Chaotic times are always the birthplace of heroes.
Amidst the chaos of battle, Blaze was among the first to notice the unpredictable movements of the Kurman cavalry. However, now a centurion, he remained calm and immediately ordered his troops to move towards Leon. In his experience, following the supreme commander was the best option during a rout. Or perhaps, this was also an opportunity for revenge.
But the rout came much faster than he had imagined. Before he could even fully convey the information to his soldiers, the defeat began from north to south.
Blaze was led by pikemen and other cavalry, and behind him were longbowmen and shield-wielders.
In the distance, Kurman's cavalrymen exuded murderous intent, while Belvado's cavalrymen glared menacingly.
Blazer could easily imagine what was about to happen: a tidal wave of soldiers would surge forward, completely shattering their formation and making them unable to move an inch, turning them into conspicuous targets in the eyes of the enemy archers.
In the critical moment, Blazer grabbed a flag, waved it, and shouted for his soldiers to follow him into the enemy lines.
It was a courageous choice, one praised by posterity. But only Blazer himself knew that he was utterly desperate, driven to madness by extreme fear. His thoughts at the time were completely different from what people later asked him, and from the analyses of posterity: he simply didn't want to be trapped by infantry and die a miserable death, didn't want to fall in this inexplicable place. But all hope and possibility had vanished. He didn't want it, yet he was helpless and powerless.
So he only wanted to die honorably on the road of the charge. As for avenging Lord Ars, unfortunately, that could only be done in the next life.
Blazer, resigned to his fate, planned to take his troops with him on the charge. It wasn't that he wanted to drag others down with him; it was simply that at this moment, he felt he couldn't let his brothers die such a pathetic death.
It's hard to say whether Blazer's soldiers felt the same way as Blazer, but in the chaotic battle formation, if someone clearly gives you an order, and that person is a superior you know, do you leave or not?
The defensive formation loosened, and Belvado's attacking side, eager for glory, also loosened their formation, giving Blaze the opportunity to break out. Ultimately, nearly three hundred cavalrymen followed Blaze and charged out of the lines. There was no other way; Blaze's banner was too high, too bright, too conspicuous. It was a golden banner, not his own, but that of some mercenary. Surrounded by chaos and fear, a so striking banner guiding you would naturally draw you in.
Blazer hadn't expected that waving that banner would attract so many people. He also realized that his three hundred-odd cavalrymen had become the most conspicuous focus on the battlefield, and if he didn't take action quickly, they would surely be met with a frenzied encirclement.
Amidst the loose formation of Belvedere, Blaze astutely spotted a massive high platform and a rather winding path leading to it.
There's no time to think anymore. Achieving great things, fighting to the death—none of that matters! When a path appears in your most desperate situation, even if it leads to a mountain of knives and a sea of fire, you'll still charge forward.
Blaze decisively waved the flag and charged forward along the winding, hidden path. The three hundred-odd cavalrymen hesitated for a moment, then followed suit.
This charge, aimed at killing Leonrenlang to avenge Ars, completely saved Leonrenlang's life.
Standing on the high platform were the commanders of this battle, Kruger, and the distinguished royal member, Yom Soy.
Yomsoui was the most ordinary member of the younger generation of the Belvedere royal Soi family. He was introverted, taciturn, and his martial arts and strategic skills were mediocre. His social skills were also questionable. Aside from his stunningly handsome face, which appealed to both men and women, it was difficult to find any other redeeming qualities in him. Oh, and one more thing: he had an older brother, Heidelberg, who was practically a carbon copy of him. Aside from his less-than-ideal appearance, Heidelberg was almost perfect, and also a strong contender for the throne.
Kruger, on the other hand, was a fat man with a large head and a kind face. Despite his benevolent appearance, he was the most ruthless and vicious of the three generals on this expedition. He had fought on the border between the two countries for many years, and his favorite pastime was to capture ambushing soldiers alive, release them, and then hunt them cruelly. For this reason, the border guards trembled with fear at the mere mention of his name.
At this time, of the 100,000 troops, apart from more than 20,000 following Marshal Manstein to guard Gularburg and another 10,000 elite cavalry following General Kelling for other purposes, the remaining 60,000 main force were all handed over to Kluge. This is why he dared to be so arrogant and confront Leon head-on.
As the golden banner billowed, leading three hundred cavalrymen out of formation to attack Kruger, Kruger was schemingly urging Yom to go down and join his personal guards to mop up the remaining enemy forces. However, the usually taciturn Yom remained unmoved, simply standing on the high platform pulled by a dozen or so oxen, watching the brave Belvedere army wreak havoc.
But something seemed amiss. While the Galician royal army appeared to have indeed collapsed, their own soldiers didn't seem to be in much better shape. The usually taciturn Yom pointed this out directly. Kruger, already displeased with him, assumed this military novice was trying to regain some face. Kruger tossed his head, pointing at the scattered soldiers of the Mela Empire, and sneered, "The enemy has collapsed. Maintaining formation would only waste our pursuit opportunity. Your Highness, rest assured, we have already won this battle completely."
Yom was not satisfied with the answer. He scanned the battlefield and seemed to have discovered something interesting: a large golden banner stood out and seemed to be getting closer and closer to him.
“General, I don’t recall our army having any golden banners,” Yom asked slowly. At that moment, he had no idea that the enemy troops were beneath that banner.
"Your Highness is too kind. We truly do not possess a golden banner." Kruger's mind was fixed on the opposing imperial banner. Watching the enemy's retreat, he felt an irresistible urge to charge forward and seize the flag. Unfortunately, Manstein had given him a strict order forbidding any high-ranking officer from leading the charge. Otherwise, he wouldn't be wasting his time dealing with this disappointing member of the royal family.
“General, look, that banner is getting closer and closer,” Yom gestured to Kruger. At this moment, he vaguely realized that something was wrong, but he still did not realize that the enemy cavalry was charging in front of him.
At the critical moment, thankfully Kruger took another look and hurriedly shouted an order.
"Guards! Guards!! Stop that cavalry! Stop them!!!"
