Chapter 196 Recruiting

Morrison slumped to the ground, already imagining the consequences of this news getting back.

This man before me is truly a devil. How could he use such methods to disrupt the morale of another's army?

Could it be that all of this was actually part of his plan?

Morrison felt a sense of unease. But after much thought, he finally realized he was overthinking things; what kind of person could possibly calculate for so long?

Yun Zhe touched the longsword in his hand, a gesture that instantly made Morrison realize that the chances of dealing with this Aluru here were even slimmer, because the Aluru had clearly become wary.

"You might not believe it, but I actually planned to deal with this traitor from the moment I launched my solo raid on this castle." Strictly speaking, what Yun Zhe said wasn't wrong, but he omitted some important information.

Upon hearing Yun Zhe's words, Morrison felt utterly dejected. He suddenly felt a sense of boredom; if all of this was just a scheme by this Aruru, then the war had become meaningless.

"But is all of this true?" Morrison suddenly realized that the man in front of him might also be lying to him, and if he was a vampire, then the possibility was even greater.

But Morrison quickly dismissed the idea, ceasing to struggle with it. In any case, continuing to dwell on the reality of the vampire and the veracity of his words was pointless.

The cheers outside gradually subsided. Clearly, some people had successfully broken through, while others had been locked up again.

"What exactly do you want?" Morrison took a deep breath to calm himself down, stared at Yun Zhe, and asked seriously.

“Actually, you know that Kurman has betrayed this country, but you just don’t want to admit it. All I want is for you to stand on my side.” Yun Zhe paused. “I have shown you my strength, my strategies, and my thoughts. So, what is your answer?”

Morrison fell silent. He had considered Yun Zhe's request once before, but had completely rejected it. The reason was simple: he had a blood feud with the soldiers currently defending the city. Could he really just surrender so easily? Clearly, things weren't that simple. But judging from Yun Zhe's words, if he surrendered to Yun Zhe, or rather, sided with Yun Zhe, he would be pardoned?

Yun Zhe remained silent; Morrison's concerns were also his own. However, he couldn't voice them now. While Yun Zhe was frank, he also knew that sometimes he couldn't be too blunt.

Morrison considered it for a moment, but still did not express his opinion. Besides having doubts about whether Yun Zhe could protect his safety, there was another reason: he still wanted to wait for definitive news of Marquis Kurman's rebellion.

Morrison smiled bitterly to himself, unable to explain why he was so insistent on this strange insistence.

After waiting for a while and learning of Morrison's thoughts, Yun Zhe did not continue to pressure Morrison, but left a message and left the basement.

"When Kurman comes to attack us, that will be the time when the Royal Army is destroyed. You will understand then."

Morrison sat back in his chair and remained silent instead of responding.

Elke's mission was accomplished admirably, though he inadvertently allowed over ten men to escape the castle. The remaining prisoners formed a human wall, successfully hindering Elke's soldiers' pursuit. This success greatly pleased the prisoners, who even began verbally mocking the guards.

Elke, who witnessed everything, sneered inwardly. He now fully understood Yun Zhe's intentions: to exploit personal panic to disrupt morale within the army. It was hard to say how effective it would be, but if it were, it would be devastating to the enemy.

This kind of war strategy was something he had never heard of before. At this moment, he was completely immersed in the excitement brought to him by this new way of fighting, so he was even more contemptuous of the reactions of the prisoners of war in front of him.

"Laugh, laugh, but you won't be laughing for long." As he thought this, he saw Yun Zhe coming out of the basement, so he quickly followed him and told him the results of tonight's events.

Yun Zhe nodded in satisfaction. "Let's not think about these things for now. Let's intensify our training. We don't have much time left."

Indeed, the shadow of war had already loomed over this land. So much so that when Leon Lund later recalled the war that autumn, even many years later, he would still be moved to tears and choke with emotion.
