A Cai walked out without knowing why and closed the door.
Luo Lan put down the spoon in his hand and looked at her in confusion.
"Ahong, what happened? You look so nervous."
Ah Hong pursed her lips, pointed at the basket in her hand, and said in a trembling voice:
"Princess...Princess, I...I found it..."
Before she could finish her words, Ah Hong swallowed hard, not knowing what to say next.
Luo Lan frowned impatiently and said:
"Could you please stop hesitating?"
Ah Hong then placed the basket in her hand on the chair, lifted the floral cloth on it, and pointed at the basket. Luo Lan looked in the direction of her finger and saw the child in the basket staring at her with his small eyes.
Luo Lan was so frightened that he covered his mouth and asked in surprise:
"Where...where did this child come from?"
Ah Hong's face turned pale as she shook her head vigorously, staring blankly at him and replied:
"When I came back just now, he was left at the door. I don't know who put it there, but I felt sorry for him, so I brought him back."
Hearing Ah Hong say this, Luo Lan took a breath of cold air. A child was born out of the blue, this... this was too weird.
She stood up and walked over to the basket to take a closer look, muttering:
"This child seems to have been born not long ago. Could it be that a poor family couldn't afford to raise the child and sent him to the palace? But our palace is not an orphanage. Later, you can send this child to the government office and let them find a good family for him!"
Ah Hong nodded, but the child suddenly started crying. Seeing this, Luo Lan quickly signaled Ah Hong to pick him up.
Just as Ah Hong was holding the child, a letter fell out of the baby's swaddling blanket. Luo Lan hurriedly squatted down and picked it up.
Presumably, this letter was left by the child's biological parents. Thinking of this, she spread out the letter, and the words on it immediately made her frown.
"Princess Yu, I know you are a kind person. Please keep this child. She has no father or mother. If you send her somewhere else, she will definitely be bullied. You are the only person I trust in this world. She is a girl, so she won't eat much. I have placed all the silver I can afford in the basket. Please keep her by your side. Thank you."
There was no signature on it, nor was there any information on the child's identity or origin, but the letter said that the child trusted her very much. So this person must not be a stranger. Who could it be?
Luo Lan rummaged through the basket and found a few pieces of silver underneath. In addition, there was also a Pisces jade pendant. The pendant had a unique shape and looked very valuable.
Next to the jade pendant was a white jade peacock hairpin, which was probably left by the child's mother.
While coaxing the child to sleep, Ah Hong said worriedly:
"Princess, if we send this child to the government office, will she starve? Look how cute she is!"
Luo Lan's eyes were sharp and deep, and she didn't know what to do.
This child suddenly appeared and asked her to adopt him. How could she raise him without finding out the child's background?
Just when she didn't know what to do, Ah Hong pulled a handkerchief off the child's body and said, "Princess, look, there are words on this handkerchief."
Luo Lan took the handkerchief from her hand and saw a small word "Min" on one corner of the handkerchief. If you didn't look carefully, you couldn't see it clearly.
The word Min?
The word "Min" suddenly reminded Luo Lan of someone. She counted on her fingers and found that the dates seemed to be almost the same.
Thinking of this, she frowned and said to Ah Hong:
"Don't tell anyone about this child yet. Take her out now and throw her into the mass grave in the west of the city."
"princess……"
Ah Hong looked at her with disbelief and fear in her eyes.
She couldn't believe that the princess would be so cruel as to abandon this living child.
Luo Lan said softly with eyes flashing like cold stars:
"If I'm not mistaken, the child's mother must be nearby. Only by doing this can we force her to show up. If we don't find out the child's origins, we can't keep her."
After saying this, she said to Ah Hong with a serious expression:
"Go ahead, Ah Cai and I will be there soon."
"But...but your body..."
"No problem..."
Luo Lan waved his hand directly, "I want to see if this person is the one I think he is."
She would not adopt a child of unknown origin. On the contrary, if the child really belonged to that person, she would not adopt it either. She was already pregnant and was about to give birth to her own child. There was no need for her to adopt someone else's child.
After a while, Ah Hong came out from the back door of the palace carrying a basket. She looked around in panic, then took big strides and walked towards the west of the city.
Ah Hong walked to the mass graves west of the city, found an open space, put down the basket containing the child, and muttered to herself:
"It's not that I'm cruel, I just can't afford to support you, and our princess is about to give birth, so you can only fend for yourself here."
After saying this, she touched the child's little face, then turned around and left resolutely.
She walked down the mountain along the path and came directly behind a big tree, where she met Luo Lan and A Cai who were hiding there.
Luo Lan's eyes were fixed on the basket, fearing that the child might get into trouble.
After a while, a woman really walked quickly towards the basket. Ah Cai muttered softly:
"Look, someone's passing by."
Ah Hong also nodded, "It's a woman. If I'm not mistaken, this should be the child's mother."
