Eat cake with him
On a late autumn afternoon, sunlight filtered through the cherry blossom trees on the back hill of Yumenosaki Academy, casting dappled shadows on the grass. Although the cherry blossoms had long since faded, the branches remained upright, as if guarding a couple beneath the trees. Kokoro sat on a bench under the tree, a delicate strawberry cake in front of her, pink cream adorned with fresh strawberries and decorated with a few golden ginkgo leaves.
"Happy birthday, Yingzhi," Xinyu said softly, holding a cup of hot cocoa in her hands.
He walked over to Xinyu, sat down gently, and his eyes sparkled with anticipation: "Thank you, Xinyu. This cake looks amazing."
"This is something I prepared especially for you." Xinyu smiled and took a small box out of her bag. "And this, a happy birthday present."
Yingzhi gently took her hand and placed the necklace around her neck: "You're so thoughtful, Xinyu. I'll cherish this gift forever."
He first cut off the largest piece, with a whole strawberry on it, and then handed it to Xinyu: "You eat first."
Xinyu smiled and took it, gently poked the strawberry with a small fork, and then put it in her mouth.
"Is it good?" he asked softly.
Xinyu nodded, her eyes sparkling with happiness: "It's delicious, just like our love, sweet and warm."
Xinyu paused, strawberry juice spilling from the corner of her mouth, but she was completely unaware.
Xin Yu's cheeks flushed slightly as she recalled the song "Hoshino Renka" that Eichi had played for her in Hoshino.
"You know what?" Yingzhi suddenly said, "The first time I saw you, I felt you were different from others."
Xinyu nodded gently, her eyes sparkling with memories: "Me too. The moment I saw you, I knew you were the one I'd been searching for."
Yingzhi took a delicate little box from his pocket, inside which was a star-shaped brooch. He gently pinned the brooch to Xinyu's collar: "I found this in Hoshino, and I thought it would suit you perfectly."
The two continued sharing the cake, chatting occasionally. Yingzhi recounted his daily life in the student council, how he balanced his studies and club activities, and his plans for the future. Xinyu shared her experiences after being transported to Yume no Saki, and how...
"Actually, there's something I've always wanted to ask you," Xinyu suddenly said, a hint of hesitation flashing in her eyes.
Yingzhi looked up, her eyes full of concern: "What's wrong?"
"Do you believe in fate?" Xinyu asked softly. "I think our meeting wasn't accidental, but rather an arrangement of fate."
"We should go back now," Yingzhi said softly, a hint of reluctance flashing in her eyes.
"Look over there," Yingzhi pointed to the playground in the distance, "Our class is training; it looks interesting."
They smiled at each other, their eyes filled with love. Yingzhi took a delicate little box from his pocket, inside which was a pair of couple's bracelets. He gently placed the bracelets on their wrists: "This is our promise; no matter what the future holds, we will be together."
The strawberry cake under the cherry blossom tree became the sweetest chapter in their love story. In the days to come, no matter what difficulties they encounter, they will walk hand in hand, creating their own happiness together. Because love can transcend all boundaries; because love can bind two people from different worlds together.
