Whether to continue the attack or to retreat, that is the question.
Now, facing this dilemma were Reni and Vick. The moment they saw the mithril armor, they finally understood why Yun Zhe could continue fighting despite being struck by multiple swords. But if they gave up now, the purpose of their risky attack would be completely lost.
Indeed, with Hart, the mastermind behind poisoning and ambushes, dead, the two men responsible for drawing attention were unable to carry out the assassination as originally planned, nor did they have any new ideas. They could only hide in the village, waiting for an opportunity. Seeing Yun Zhe alone was their only chance.
"Rennie, those bastards are yours. Deal with them quickly and come back right away!" Vico wiped the sweat from his face and said fiercely.
René nodded, brandishing his greatsword as he charged toward the approaching militia. He was confident that these poorly trained soldiers were no match for him.
As he had initially thought, when he killed the fourth militiaman, the remaining militiamen lost the courage to continue their attack, simply holding their spears and swords and keeping a safe distance from René.
Renee gave a contemptuous smile. There were still seven people left. He adjusted his sword stance, preparing to kill them all in one go.
Then his heart sank – there was another person there!
He counted ten people the first time, but he had already killed four of them. How could there be seven more people in front of him?
Then, at the very back of that line of soldiers, he saw a stunningly beautiful face. In the dim firelight, the face was exceptionally radiant and captivating. But this beauty carried with it absolute danger and lethality.
Reni instinctively took a step back, and then his vision blurred as the face appeared right in front of him. Immediately following was a sharp pain in his neck, and then the pain became so intense that he lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground.
Meanwhile, Yun Zhe, while dealing with Vico, pondered whether to seize the opportunity to use his vampire powers to kill the man before him. However, Yun Zhe quickly realized that although the surrounding houses were completely dark, countless eyes were still watching them. This put Yun Zhe in a difficult position; he slowed his pace and was then struck by an axe.
This axe blow was quite powerful, shattering another piece of leather armor.
But this was Vico's last axe blow. The next second, a shadow appeared beside Vico, and then Vico was bitten down by that shadow.
Yun Zhe froze on the spot, because he was all too familiar with this figure—Akdina.
Yun Zhe hadn't expected things to end this way. He never imagined he would run into Akdina here, or be saved by her.
Yun Zhe approached Akdina, wanting to ask about her recent situation, but after leaving Viko behind, Akdina showed no intention of chatting with Yun Zhe. She glanced at Yun Zhe and then said indifferently, "All the assassinations should be over. I'm leaving. Goodbye." Then Akdina looked at the militiamen fleeing in the distance and gave a bitter and helpless smile.
“Akdina, don’t go, I need you,” Yun Zhe said hurriedly.
Akdina shook her head, wanting to say something, but remained silent. Seeing Akdina's bitter expression, Yun Zhe felt a pang of pain in his heart, and then sighed helplessly.
"Akdina, listen to me. If you don't want to stay with me, that's fine, but you must hurry back to your homeland and tell your family and people that the war against the elves is about to begin, and they should be prepared!"
Akdina looked shocked and confused, but the surrounding noise grew louder, and more and more people began to rush over. Yun Zhe looked around, then suddenly rushed over and grabbed Akdina's shoulders with both hands, looking directly at her anxiously and saying, "Go back, prepare to deal with the invasion. I'll explain many things to you another time. Hurry up!!"
This time, Yun Zhe wasn't sure if the bloodline suppression had been successful, but Akdina nodded doubtfully and turned to leave hesitantly.
Yun Zhe breathed a sigh of relief. In any case, he hoped that this would increase his chances of winning by a little bit.
As the torches drew closer, Tumani's men rushed to Yun Zhe's side. Seeing the horrific scene, the soldiers, unaware of the situation, quickly subdued Yun Zhe. Fortunately, Tumani only suffered leg paralysis, not complete loss of sensation. He kept shouting, finally ending the chaos at the scene.
Yun Zhe walked over to Tumani and examined the dagger. It appeared to be coated only with a paralyzing poison, not a lethal one. Relieved, Yun Zhe patted Tumani's shoulder reassuringly.
While the soldiers were cleaning up the bodies, Tumani whispered to Yun Zhe, "Sir, that one just now, it must have been a vampire, right..."
"Hmm, a vampire, but one who helped me before. I owe her a lot this time, otherwise, I might not be able to see you again."
Tumani was horrified. What shocked him even more was that Yun Zhe spoke of it so calmly, as if it were a normal thing.
"Don't be too surprised, it's all just a coincidence. I'll tell you more when I have the chance," Yun Zhe smiled, then got up to leave.
"My lord, are you all alone now?" Thinking of what Yun Zhe had just said, "I might never see you again," I instantly thought of this worst-case scenario.
"Ah," Yun Zhe sighed, "It's not that bad. There are still three wounded. I'll go get them. By the way, lend me a horse; that will be faster."
Philby led his troops for about two hours before seeing weapons, horses, and corpses scattered on the road.
Philby dismounted and, by the firelight, carefully observed the scene. The majority of the dead and wounded were mercenaries, about thirty in number, along with a dozen or so Aruru mercenaries. Clearly, another fierce battle had broken out between the two sides. Yun Zhe and Xi Xi's bodies were not found. While it couldn't be confirmed that they were safe, there was at least a glimmer of hope.
“Crossbow bolts, tripwires…” Philby pondered. It seemed Yun Zhe wasn't just waiting to be killed, but was taking the initiative. If he wouldn't choose such a risky move in Yun Zhe's situation, then given Yun Zhe's cautious nature, he certainly wouldn't choose this option. There was only one possibility: something must have happened that forced Yun Zhe to choose this method.
But Philby was completely baffled as to what had happened.
"Check the surroundings, Yun Zhe and the others might be here!" Philby signaled his men to spread out and search. In any case, luck was clearly on his side.
