Chapter 70 Getting Shy

The old man's special treatment of Gong Chengjue was unmatched by any other descendant of the Gong family.

Even if the other descendants are also outstanding and obedient, they cannot compare to Gong Chengjue!

Gu Mingyin looked at her son and said, "If he can get in, you might be able to too."

“But…” Gong Chengkun looked at Gu Mingyin, “would the other uncles be willing to let another one into our family?”

Gu Mingyin didn't speak, "Wait a little longer."

…………………………

Gong Changzhou was the eldest son of Old Master Gong, but he was not the most favored son among all his children.

His abilities were neither the most outstanding nor the most mediocre; they were merely average. However, being the eldest son gave him a significant advantage.

Gong Changzhou knocked on the door. "Father, are you asleep?"

No one answered the door for a long time.

Just as Gong Changzhou was about to give up and turn to leave, the door opened, and Old Master Gong, wearing a bathrobe, opened the door and walked to the bed.

Gong Changzhou entered the room and closed the door behind him.

"Father, I will teach Chengjue a lesson, please don't be angry." Gong Changzhou stated his purpose directly as soon as he entered the room.

"Besides lecturing him, what else can you do?" Old Master Gong sat down and coldly rebuked him.

Gong Changzhou: "..."

Grandpa Gong looked at his silent eldest son and grew angrier the more he looked. Children who don't talk back are infuriating, and children who do talk back are infuriating too.

The atmosphere in the room suddenly became somewhat awkward.

Gong Changzhou was not used to being alone with the old man, and he had always been aware of the old man's criticism and dissatisfaction with him.

However, the picky old man was the same way with his other children, so he didn't think much of it.

"What do you think of that girl?" Old Master Gong suddenly asked.

Gong Changzhou immediately frowned slightly, "Not a good match..." Meeting the old man's critical gaze, Gong Changzhou swallowed his words and directly said the thing he cared about most, "I heard that he also has a broken palm."

"But Chengjue insists on marrying her." Old Master Gong looked at Gong Changzhou and sneered, "What do you say?"

"How can he marry the eldest son..." Gong Changzhou stopped himself from saying the rest of the sentence.

Everyone has moments of impulsiveness, and he was one of them back then, which led to the existence of Gong Chengjue. However, as it turns out, people have to pay the price for their impulsiveness.

"I will not agree." Gong Changzhou's attitude was forceful.

Grandpa Gong gave him a deep look, "You see things clearly now."

Gong Changzhou knew very well that the old man doted on his eldest grandson, Gong Chengjue, and that it was because of Gong Chengjue's existence that their branch of the family was the most important.

Otherwise, given the old man's attitude towards him, they might not have had the last laugh.

Even though Old Master Gong showed such favoritism, the other branches of the family showed no intention of admitting defeat or backing down.

Before everything is settled, it's impossible to know who wins and who loses. Gong Chengjue is very important to their branch of the family, and even more important to him.

"Didn't Father arrange a marriage for Chengjue?" Gong Changzhou said, looking at the old man. "For the sake of the family, he shouldn't be so sensible."

"He has already refused," Old Master Gong stated clearly. "Besides, you saw what happened tonight. Do you think anyone else would agree now?"

Who wouldn't know that Gong Chengjue was protecting Su Ziqing tonight?

Upon hearing this, Gong Changzhou remained silent for a long time.

“Changzhou.” Old Master Gong suddenly sighed.

“Yes, Father,” he replied.

"The Gong family is a large and powerful family, and protecting its assets worth hundreds of billions is not easy," Old Master Gong said with a worried expression.

It wasn't that he looked down on his children, but rather that they simply couldn't hold on to their parents.

Gong Chengjue was the one he was most satisfied with, so he would not give up such a person who could protect the family for any reason.

"Father, rest assured, we will definitely protect this vast family business." Gong Changzhou said confidently.

Old Master Gong: "..."

"I've decided to agree to Chengjue's marriage proposal," Old Master Gong suddenly said.

"Yes, what?" Gong Changzhou was a beat slow to realize what he had heard.

"Father?" He agreed to the marriage with Gong Chengjue, to that woman with the severed hand?

"But that's on the condition that Chengjue achieves results that satisfy me." Old Master Gong looked at Gong Changzhou. "If he does, you shouldn't raise any more objections."

“But…” Gong Changzhou had no intention of letting Su Ziqing, with her status, enter the Gong family.

"He said he had already given away his ring." Old Master Gong no longer hid it from his son. "Our Gong family should always be people of our word, shouldn't we?"

Gong Changzhou felt that all his words had been swallowed back. Everyone thought that the old man was angry at Gong Chengjue for being disobedient, but it turned out that the old man had already made up his mind to follow Gong Chengjue.

"I wonder what requirements Father intends to set for Chengjue?" Gong Changzhou couldn't help but ask.

“I told him that if he doubles his investment within a year, I will agree to his decision.” Old Master Gong looked at Gong Changzhou.

Gong Changzhou was startled. This was the same request the old man had made of him back then, and he ended up marrying Gu Mingyin because he hadn't fulfilled it.

Doubling your money may sound easy, but real investment takes time. Doubling your money in one year is far more difficult than tripling it in three years or five times it in five years.

After all, research, planning, and even investment all take time; a year is too short.

"Do you have any objections?" Old Master Gong asked, looking at him.

"Everything will be as you arrange, Father," Gong Changzhou said.

………………………

Su Ziqing woke up in the warm bed and opened her eyes to meet Gong Chengjue's deep eyes.

She tugged at the blanket. "Awake?"

Gong Chengjue raised his hand and touched her face. "Hmm, did you sleep well?"

Of course it's bad!! How could she possibly get any sleep all night?!

She deliberately slapped his hand away, then tried to grab her clothes to put them on, but they were all on the floor...

Gong Chengjue watched her embarrassment with amusement.

“Close your eyes,” she said, glaring at him, making her feel embarrassed.

Gong Chengjue simply pulled her into his arms and asked, "Are you shy?"

She pinched his waist. "Stop fooling around. I'm going to the branch office to check on things today."

The branch company was originally intended to be established; Old Master Su had made this arrangement before his death. However, as things have unfolded, the person in charge of the branch company has now been replaced by someone from her side.

Gong Chengjue hummed in agreement, but showed no intention of letting go.

Su Ziqing was too lazy to move while nestled in her room. "Bring me my clothes."

Gong Chengjue glanced at the clothes on the floor, but showed no intention of moving.

"Gong Chengjue!" She nudged him.

"You can't wear clothes that are dirty," he said with a smile.

"Stop messing around, I really have something to do." Su Ziqing pushed him away and decided to pick it up herself, but then she saw him suddenly get out of bed and pick her up.
