"Otherwise what?" Gong Chengjue rolled his eyes at him and walked towards the study.
These past two days, he has been doing everything at home, and postponing things that he couldn't do at home.
What else? Of course, it's to show off! Qin Yuheng felt that this was hopeless.
"How is she feeling?" Gong Chengjue walked around the desk and sat back down in his chair.
"Now that he's awake, he's probably alright. Don't rush, your injury needs some medicine." Qin Yuheng opened the first-aid kit.
Gong Chengjue unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his muscular upper body. The house was heated, creating a stark contrast with the icy, snowy landscape outside.
Qin Yuheng disinfected his wound with a cotton swab, frowning slightly. "It's not healing very well. Be careful."
"Hmm." Gong Chengjue sat still, letting Qin Yuheng disinfect and apply medicine to him.
"You went back to Beijing a couple of days ago?"
"Um."
"Didn't the old man notice anything wrong with you? That's fine." Qin Yuheng packed his medicine box.
"I don't know." Gong Chengjue put his clothes back on and slowly buttoned them up.
"Tell me, how long do you plan to stay in City A?" The Gong family's home turf is in the capital.
Gong Chengjue glanced at him. "Qin Yuheng, don't you think you're talking too much?"
"You think I talk too much? Fine, I'm leaving." Qin Yuheng curled his lip. "I've already turned down business from several big clients while keeping you locked up here for two days."
"The money will be deposited into your account." Gong Chengjue gave him a disdainful look. "You're obsessed with money."
"Thank you, Young Master Gong~" Qin Yuheng smiled.
"Any progress on the matter I asked you to investigate?" Gong Chengjue casually flipped through the unfinished document, asking as he read.
"We really can't find anything out about Su Shilin's matter." Qin Yuheng pulled up a chair and sat down, his hands folded in front of him, his brows furrowed slightly, as if he were troubled.
“He was diagnosed with a terminal illness a few months ago, and all the medications prescribed by the hospital were appropriate.” Qin Yuheng looked at Gong Chengjue. “Do you really think he was murdered?”
Su Ziqing stood outside the study, and even though the study door was slightly ajar, she could hear their conversation clearly from outside.
She had something she wanted to tell Gong Chengjue, but she didn't expect to hear this kind of conversation.
Gong Chengjue sent people to investigate?
"What did the hospital say?" Gong Chengjue asked instead of answering.
“Grandpa Su is actively undergoing treatment. Although his various physical indicators are not as good as those of a healthy person, he doesn’t seem to have symptoms that would lead to a sudden death.” Qin Yuheng paused for a moment, “but his symptoms don’t seem like those of a person who would suddenly die.”
"Hmm," Gong Chengjue responded softly.
“Although terminal illnesses are difficult to treat, given Mr. Su’s condition, the doctor said he can at least hold on for another year and a half,” Qin Yuheng added.
"Miss Su." Luo Jinhan called out when he saw Su Ziqing standing outside the study.
The conversation in the study was interrupted.
Su Ziqing strode into the study, looking directly at Gong Chengjue. "My grandfather... was murdered?"
She remembered that on the day of the accident, he reminded her that the blood her grandfather vomited was dark red.
But if it's poisoning or something, shouldn't it be black?
Gong Chengjue remained silent.
Su Ziqing stopped in front of the desk, her hands gripping the edge, her eyes sunken and lifeless from two days of high fever. "Gong Chengjue, tell me."
Gong Chengjue closed the document and set it aside. "There's still no concrete evidence..."
If the people who targeted Su Shilin were members of the Su family, or even important members of the Su family, then this matter will become very difficult to investigate.
Think about the Su family: Old Madam Su, Su Shilin's two sons, Su Tianming and Su Tianhao—if they were all involved…
Su Ziqing's head was still a little dizzy, "Why did they do this..."
This question was more of a self-question than a question directed at them.
Gong Chengjue looked at her. "What do you think?"
Su Ziqing looked at Gong Chengjue, but swallowed her words back.
When Attorney Jin contacted her, he said that the Su family had hired another lawyer when her grandfather passed away. Therefore, the most likely explanation is that they inadvertently learned about her grandfather's plan to make a will.
"Yuheng, you go back first." Gong Chengjue gestured for Qin Yuheng to leave.
Only Gong Chengjue and Su Ziqing remained in the study. Su Ziqing sat down listlessly.
Some questions are actually quite silly to ask.
She wasn't an ignorant little girl in her early teens. Having spent years abroad, she had seen and experienced a lot. She just never imagined that she would find herself in such a quagmire.
Su Ziqing silently supported her forehead with her hand.
Gong Chengjue sat there watching her, without saying a word.
Su Ziqing remained silent for nearly half an hour, while Gong Chengjue processed several documents without urging her or asking about her plans.
A tacit understanding seemed to have formed in the quiet study; if she didn't speak, he wouldn't speak either.
Finally, Su Ziqing raised her head, her eyes filled with determination as she looked at Gong Chengjue. "Since Mr. Gong wants to get engaged to me, can we have a deeper discussion?"
Gong Chengjue's lips curled slightly as he looked at her intently. "For example?"
Su Ziqing met his gaze. "Given Mr. Gong's status, he wouldn't just randomly pick someone to be his fiancée, would he? What's the reason? If Mr. Gong won't say, then I won't ask, but I have one condition..."
Gong Chengjue raised an eyebrow. "Are you trying to negotiate with me?"
Su Ziqing gave a slight twitch at the corner of her mouth. She wanted to say that, but she didn't. "I just wanted to remind you that if you gain something, you will definitely have to pay something in return."
"I won't ask your reasons. I'll cooperate to be your fiancée, and you, cooperate to be my fiancé, how about it?" This sounds reasonable, but upon closer examination, one can tell that he's at a disadvantage.
But why did he have to propose first? If he hadn't come to the Su family, she would never have approached him.
Unexpectedly, Gong Chengjue readily agreed, "Okay."
"Then, let's set a deadline?" Su Ziqing said seriously.
“There is no time limit,” Gong Chengjue said, looking at her.
Upon hearing this, Su Ziqing unconsciously frowned. "What does 'no time limit' mean?" Does it mean they're bound together forever?
Gong Chengjue stood up. "What I mean is, if I say stop, then stop; if I don't say stop, the game continues."
Su Ziqing scoffed, "That's not fair."
"Yeah, it's pretty unfair," he agreed.
Su Ziqing: "..."
"Three years, five years?" She gritted her teeth. "Ten years is fine too."
Gong Chengjue's expression darkened slightly. "Does Miss Su feel that being with me is a loss for her?"
“No, I’m afraid my broken palm will bring you bad luck,” she said seriously.
He looked into her eyes, unsure whether she was serious or joking. He walked up to her, bent down, and rested his hands on the edge of the chair to look her in the eye.
Su Ziqing blinked, her long eyelashes fluttering like fans.
"I've said it before, I'm not afraid."
