An An took Leng Ming's hand, shook it, and said:
"Uncle, please play with us."
Leng Ming frowned and shook his head in embarrassment.
"No, my uncle has something important to do tonight. I'll accompany you guys when I'm free."
"Something important? What is it?"
An An's curiosity was instantly aroused. She looked up at Leng Ming. Huaiyu and Xiaobao were also waiting for him to speak.
Leng Ming looked back at Yu Qiaoqiao and A Cai who were still sitting in the pavilion, bent down, and said mysteriously:
"Today is the Ghost Festival. It's said that deceased relatives will appear tonight, so I'm going to meet a very important friend of mine. Please don't tell anyone about this. This is my uncle's secret."
An An opened her eyes wide and looked at him puzzledly.
"Can the dead appear? Then can brother Huaiyu's mother, who is dead, also appear? Brother Huaiyu really wants to go see his mother."
An An's question, coupled with Huaiyu's expectant eyes, suddenly made Leng Ming feel sad. He regretted what he had just said, and felt ashamed of himself for wanting to take advantage of these children. At this moment, he wanted to slap himself a few times to make himself sober.
Such a young child has never seen his mother, so he must have a strong sense of anticipation in his heart. If others tell him that he has the opportunity to see his mother, he will dare to go through it even if it means going through mountains of swords and seas of fire. It will be easy to use him.
But he couldn't do that. Even if he could guarantee the children's safety, he didn't want to see the disappointed look in their eyes when they couldn't see Huai Yu Niang.
He cannot take advantage of the child's innocent heart, otherwise he will look down on himself for the rest of his life, even though he really wants to show his merit in front of Leng Yu.
Thinking of this, he shook his head vigorously.
"No, uncle was just joking. Come on, uncle will accompany you to play over there."
He didn't want to talk about it anymore, nor did he want to do it again.
Although he was eager to achieve success, he also knew that children should not be involved in matters between adults. They were the most innocent and pitiful.
An An and Huai Yu looked at each other with pouting lips, then held Leng Ming's hand and ran towards the rockery.
The palace was peaceful today. Leng Ming played with the children for a while and then left the palace early. At dusk, the emperor was finally tired and agreed to let Lele leave the palace and return home. Acai took the three children, and Yu Qiaoqiao took Xiaobao, and they walked out of the palace together.
Under the slanting moonlight, Huaiyu walked out of the palace with a heavy heart. An An looked at him from time to time. Perhaps she saw what he was thinking, and gently pulled the corner of his clothes, whispering,
"Brother, the moon is so round today."
Huaiyu looked up at the bright moon hanging in the sky and nodded with some disappointment.
"Well, the moon on the Ghost Festival is really round. I really hope what my uncle said is true."
"Shh!"
An An put his finger to his lips, glanced at Ah Cai who was walking behind him, and whispered:
"Brother, I know what you want to do. Don't say anything now. Aunt Acai will see that we are watching closely. When we get to the palace gate, there will be people from Prince Yu's Mansion waiting there. We will discuss what to do after we return to the palace."
Huaiyu looked at An An with a puzzled look, "What do you mean?"
"Shh! I've been wanting to help you fulfill this wish for a long time. Let's do it tonight!"
Huaiyu's big eyes blinked several times, and then she nodded in understanding.
Lele, with a puzzled look on his face, listened to their whispered conversation and asked curiously:
"What are you talking about?"
An An looked at him mysteriously and muttered softly,
"If you want to know, when we get home, pretend to be asleep. After the servants leave, we'll gather in the back garden. We're going to have a big operation tonight."
Lele's curiosity was immediately aroused, and he nodded hurriedly.
"Okay, you guys have to wait for me!"
The three children were talking as they walked. Ah Cai heard their muttering and took two steps forward and asked:
"An An, what are you talking about? Are you hungry?"
An An nodded quickly and changed the subject.
"Auntie Acai, I said I was hungry and wanted to eat chicken legs, but my brother insisted that braised pork was delicious, and Lele said he wanted to eat roast pigeon. Who do you think is right?"
Ah Cai chuckled helplessly.
"You are all right. I will prepare these three dishes for you when we get back."
Huaiyu waved her hands busily.
"Mom said we can't eat too much at night because it's hard to digest. Let's eat tomorrow. I want to go to bed early today."
Lele also nodded,
"Yes, I'm tired too. I want to go to bed early."
Ah Cai pulled the corner of her mouth and nodded heavily.
"That's fine. Today is Ghost Festival. It is said that many ghosts will appear tonight. It's safer to go back to bed early."
Listening to Ah Cai's words, Huaiyu's eyes were suddenly filled with anticipation. He asked curiously,
"Auntie Acai, will all the ghosts come out tonight?"
"Yes, Ghost Festival is the day when ghosts can revel freely. On this day, the underworld will make an exception and release all ghosts, allowing them to walk around the human world and secretly visit their families..."
Yu Qiaoqiao walked beside Ah Cai, listened to her words, and replied with a chuckle:
"What you said is quite scary, but I've also heard my mother mention that on Ghost Festival, you should stay away from going out. You might encounter some ghosts on the road..."
"mother……"
Xiaobao tugged at the corner of Yu Qiaoqiao's clothes, looked up at her with a shivering voice,
