Chapter 182 Betrayal: The First Desperate Situation

As Yun Zhe had predicted, Kurman did not wait for those uncertain two days but set off on time. However, when Yun Zhe arrived at Dorgnitzburg with the supply convoy, he felt extremely uncomfortable. The Donic family flag still flew over the castle, but the soldiers guarding it had all been replaced by strangers he did not recognize. A strange and tense atmosphere permeated the surroundings.

"Halt! Who goes there!" The soldiers at the gate stared nervously at the convoy in front of them, their long spears unconsciously raised.

Lao Xi, who was in charge of transporting supplies, jumped off the carriage and approached the two guards with a grin. "You two don't look familiar. I'm delivering supplies to the troops. Alas, things haven't been peaceful lately. Could you please inform them? Here's a small token of my appreciation. It's freezing cold, so it'll be good to warm you up." As he spoke, Lao Xi took out two wine fruits and handed them to the two men.

The two guards exchanged glances, then accepted the wine and fruit. However, their expressions remained serious; they watched the convoy with even greater caution. They hesitated, taking no further action for the moment.

When Yunzhe saw the carriage caravan stop, he jumped off the carriage and walked straight toward the gate.

Laucee turned around and saw Yun Zhe walking towards him. Then he looked at the two unfamiliar guards in front of him, frowned, and asked, "Gentlemen, where are the soldiers guarding this place? They're the Aruru mercenaries... Oh, the Donic family's soldiers? I haven't seen them."

"ah?"

"this?"

The two guards looked at each other, becoming even more nervous. "They, they've followed suit and attacked. Wait a minute, I'll go and inform them." One of the guards stuffed the wine and fruit into the other's hand and then ran into the castle.

Lausch instinctively sensed something was wrong, but couldn't quite put his finger on it; the two guards' answers were clearly perfunctory. But why were they so nervous?

"What's wrong, Lao Xi?" Yun Zhe came to Lao Xi's side and asked in a low voice.

“Oh, Lord Yun Zhe,” Lao Xi glanced at the guard who was staring at them and pulled Yun Zhe back to his carriage. “My lord, I feel there are some problems, but it’s hard to say.”

Yun Zhe turned to look at the guard, then gestured for Lao Xi to continue.

"My lord, I feel like these two guards are hiding something. They just mentioned that the troops guarding the city went on the expedition. Something doesn't seem right."

Yun Zhe nodded. "I'll go ask. You and your men tighten the ropes and be careful not to spill the goods."

Lao Xi was stunned for a moment after hearing this, and looked at Yun Zhe in confusion, "Sir, is it that serious?"

"Tighten the rope" and "Don't spill the goods" were both code words used by the grain transport troops, meaning to be on high alert and prepare to flee. Yun Zhe's words at this moment clearly indicated that he had already prepared for the worst.

"It's not certain yet. Let me go ask. It's okay if we're being paranoid. After all, it's necessary to be vigilant during wartime." With that, Yun Zhe walked over to the guard and started chatting.

"The general said the transport convoy can enter the city!" The soldier who delivered the message returned, panting, but there was no sign of relief in his eyes.

Yun Zhe nodded, smiling as he looked at the wine and fruit in their hands. "You two should eat quickly, or they won't taste good if they get cold." With that, he returned to Lao Xi's side.

"Lao Xi, the original plan is to prepare for evacuation. Try to preserve your belongings as much as possible, and if all else fails, save your people," Yun Zhe said in a low voice after returning.

Lao Xi was a little confused. What was going on?

“Don’t you find it strange? Since they’ve already followed us, why are they still asking us for daily supplies? Shouldn’t they have stopped transporting them? And besides, why would they even go on an expedition in the first place? Leaving the city’s defenses to others isn’t Mobik’s style!” Yun Zhe said as he walked away. “I won’t say anything else, let’s just run first.”

Lao Xi nodded, then made a subtle gesture.

Upon seeing this gesture, all the coachmen began to untie their horses, and the soldiers following behind began to gather on the carriages behind them.

Yun Zhe naturally sensed something was wrong, but more importantly, he had learned the general truth of the matter by talking to the guards. The soldiers guarding Dorgnitzburg had not gone to war with them, but had all been executed. Mobik was also dead, and his body was even placed outside the south wall to lure the fleeing soldiers to come and then capture them all.

More importantly, based on the ideas in the minds of the returning soldiers, they planned to lure the grain convoy into the city and deal with them together.

But the Marquis of Kurman betrayed them, completely siding with Belvador. This news was the most shocking and important.

The Donic supply convoy's actions attracted the attention of the guards. Realizing they weren't planning to enter the city, they immediately shouted for help. A dense hail of arrows rained down from the city walls, killing many soldiers before they could even react. Yun Zhe drew his longsword and, protecting Lao Xi, ran to the last carriage. The carriage had already turned around, carrying a dozen or so infantrymen.

"Run!" Yun Zhe gave the order, and the carriage sped away.

But the other carriages and soldiers were not so lucky. Many horses and soldiers were shot down on the road and on their backs. Only half of the soldiers managed to escape the range of the arrows. And what made them even more desperate was that behind them, a troop of fully armed cavalry was galloping towards them at breakneck speed.

The carriage was too crowded to move quickly, and the other soldiers scattered and fled, unable to form even a shred of fighting power.

Yun Zhe drew his crossbow and shot several men dead. He could only draw his longsword and run while maneuvering against the cavalry.

The carriage was already surrounded by cavalry. Yun Zhe looked at the carriage, completely surrounded by the horses, and knew he was powerless to save it. As for the soldiers who were scattering and fleeing all over the mountains and plains, they were like frightened birds, with no possibility of being organized.
