Chapter 215 The Human Heart Is Unpredictable

On the morning of the third day, the first batch of reconnaissance information was presented to Yun Zhe.

What puzzled Yun Zhe was the location of Belvaldo's main force. This was because the scouts had brought back two seemingly contradictory pieces of information.

One scout returned reporting that Belvaldo's forces were locked in a stalemate with the Royal Army's main force across the river, and that this standoff had lasted for quite some time. Another scout brought back information obtained from refugees that Galicia's capital had been besieged by Belvaldo's army, and that fierce fighting had broken out between the two sides.

Has Belvedere split up its forces?

Yun Zhe frowned; he particularly disliked this feeling of knowing something but not fully understanding it.

Just as Yun Zhe was repeatedly and carefully questioning the two scouts about what they had seen and heard, a fast horse galloped towards the village entrance.

Elke dismounted and handed a letter to Yun Zhe with a dejected expression. The letter remained unopened, but Yun Zhe already knew the catastrophic news from Elke's mind.

Yun Zhe unfolded the letter, on which was a line of messy handwriting: "The capital has been captured, and Sald is preparing to attack the capital."

The font was completely different from Serena's, but that didn't matter anymore. Obviously, the bad news had already spread, otherwise Elke and the others wouldn't have been able to hear the contents of the letter from the messenger.

Yun Zhe handed the letter to Blazer, who was standing next to him, and then asked Elke, "Have you heard any other news lately?"

Elke's expression darkened. After thinking for a moment, he said, "I heard from people that the capital was captured in a single day. Well... of course, that's just a rumor and can't be believed."

Yun Zhe nodded, thinking that this might not be a rumor. Now, one thing was certain: the team facing Lunlang across the river was definitely not Belvaldo's main force. But knowing this now was meaningless.

Yun Zhe took a deep breath, thinking that all he could do left was probably harass the enemy's supply lines. He figured he couldn't do anything more than that.

It's hard to imagine what will happen in the future. At this moment, the capital of a country has been occupied, so whether to negotiate or fight next is no longer up to the Galician royal family to decide.

Yun Zhe shook his head, unable to help but laugh at himself. Ever since becoming a baron, he had been thinking a bit too much. A slight smile crept onto Yun Zhe's face, which surprised everyone present.

They didn't think Yun Zhe had any bad intentions; their first thought was that Yun Zhe had come up with some new idea to deal with the Belvado army.

"My lord, what brilliant idea have you come up with?" Elke asked, his expression brightening considerably, with a hint of eagerness.

Yun Zhe paused for a moment, then looked at Elke's expectant eyes and suppressed the urge to tell the truth.

“I have an idea, but I need to think about it some more. There are many aspects that still need further consideration. By the way, Blaze,” Yun Zhe paused, “today’s reconnaissance will mainly focus on the direction of Ordorf and the capital. We don’t need to go to Gularburg.”

Blazer nodded after listening, then turned and went to assign tasks.

Yun Zhe pulled Elke back, "Don't be too pessimistic. The country may not necessarily be occupied by Belvedere. Occupying the capital and ruling the entire empire are two different things. Besides, there are still many dukes and marquises, and they have many armies that can continue to fight."

Elke nodded. What Yun Zhe said made sense, but Elke still thought of a terrible scenario: "What if the adults become traitors like Kurman?"

Yun Zhe was taken aback and speechless for a moment, unsure of how to comfort the young man in front of him.

Elke, however, recovered quickly. He smiled and realized that his words had indeed put people in a difficult position, so he began to comfort Yun Zhe.

Yun Zhe patted Elke on the shoulder, thought for a moment, and sighed.

"I'll go back with you later. This is indeed a big matter, and I'd like to hear everyone's opinions." After saying this, Yun Zhe returned to his house, left a note, thought for a moment, and then repeated his words in Elvish below the note. He then dismissed the guards and followed Elk back to Dorgnitzburg.

Things became more serious than Yun Zhe had imagined. The Belvado army's resounding victory had demoralized the Kurman soldiers, who clearly felt it was unwise to remain on the side of the losers. Others also noticed this shift in the Kurman soldiers' morale, and Cyrus and Gao, after discussing it, decided to disarm and imprison them. This naturally triggered chaos, leaving the belatedly aware Morrison in a state of extreme passivity and inner conflict.

Just as Morinson and Cyrus were about to start arguing, Yun Zhe returned to the castle. After learning what had happened, Yun Zhe couldn't help but feel a headache coming on. Although these Kurman soldiers were disloyal, detaining people without even a reasonable excuse was clearly just pushing them to rebel.

Yun Zhe stopped the two from arguing. "Morrison, come with me. Let's go see those soldiers. Gao and the others did do something inappropriate. I'll go talk to those brothers."

Yun Zhe was clearly on Morrison's side. Yun Zhe's attitude made Gao somewhat embarrassed and Cyrus somewhat annoyed. What bothered them even more was that Yun Zhe had refused to follow them.

Led by guards, Yun Zhe and Morrison arrived at the underground cell, where more than thirty soldiers were gathered together, seemingly discussing something.

Morrison had no idea what the soldiers were thinking, but Yun Zhe knew immediately.

Yun Zhe coughed lightly, startling the soldiers into silence. They looked at Yun Zhe with hostility, but when they saw Morrison beside him, they became puzzled.

"You've all been wronged," Yun Zhe said bluntly. He seemed oblivious to the soldiers' subtle grievances he had just sensed.

Yun Zhe's words won over the soldiers, and their hostility lessened considerably.

Yun Zhe walked to the vicinity of the prison door. "I know you all have some thoughts at this moment. After all, the news at this moment confirms that Count Kurman's choice was correct. It is clear that there is no bright future for you to continue following us."

Yun Zhe frankly expressed everyone's thoughts. The crowd looked at each other, agreeing but also feeling a little embarrassed and guilty.

"However, what I'm about to say might disappoint you all," Yun Zhe paused, and after seeing that everyone's minds were starting to stir again, he continued, "You may be able to reunite with your families when you go back, but you will eventually have to set foot on this land again. At that time, your lives may be out of your control."

Yun Zhe's words did not elicit agreement from the soldiers. They began to murmur among themselves, thinking that Yun Zhe was simply talking nonsense.

Even Morrison subconsciously shook his head; deep down, he also disagreed with Yun Zhe's analysis.

Seeing this, Yun Zhe was not anxious; instead, he immediately felt relieved.
