Sancho stood at the edge of the woods, anxiously looking towards the open space to the south.
Yunzhe said he would be right back, and no one dared to ask where he was going, but "just going" probably didn't mean he wouldn't be seen all night.
Elke Hawthorne and his group met and discussed the matter, deciding to send a squad of soldiers to scout the surrounding area. Based on their deduction, they figured Yun Zhe was most likely conducting reconnaissance towards the ferry crossing. Therefore, everyone's attention was focused on the north side of the forest, while Hawthorne was left alone to keep watch on the south side, just in case.
Time ticked by, the sky gradually brightened, and a thin mist rose through the woods. Sancho yawned, wondering if Yun Zhe had already returned from the north, but no one had told him yet, or if the person who told him was on their way. He hesitated, wondering if he should just go back.
Despite his thoughts, Sancho climbed to the treetop again and looked into the distance. This time, however, he saw a sight that puzzled him.
In the distance, a strange, indistinct shadow was approaching him.
The thing moved slowly, but it was not tall; it was very broad and seemed to be a person walking slowly toward him with outstretched arms.
Sancho was startled by this strange behavior. He rubbed his eyes and looked again, but the strange appearance was still the same.
It's rather short, so is it some kind of ferocious beast?! But if it's a ferocious beast, it's far too slow...
Lost in thought, Sancho climbed up to a higher branch, took down his longbow, and aimed.
The thing was getting closer and closer, the sky was getting brighter and brighter, and Sancho's breathing became more and more rapid.
Finally, Sancho's hands began to tremble. He jolted, quickly put down his bow and arrow, and even held his breath.
The thing finally pierced through the thin mist and appeared before Sancho.
When Sancho saw the monster clearly, he was stunned for a moment, and then tears streamed down his face.
That wasn't a monster, but Yun Zhe dragging that cross, slowly walking towards them step by step.
You don't need to look closely to know who the person on the cross is.
Sancho jumped down from the tree and ran towards Yun Zhe.
"My lord, my lord!" Sancho shouted, successfully attracting Yun Zhe's attention. Yun Zhe looked up and was somewhat surprised to see Sancho running towards him with tears streaming down his face.
"Sancho? What are you doing here?" Yun Zhe asked, panting and somewhat surprised.
Sancho did not answer, but instead put the cross on his own body, wanting to take the cross for Yun Zhe.
Then, unsurprisingly, he was pinned down. The weight of the two thick logs and Mobius far exceeded Sancho's expectations. If Yun Zhe hadn't caught the cross in time, Sancho would have been crushed to the ground.
"Sir, did you carry this all the way back from Dorgnitzburg?"
Yun Zhe grinned, "I'll carry it myself, you go and call some people..."
"Sir, aren't any pursuers chasing you as you carry this?" Sancho interrupted Yun Zhe nervously, looking at the long scratches left by the base of the cross. If someone with ulterior motives followed, wouldn't the entire camp be discovered?
Yun Zhe shook his head. "Don't worry." At this point, Yun Zhe suddenly became depressed. "I have already wiped out all the enemies in Dorgnitzburg."
Sancho was taken aback, clearly not following Yun Zhe's logic.
Yun Zhe meant that he single-handedly wiped out all the enemies in Fort Dorgnitz?
Sancho looked Yun Zhe up and down. His clothes were covered in bloodstains and burn marks, as well as many holes and scratches.
"My lord...my lord is amazing!" Sancho, unable to find any words to describe it, gave a dry thumbs up.
Yun Zhe grinned slightly, ignoring Sancho, and continued walking into the forest, dragging the cross. But his thoughts drifted back to the previous night.
Last night, when Yun Zhe finally regained full consciousness, there wasn't a single living person left in the entire city of Dorgnitzburg.
To his utter surprise, what finally woke him up was the image of his old school's flag.
When Yun Zhe regained consciousness, he panicked and rushed out of the castle several times to chase after the fleeing soldiers. However, he soon realized that this method was meaningless; he could never capture and kill all the soldiers.
Filled with regret and resentment, Yun Zhe frantically ran around the castle. Finally, he gradually calmed down.
Yun Zhe stopped trying to pursue the fleeing soldiers and began to check on the soldiers who had fallen in the castle.
There were probably sixty or seventy people who died in horrific ways, clearly killed after losing control, but most died of natural causes, and a few were even trampled to death or fell to their deaths.
Yun Zhe sorted out his thoughts and did not deal with the gruesome corpses. Instead, he gathered the bodies of several leaders together, made several simple crosses out of wooden sticks, and nailed the bodies to them one by one, placing them at the south gate of the castle.
Then Yun Zhe returned to the castle and gathered all the gruesome corpses together, burning them to ashes.
Yun Zhe walked to the place that looked exactly like the school flag again. As the light and shadow changed, the shapes formed by the shadows of the stones and walls no longer resembled the Avery school flag.
Yun Zhe adjusted the flag several times until he could no longer see it, and then he left the place reluctantly.
Then Yun Zhe surveyed the castle and its vicinity again, and after confirming that no one was around, he picked up Mobik's cross and left step by step.
Before leaving, Yun Zhe left a message next to the corpses of the generals: "The Donic family does not accept apologies!" The words were written in charcoal on a wooden board. Yun Zhe thought for a long time and finally left only these few words.
Even now, Yun Zhe was still caught in a mix of regret and remorse, unable to shake it off for a long time.
It wasn't until the cross pressed down on Yun Zhe that the weight of the cross made him feel a little better. While thinking about the possible bad situations that might occur, Yun Zhe walked slowly, and before he knew it, he saw Sancho running towards him with tears streaming down his face.
Yun Zhe pulled himself out of these thoughts and looked at Sancho, who was standing to the side, looking bewildered and shocked.
"Go and inform the others. Our next goal is to return to Dorgnitzburg. Of course, I haven't cleaned up the place, so you'll all have a hard time there."
Sancho was momentarily speechless. He didn't really believe Yun Zhe's words, but the cross forced him to accept them. Although the reality before him wasn't terrible, Yun Zhe's strength still instilled a sense of fear in Sancho, despite his admiration.
Sancho nodded repeatedly, then walked away hesitantly. Watching Sancho's retreating figure, Yun Zhe couldn't help but sigh.
"It seems I'm going to have to portray myself as someone who can take on ten thousand men this time. This persona isn't good, and I'm sure it'll cause me a lot of trouble later."
While thinking to himself, Yun Zhe dragged the cross and slowly followed Sancho's pace.
