Chapter 369 Solved 1

It was something extraordinary, the kind that even someone of his status couldn't refuse.

He looked at the old man and answered honestly, "It's Miss Su from City A, whom Grandpa liked before."

He deliberately added a few words that his grandfather used to like.

The old man has passed away. Once he passed away, the marriage he promised was something that, unless the parties involved changed their minds, there was generally no room for negotiation.

Hearing Gong Chengjue's words, the old gentleman didn't press further, simply humming in agreement, "Go ahead and get back to work." This was a clear dismissal.

Gong Chengjue breathed a sigh of relief and nodded, "Take care of yourself, sir."

The old man simply walked back to the lakeside, seemingly intending to continue fishing.

As soon as Gong Chengjue left, the old gentleman's man in black stepped forward, "Old gentleman..."

"This young Cheng is good-looking and capable," the old man said inexplicably, but that was the end of it.

……………………

Gong Chengjue got into the car, sat down, glanced back, and his expression was uncertain.

Remembering something, he called Gong Changfan. "Uncle, I've contacted Second Uncle. He said we should wait a couple of days before taking action."

Gong Changfan breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this. Being able to contact Gong Changhong meant that he was safe.

but……

Gong Changfan was still somewhat curious about how Gong Chengjue had made the contact.

He had tried to pull some strings today, but he was subtly reminded that it was pointless to ask questions about someone of Gong Changhong's rank when he was on a mission; it would be useless anyway.

Gong Changfan thought he wouldn't be able to get any information, but to his surprise, Gong Chengjue had already spoken with Gong Changhong.

"It was conveyed by an old gentleman." Gong Chengjue carefully considered his words and gave this ambiguous answer.

Gong Changfan didn't ask any more questions. "Then we'll take action in two days."

……………………

City A

Su Ziqing was busy as usual, but when she stopped to rest, she would still think of Gong Chengjue in the capital, wondering how things were going on his end.

Gong Chengjue called her and said that things would be resolved soon, especially in the next couple of days, and told her to travel less.

It's been two days now...

Just as she was about to pick up her phone to call him, her phone rang first. She looked at the caller ID and frowned slightly, but still answered the phone, "Hello."

"Sister, I've remembered something again." It was Su Xiaoman's voice on the other end of the phone.

Su Ziqing stood up from her office chair, walked to the window, and gave a faint "Hmm," saying, "Go ahead."

"Can we talk in person?" Su Xiaoman asked timidly.

"No way." Su Ziqing refused outright. She wouldn't create any unnecessary trouble at this time by meeting anyone.

Su Xiaoman became anxious upon hearing this, "Sister, it's really important, it's not convenient to talk about it on the phone."

"Su Xiaoman," Su Ziqing interrupted her calmly, "If you have something to say, just say it. If it's inconvenient for you to say it, then don't say it. I don't have time right now."

Seeing that Su Xiaoman really wouldn't say anything, Su Ziqing hung up the phone directly.

Unbeknownst to her, Su Xiaoman on the other end of the phone was being threatened and was sitting upright on the sofa, too afraid to move.

At this moment, Su Xiaoman was on the verge of tears.

Her suitcase was lying to the side, but... she couldn't leave.

The woman looked at Su Xiaoman and smiled coldly, "Didn't you say you could invite her over?"

Su Xiaoman's eyes were filled with terror. "I... I'll try calling again."

"No need." The woman looked at Su Xiaoman's terrified face, but showed no pity whatsoever.

“Miss Su, one should be kind and considerate.” She approached Su Xiaoman.

Su Xiaoman trembled like a leaf, begging for mercy, "Don't kill me, I can give you money, as much as you want, no, as much as you want, fifty million, fifty million, okay?"

"Sorry, I'm on a mission, I don't talk about money." The woman patted Su Xiaoman's shoulder and then left in Su Xiaoman's fright.

Su Xiaoman thought she had escaped disaster, but then pain began to come from her neck.

She unconsciously raised her hand to touch her neck, and blood... gushed out.

……………………

Su Ziqing stayed up until lunch break, and finally couldn't help but call Gong Chengjue, "Chengjue, how's it going on your end? Any news?"

The call had just connected when another call came in. She glanced at it and then ignored it.

It was a call from Su Xiaoman.

Gong Chengjue hummed in agreement. "Gong Changming escaped, and Gong Changsheng was taken away by the investigation team."

Su Ziqing was startled upon hearing this. "Gong Changming escaped? Didn't you keep an eye on him before?"

Gong Chengjue didn't know how to explain this, so he could only say, "Before this, he was free."

The review team members are not public officials, and Gong Changming is not unarmed.

“Then…” Su Ziqing looked at the incoming call display on her phone again. What’s wrong with Su Xiaoman? She said she didn’t have time to see her.

"What's wrong?"

“Su Xiaoman has been calling me all along,” Su Ziqing said. “This morning she called to say she had thought of something and asked me to meet her to talk about it, but I refused.”

"Well, whether she remembers anything or not is no longer important. You don't need to worry about my situation either; everything is under control." Gong Chengjue's voice softened unconsciously. "You should be careful when you travel. I don't know if Gong Changming will send someone to do anything."

"I know." Better safe than sorry.

Su Ziqing had just hung up the phone when she received another call from Su Xiaoman. This time she answered, but her tone was very impatient, "Su Xiaoman, if you have something to say, say it over the phone. I don't have time to meet with you."

"Hello, are you the deceased's sister?" came a slightly formulaic question from the other end of the phone.

Su Ziqing was somewhat confused when she heard the word "deceased." "What did you say? Deceased?"

Su Xiaoman... is dead?

How could that be? We just spoke on the phone this morning, only a few hours ago.

And shouldn't Su Xiaoman be leaving the country today?

"This is from the XX Public Security Bureau. Could you please come over here?"

After hanging up the phone, Su Ziqing was still in a state of surprise, but it only lasted for a dozen seconds before she came to her senses.

Su Xiaoman was probably...

The people who had been protecting Su Ziqing had left when she was discharged from the hospital, so Su Ziqing was unaware of the truth of the matter.

But I guess it's just as I suspected.

She quickly called Gong Chengjue back, but the line was busy. She stood up, pressed the intercom, and asked her secretary to arrange a car.

But when she reached the gate, she turned back.

Wait, isn't this just a coincidence?

Su Ziqing thought back to the scene when Su Xiaoman called that morning, and pondered deeply, "Was Su Xiaoman's tone a little off at the time?"
