Chapter 213 Leave Chaos in the Neighboring Country

Compared to Blaze's emotional reaction and deep reflection, the soldiers were more relieved that the vampire wasn't targeting them. At the same time, they were more curious about how Shadowthorn had angered a vampire.

Yun Zhe also envied these soldiers with simple thoughts. What they thought about most every day was how to survive and make money, especially at this moment when there was no hope in this war.

Yun Zhe stood up, patted the dirt off his clothes, and said, "Don't think about it anymore. Go and get some rest. You'll stay with me tonight to keep watch."

Blazer was a little surprised. He didn't expect Yun Zhe to say such a thing. Shouldn't he continue talking about what just happened, or... say something inspiring?

"Okay, once you've decided on your choice, we'll set off as soon as the sun rises tomorrow." After saying this, Yun Zhe jumped off the house and headed towards the village entrance. There were two soldiers on duty there, and Yun Zhe seemed to say something to them.

Then Blazer wanted to jump off the house like Yun Zhe, but at the moment of jumping, he realized a problem. The house was a two-story house. Yun Zhe just jumped down like that, but it seemed impossible for him to jump down so casually.

Looking at Yun Zhe's figure under the torch, Blaze suddenly felt that this Aruru was indeed extraordinary; no wonder he dared to face the vampire alone.

Just as Yun Zhe was busily gathering intelligence on the battlefield, the siege of the capital finally began.

This siege wasn't actually Belvaldo's true intention; they wanted to besiege the city and lure in reinforcements. However, the awkward situation was that, apart from a relief force, no other troops came to support the capital. After several days of waiting, seeing that their high morale was useless and even at risk of dissipating, Yom and Kruger, after much deliberation, decided to use this gap in the defense to launch a probing attack.

Although it was just a probing attack, the momentum it created was exceptionally grand. Dozens of siege engines were lined up in a row, charging fiercely toward the main gate. Troops were also deployed to hold back the attack from the other three directions. With one side launching the main attack and the other three sides holding back, anyone who saw it would have thought it was a legitimate offensive.

This probing attack, like all probing attacks, was intended to test the strength of the enemy's defenses and identify any weaknesses. Unexpectedly, the city's defenses were riddled with flaws.

When this astonishing news reached Yom and Kruger, they could hardly believe it was true. Yom even suspected it was a trap to lure them in. But as their attacking force of less than five thousand men nearly captured the lower city, Yom finally believed that the enemy was genuinely unprepared, rather than harboring any conspiracy.

The only problem now is that, due to insufficient troops and a slow advance, although the lower city has been almost entirely occupied by Belvedere's soldiers, it is already getting dark. Everyone is quite hesitant about whether to continue the attack.

After all, a night siege was unprecedented, especially for an army like Belvaldo's that resisted magic.

Marquis Kurman, in particular, was experiencing a complex mix of emotions, his eyes shifting between sadness and brilliance. It was impossible to know what he was thinking.

"Attack the city! Attack the city tonight! Light the torches, set the blazing fire! Even if we have to demolish the lower city, we must take this city completely tonight!" Yom stood up abruptly, shouting as he looked at the hesitant generals before him.

The generals were puzzled by Yom's actions, as he seemed very different from the royal family they remembered. For a moment, they all subconsciously focused their attention on General Kruger.

Kruger, his enormous belly protruding, sat upright in a chair, his hands clasped together. He didn't speak, his mind constantly weighing the pros and cons of sending troops versus not sending troops. But clearly, he didn't have much time to think now.

Kruger abruptly stood up, looked at Yom, whose face clearly showed "I am utterly disappointed in the generals of Belvedere now," and said fiercely.

"Attack! Except for the reserves and garrison, commit everything to the attack! Just as His Highness said, even if it gets dark, we must use torches and flares to light up this land. Attack!!"

"Yes, sir!!" Seeing that Kruger had said so, the generals naturally had no more concerns and, after a shout in unison, they all walked out of the tent.

Marquis Kurman hesitated for a moment, but still followed closely behind the others and was the last to leave the tent.

After everyone had left, Kruger slumped into a chair, feeling, for the first time in his life, a sense of exhaustion and powerlessness after issuing the orders. He didn't even have the strength to leave the tent and personally organize the attack.

"Do you think we can do it?" Kruger hesitated for a moment before asking softly.

"My concern is not whether we will succeed or not, but what we should do after we capture the city."

Hearing this answer, Kruger perked up a bit. "So what do you plan to do?"

"Hmm... how about this, let's just plunder a bit, and then withdraw our troops."

"What?" Kruger jumped up from his chair in surprise, now fully alert.

"Your reaction is excellent, it has strengthened my decision. That's it, grab it and run, and it would be even better if we set it on fire on the way."

"You?!" Kruger was so angry he couldn't speak. He couldn't figure out what the man in front of him was thinking. If it weren't for the fact that this Yom was a member of the royal family, Kruger might have cut him down with his sword at this moment.

“Kruger, you need to broaden your horizons…” Yom patted Kruger on the shoulder, urging him back into his seat. Then he gave Kruger a scrutinizing look. “Tell me, should I explain this to you?”
