Chapter 27 Gene Warriors

Han Feng leaned against a tree, catching his breath for a long time, and then pressed the communicator.

"The Blood Wolves have been wiped out. I'll send you the coordinates. Come over here quickly, especially Bai Lu."

"Received." Only one reply came from the walkie-talkie.

Just a few seconds later, Bai Lu's voice came: "Captain, are you injured?"

"It's just a minor injury, nothing serious."

After hanging up the communication, Han Feng stared at Blood Wolf's corpse. Blood Wolf's body lay on the ground, its twisted muscles and bulging blood vessels not yet fully subsided, and its bloodshot eyes were frozen with unbelievable fear until its death.

The night wind, carrying the smell of gunpowder, swept past. Han Feng leaned against a broken concrete slab, his face pale and his breathing heavy. Blood was still seeping from the penetrating wound in his left shoulder, staining a large patch of his combat uniform red. The pain from his broken ribs made each breath feel like being cut by a knife.

"Boss!" Iron Tower was the first to rush over, his two-meter-tall frame blocking Han Feng's path like a mountain. A rare look of panic appeared on his rugged face. "Where are you hurt?!"

Bai Lu followed closely behind, kneeling on one knee and quickly opening the medical kit. She lifted Han Feng's blood-soaked clothes, her pupils suddenly contracting. "This is called a 'minor injury'?!" Her voice suddenly rose, her fingers gently pressing on Han Feng's rib area. "A penetrating wound to the left shoulder, three broken ribs, one of which almost pierced his lung! There's also a contusion in the liver area!"

Poison Sting crouched to the side, his effeminate face unusually devoid of a smile: "Boss, you call this 'still able to fight'?"

Shadow silently handed over the hemostatic gel, while Ash had already set up his sniper rifle, scanning the surroundings warily, fearing that another enemy might appear.

Han Feng twitched the corner of his mouth, his voice hoarse: "I won't die."

"Bullshit!" Bai Lu cursed, but her movements were extremely gentle as she quickly injected him with painkillers. "Do you know how much blood you've lost? If you had waited another half hour, even a god couldn't have saved you!"

Iron Tower's fists clenched so tightly they cracked: "What kind of crap did those bastards use? How could they turn someone into this grotesque mess..."

After examining Blood Wolf's corpse, Night Owl's expression turned grave: "Genetic drugs, and military-grade ones at that. This stuff can sell for eight figures on the black market."

Everyone fell silent for a moment.

Bai Lu cut open Han Feng's sleeve and quickly cleaned his wound. "Iron Tower, help me stabilize his shoulder. Shadow, prepare the blood plasma!"

Iron Tower carefully held Han Feng down, afraid that he might use too much force: "Boss, if it hurts, just say so."

Han Feng closed his eyes briefly: "...Your words are more annoying than my injuries."

Everyone was stunned for a moment, then chuckled softly—the fact that he could still talk back meant he really wasn't going to die.

The roar of engines came from afar, and several military off-road vehicles sped towards them. Zhao Weiguo, the commander-in-chief of the Northern Military Region, and his chief of staff, Liu Xiaoran, quickly got out of the vehicles, followed by a squad of fully armed soldiers. When the two saw the corpse of Blood Wolf, their expressions changed drastically.

"This is...?!" Zhao Weiguo squatted down and pressed his fingers on the twisted skin of the blood wolf. The texture was as stiff as rubber.

Liu Xiaoran turned to Han Feng with surprise: "Captain Han, what's going on?"

Han Feng struggled to his feet, and Bai Lu immediately helped him up.

“General Zhao, Captain Liu.” His voice was low. “This matter involves too many areas. I must report to Long Yuan and Elder Lin first. We’ll discuss the details when we get back to the base.”

Zhao Weiguo frowned, wanting to ask more, but Liu Xiaoran raised her hand to stop him: "Let's go back to the base first. Your injury needs urgent treatment."

Without a word, Iron Tower bent down and carried Han Feng on his back: "Let's go, boss! If you dawdle any longer, White Egret will stab someone with a scalpel!"

Bai Lu glared at him fiercely: "Shut up!" Everyone quickly boarded the car, the engine roaring as it tore through the night.

When Han Feng and the others returned to the base, Bai Lu gave Han Feng a further examination. Bai Lu was initially worried, but after Han Feng regained some strength, he used his divine medical skills in front of her, instantly healing almost all of his injuries. Bai Lu's eyes widened: "Captain, sometimes I really wonder if you're even human."

On the way, Han Feng reported the mission's progress to Lin Zhengguo. Upon hearing that Han Feng was seriously injured, Lin Zhengguo exclaimed, "Nonsense!" The old man's voice came through the phone, "A one-on-one fight against a genetically modified warrior? Do you think you're Superman?!"

Han Feng chuckled: "Winning is enough."

Lin Zhengguo was so angry he couldn't speak. After a long while, he said, "I sent you some information. The drug that Blood Blade bought on the black market before setting off this time should be the same one that Blood Wolf drank before fighting you. The source of that drug... points to the US military laboratory."

"Should we tell Zhao Weiguo?"

"It's alright. Old Zhao was originally stationed to guard the northern border of China. This unexpected situation shows that other countries have begun to research gene therapy to modify super soldiers."

"Okay, I'll tell him in a bit."

Lin Zhengguo sighed softly, "Sigh, Xiao Han, you've worked hard. After you're done over there, come back and recover well."

Half an hour later, in the operations conference room of the Northern Military District, the data of Blood Wolf's corpse was analyzed frame by frame on the holographic projection screen. The abnormal proliferation of muscle fibers, the mutation indicators of bone density, and the dark blue drug components remaining in the blood were all clearly presented to everyone.

Zhao Weiguo stared at the data, his brows furrowed: "This kind of genetic modification technology has already exceeded the scope of conventional special forces soldiers."

Liu Xiaoran placed his hands on the table, his eyes flashing with shock and excitement: "Han Feng, are you sure he was forcibly enhanced by drugs? Or is he a natural genetic mutant?"

Han Feng stood in front of the projector and pulled up the last video of Blood Wolf's battle. In the video, Blood Wolf's muscles swelled under the stimulation of the drug, but his movements gradually became stiff. In the end, he was finished off by Han Feng with a precise cut to the carotid artery.

“A mature gene warrior wouldn’t make this kind of mistake,” Han Feng said calmly. “His reaction speed started to drop in the third minute, which means the drug’s effectiveness is unstable and may even have backfired on the host.”

Zhao Weiguo took a deep breath: "So, other countries are already secretly developing 'super soldiers'?"

Han Feng pulled up a document, which was the one Lin Zhengguo had just given him. "It should be."

A brief silence fell over the meeting room.

Liu Xiaoran suddenly slammed his fist on the table, leaving a slight dent in the metal surface: "We must master this technology first! Otherwise, the future battlefield—"

"Liu Xiaoran!" Zhao Weiguo shouted sternly, "China will never participate in such unethical genetic experiments!"

Liu Xiaoran gritted her teeth, but dared not refute, only staring intently at Han Feng.

Han Feng ignored his gaze and instead asked Zhao Weiguo, "Has the cleanup work in the Northern Border been arranged?"

“It’s all been handled. We’ve announced it was a counter-terrorism exercise.” Zhao Weiguo rubbed his temples. “However… the higher-ups might need you to report to them in person.”

Han Feng nodded: "I have already reported this to Elder Lin. We will return to Kyoto tomorrow."

"Your injuries?"

"Bai Lu gave me some simple treatment. I also know medicine myself, so I can move around easily now. This is also what Elder Lin wanted."

At this moment, Liu Xiaoran suddenly stood up straight, his voice filled with suppressed excitement: "Han Feng! I want to join Longyuan!"

Han Feng raised an eyebrow and turned his gaze to Zhao Weiguo.

Zhao Weiguo smiled wryly: "Don't look at me like that, it wasn't my idea."

Liu Xiaoran said eagerly, "I got first place in the entire military region's physical fitness test! I excelled in hand-to-hand combat, sniping, and demolition! I..."

"Longyuan doesn't accept hot-blooded rookies," Han Feng interrupted him, his tone calm. "If you can't even control your emotions, how can you carry out an infiltration mission?"

Liu Xiaoran's face flushed red, but he couldn't refute it.

Han Feng walked up to him and suddenly placed his hand on his shoulder. A cold, oppressive feeling instantly enveloped Liu Xiaoran, causing all the muscles in his body to tense instinctively.

"If you want to enter Longyuan, you must first learn to conceal your strength." Han Feng's voice was very low.

Liu Xiaoran's pupils shrank suddenly, while Han Feng had already turned and left.
