Chapter 53 Breaking Down His Defenses: He Might Not Really Want to Love You
Buster himself was a very outgoing person, so he could probably understand the fox-orc's enthusiasm. But he still found it a bit irritating, particularly the fox-orc's burning, probing gaze, as if searching for a son of the gods.
He gave a not-so-sincere smile, seemingly responding politely on behalf of Reinhardt, but actually drawing a clear line as he answered the fox-orc: "Thank you for your concern. He's feeling much better now and won't delay our next leg of the journey."
Budney, who wanted to hear Reinhardt's voice, gave an awkward smile and made way for the two of them.
Today is a nice day, but the snow that fell last night buried most of the paths, and it took the guides quite a while to figure out the way they had set up.
Fortunately, once they found the road, their journey became much easier and smoother.
According to another teammate's prediction, a terrible blizzard might arrive in five days. The cold snap could last from one to five months, to the point where even normally hardy trees could freeze to death. Therefore, they must save time and try to reach their destination within one or two days.
The remaining three days will serve as a buffer period for hunting and evacuation.
The main objective is hunting. If successful, they can use a flying vehicle or create a teleportation array on-site to return to the point where they initially met.
Time was of the essence, so the captain canceled the rest time. Fortunately, the adventurers were used to sleeping in the open like this, and even without stopping, they could eat the dry rations they carried with them as they walked.
Only Buster paid attention to mealtimes.
To ensure the health, divine power, and energy of the Son of God, Buster strictly monitored his meal times and quality.
While everyone else was taking out their rations and eating as they walked, Buster pulled out the hot bear meat chunks and potatoes he had packed the day before. Afraid that Reinhardt would get tired of it, he specially wrapped the meat chunks with fresh vegetables and put them in a very good quality fur coat to keep the food warm so that it wouldn't get cold and spoil if he ate too slowly.
The companions who accompanied him had different expressions, whether it was because he was wasting such a precious thing, or because the intimacy between the two brothers had exceeded the scope of ordinary people's understanding.
"We're very close now."
After climbing for another afternoon, and with dusk approaching, they found a more secluded spot to temporarily set up camp to ensure the team's safety.
They speculated that the demonized wolf king was a scout sent by the dragon. Also, to prevent other adventurers with the same goal from ambushing him, Budney specially set up a very intricate barrier, making him appear completely invisible from the outside.
In the Snow Country, fresh fruits and vegetables are more expensive than meat. To balance their nutrition, adventurers always carry some fruits and vegetables with them, or medicines with similar nutritional components. However, these few had stayed in the Snow Country for too long, and with the increase in similar expeditions, their vegetable reserves had dwindled. Now, seeing Byrne pulling out vegetables like they were free, they were all tempted and took out their last reserves to enjoy.
But no matter how I ate it, it just didn't taste right. It never tasted as good as the leafy greens that Hart was quietly munching on.
After finishing his food, the captain took out a parchment map from his pocket and began to plan the battle.
The strategy was simple and clear, with the lineup allocated according to each member's combat strengths. Finally, the captain glanced at Reinhardt and said to Buster, "For your brother's safety, I suggest you leave him outside, if there's time."
From the beginning, they felt that Reinhardt was a burden, and now they cared even less about his life or death. So the captain's words were not out of genuine concern that he would be in danger during their battle, but rather because he did not want him to distract Buster and become an obstacle.
Buster understood this perfectly; he even knew the dirty thoughts hidden behind the captain's words.
This snow-capped mountain, surrounded by wolves, not only harbors terrifying animals but may also attract the attention of other adventurers.
So he gave the captain a cold look, and the latter didn't say anything more.
Tonight's watchmen are Buster and Budney. These two guys, who inexplicably seem to have a knack for getting along, had a brief exchange before each sitting down to rest in their chosen sentry positions.
Budney pulled out a travelogue and leaned against a big tree to read it, while Buster and Reinhardt sat down directly opposite the campfire.
Reinhardt fell asleep again. Perhaps Buster gave him too much security; now he gets sleepy at the same time every day. Buster was happy to be his pillow.
His eyes were fixed on Reinhardt, and as he looked at the handsome blond potato, a smile kept creeping onto his face, like a beast that had just tasted meat and whose mind was only on the flesh.
His gaze pierced through the false exterior to see the true nature of the Son of God, listening to his long, even breaths. His eyes lingered on the rosy lips and the hazy, oil-painting-like eyes and brows, unable to look away for a long time.
It's just pure...cuteness, I want to kiss it.
Buster regretted it deeply; he shouldn't have insisted on calling them brothers, just because he thought of them as "brother." It would have been so much better if they had been partners; then he could have kissed them however he wanted.
Why not just tie these people up and beat them up to find out where the dragon is? That way we can save time and prevent him from kissing Reinhardt.
Buster's fingers were a little itchy. He glanced at Budney at the other end of the road and couldn't help himself. He secretly pinched Reinhardt's chin with his fingers and stealthily placed a kiss on those soft lips.
Before their lips even parted, he heard a 'thud' from the fire, the sound of something falling to the ground.
Budney's astonished expression didn't fade; it burned on the other side of the flames. Buster raised an eyebrow, showing no embarrassment at being caught, but instead revealing a hint of pride and self-satisfaction. He pinched Reinhardt's cheek and kissed him again in front of him.
Budney seemed about to say something, but ultimately held back, picked up the book, and went outside. Buster knew he had something to say but didn't want to disturb his teammates, so he snorted and chuckled, then carefully wrapped Reinhardt up and followed him out.
They hadn't walked far when they reached a tree trunk behind which they could see their teammates but wouldn't be able to hear their conversations.
"What do you want to say?" Buster asked arrogantly, like a victorious lion, his pride radiating from head to toe.
The fox-orc took a deep breath, glanced at the sleeping Reinhardt, then turned back, his gaze resolute: "Aren't you brothers? How could you do such a thing?! You, him, was he doing this willingly?"
Seeing him bring up his brothers again, the unreasonable Storm Chieftain was a little annoyed. He didn't even want to explain anything to this orc who dared to covet the son of the gods, and instead chose the most infuriating argument, raising his eyebrows and provocatively saying to Budni: "Whether it is or not, you have no chance."
Budni looked incredulous, as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
Buster, however, preferred to be ruthless and to the point of exhaustion, speaking slowly and deliberately.
"Whether he and I are brothers or not is none of your business. If we are, you have no right to interfere in our intimacy. Even if we aren't, you'll always be an outsider and have no right to criticize us." He leaned down close to Budney, but still looked down at him, his eyes revealing arrogance and boastful pride. "Forget about it. Just be your womanizer."
Don't think he can't see the beautiful women surrounding the fox-orc; their scents are all distinct.
Boudni had no interest in the embarrassment of having his thoughts exposed; he only felt disgust for the morally bankrupt, lawless, and utterly devoid of any sense of order or morality maneuvering man before him.
He closed his eyes, trying to calm himself down, and said in a low voice, "Precisely because I am an outsider, I am more qualified to judge your relationship. Byrne, you actually know better than I do."
“You seem to love him very much, but Byrne, it seems you’ve chosen the beautiful body over the beautiful soul.”
The seasoned love expert taught Boudni which angle to strike from to hit someone right where it hurts.
So he spoke without any hesitation.
"You've just taken advantage of your brotherly relationship, his naiveté, the fact that he currently depends on you to survive, and his gentle nature to make him obey you. This isn't love, Byrne; he may not actually want to love you."

Victoria: Wow... You really don't know your own strength when you start talking, you're so harsh.
Madonna (silently covering Reinhardt's eyes): Come on, let's go get something to eat over there.
