lingzi responded excitedly and ran off to tell everyone the good news.
At this time, Luo Lan waved his hand, and Ahong trotted over and handed over a bottle of wine. When Liu Dechang saw the bottle of wine, his eyes suddenly widened.
"My daughter, are you preparing this for Daddy?"
Luo Lan tilted her head and smiled. She blinked her eyes and looked at Liu Dechang, saying jokingly:
"No, this is what I prepared for my husband. Today is his birthday. Whether he gives it to you or not is not my decision."
Hearing this, Leng Yu snatched the bottle from her hand, opened the bottle cap without saying anything, poured a full glass, and then respectfully raised it in front of him.
"Father-in-law, please!"
"Hahaha!"
His actions made Liu Dechang, who was just dumbfounded, grin instantly. He took the glass of wine and nodded happily.
"Okay, okay. I, Liu Dechang, have guarded the border for many years. I thought I would die alone, but unexpectedly, at the very last moment... I still have a daughter and son-in-law to take care of me."
At this point, tears flashed in his eyes. Seeing this, Luo Lan quickly interrupted and said:
"Dad, today is a happy day. Don't say such unhappy words. My husband and I will be filial to you in the future."
"Okay, okay, with you guys here, it's worth it even if Dad dies now."
"Pah, pah, pah!"
After saying this, he immediately realized that something was wrong and spit out a few times. Then he picked up the wine glass and said to everyone:
"Today is Yu'er's birthday. As an elder, I'd like to say a few words. I'd like to borrow a line from the Book of Songs to send my son-in-law a blessing: 'On a good day, may you enjoy the good times.'"
"good!"
Everyone clapped, and Leng Yu raised his glass, "Thank you, father-in-law."
He would only call Liu Dechang "father-in-law" when it came to family matters. In the military camp, he was more accustomed to calling him General Liu.
After drinking a glass of wine, Ah Hong poured another glass of wine for everyone. Luo Lan then looked at Leng Yu with sparkling eyes and raised his glass to congratulate him:
"My husband, I am here to wish you a happy life like this day every year. I wish you a smooth sailing in the future. I am willing to accompany you all the way."
Her words seemed simple to outsiders, but tears welled up in Leng Yu's eyes.
He looked at Luo Lan, feeling an indescribable mixture of emotions. Last year on his birthday, he didn't even get to eat a bowl of longevity noodles. No one even knew about it, and no one would remember his birthday. A year later, he was sitting here, with these brothers accompanying him on his birthday, and his beloved woman cooking for him and sending him blessings. This was something he had never dared to dream of in those three years.
For a moment, he suddenly felt that he was the happiest person in the world.
He just looked at Luo Lan, nodded heavily, then tilted his head back and drank the wine in the glass.
He had so many things to say, but he just wanted to tell her secretly.
Today was a happy day, so Leng Yu drank a little too much. In the afternoon, Luo Lan took him back to Prince Yu's Mansion, hoping to let him have a good sleep.
But after returning home, he actually held her hand and refused to let go, muttering non-stop.
"My dear, I don't know how to thank you. I am where I am today because of you. You are my... savior."
"I understand. You should get some sleep first!"
