Yun Zhe, who felt as if he had just closed his eyes when he was woken up again, was inevitably a little grumpy upon waking. He looked at the guard in front of him with some anger and asked, "What's wrong? Have Kurman and his men attacked?"
The guard, feeling a bit nervous under Yun Zhe's gaze, stammered, "Sir, the soldiers on the outskirts have spotted Kurman's army. They seem to have marched through the night and are now setting up camp outside the city."
Yun Zhe was startled, his emotions completely overwhelmed by the news. He looked up at the sky outside, which was still pitch black. "What time is it?"
"Reporting to you, sir, it's past four in the morning."
Yun Zhe pondered for a moment, then said, "Tell everyone to get some rest and prepare for battle tomorrow!" With that, Yun Zhe waved away the guards and lay back down to sleep.
A thin fog rose in the early morning and didn't dissipate until nearly noon. Morrison, who already knew that Kurman's army was at the city gates, was not as composed as Yun Zhe. He stood on the high wall of the city, watching from five in the morning until now, his heart conflicted, both hoping for the enemy's attack and fearing it.
However, after the fog dissipated, he could vaguely see the enemy's camp in the distance, but there were no troops coming or going, and the entire camp was as quiet as if everyone was sleeping.
Morrison was somewhat discouraged, then became a little nervous. Traveling all night, yet accomplishing nothing at the city walls—this was highly unusual.
The other party definitely had a conspiracy, although he couldn't yet figure out where it might be. Thinking of this, Morrison sighed even more, filled with worry.
"What are you complaining about? You're the one commanding on the front lines, and you're sighing like this. What will the soldiers think if they see you like this?" Yun Zhe's stern voice boomed in Morrison's ears.
Morrison was startled, then turned around and saw Yun Zhe's stern gaze.
“There’s no adult here. I just saw that the other side wasn’t making any moves and was thinking about their possible attack direction.” Morrison was both nervous and somewhat surprised, as Yun Zhe had almost never spoken so sharply before.
Yun Zhe's expression improved somewhat. "The enemy just arrived, why are they attacking already?"
Morrison suddenly realized that Yun Zhe's words made some sense, but he still couldn't help but ponder the question that had been nagging at him. If there was truly no rush to attack, then why had they traveled all night to get here?
Seeing that Morrison remained silent, Yun Zhe knew, even without mind-reading, that what Morrison was thinking was different from what he was saying. Yun Zhe remained outwardly calm, but inwardly he was delighted.
"If you were Kurman, how would you attack?" Yun Zhe asked, as if engaging in an academic discussion.
Morrison frowned, reviewing the entire defensive layout of the city walls. Fort Dorgnitz had built its walls along a relatively long drop in elevation. This was a natural barrier, and after recent reinforcements and repairs, it was generally in good condition. Unless the enemy attacked from the furthest points of the two walls...
Yun Zhe nodded. Although Morrison didn't say anything, Yun Zhe agreed with his line of thinking.
"My lord, I have an idea. Could the enemy bypass us and attack from Lord Philby's side?"
"Lord Philby won't let them come. You can rest assured about that." Yun Zhe understood Morrison's concerns, but still tried to get Morrison to say more with these lukewarm words.
“Oh, I’m not doubting Lord Philby. I’m just saying they could easily bypass this section of the wall and attack Lord Philby’s location, which is much easier to conquer. Besides, we might have been mistaken from the start; they might not even be after us at all…”
The last point was something Morrison suddenly thought of. He was even surprised by his own idea when he came up with it.
"Then why was he in such a hurry to come?" Yun Zhe asked again, increasingly satisfied.
Morrison stared at the cluster of tents in the distance for a long time, still unable to figure out what was going on. He simply said, "Sir, I really don't know. But what they're doing is indeed a bit hard to understand."
Yun Zhe smiled wryly to himself and couldn't help but shake his head. "Why don't we send a troop out to take a look, since we're not sure?"
Morrison's eyes widened in disbelief. "Sir, sir, you must be joking..."
Yun Zhe shrugged. "According to your thinking, if he really wants to take a detour to attack, then his main force definitely won't be here with us."
"No, that's not allowed..."
“Morrison, you said you couldn’t understand why they rushed here but didn’t attack. I think we can wait and see if they attack this afternoon.”
Morrison nodded. "That's the only way." But he still didn't understand what Yun Zhe meant by sending troops to investigate.
Yun Zhe chuckled. "Morrison, have you ever seen a street magic show? You know, the kind where they pull a rabbit out of a hat, or conjure something out of thin air."
Morrison was even more confused. What did all this have to do with anything? But he thought about it seriously and replied earnestly, "I have indeed seen it. Adults, especially when they were young, really liked it."
Yun Zhe nodded. "You should understand this kind of thing. The things that magicians show you are actually just things to attract your attention, like this large camp that suddenly appeared in front of us."
Morrison paused for a moment, then suddenly realized. "No wonder, no wonder, no wonder they appeared in such a hurry, but didn't attack at all."
Yun Zhe shrugged, thinking to himself, "They'll definitely attack; they're going to go all out." But he didn't say it aloud. Perhaps Morrison would understand better once the enemy attacked.
Yun Zhe patted Morrison on the shoulder, "Be prepared, we still can't let our guard down."
Morrison nodded. Now that he had sorted out the whole process, he felt much better and readily agreed to Yun Zhe's request.
Yun Zhe didn't say anything more, and turned to check on everyone's preparations along the city wall. But Morrison suddenly grabbed him.
"Sir, should we inform Lord Philby?"
Yun Zhe looked at Morrison with a puzzled expression. "What do you think?"
Morrison was taken aback, somewhat unable to decipher the meaning of Yun Zhe's words. He murmured, "We should notify them, shouldn't we? In this situation... in this situation... not notifying them isn't actually in our best interest..."
Yun Zhe gave a helpless smile. "You should be more determined. There's no need to hesitate about this kind of thing."
Morrison straightened up. "My lord, I will send someone to inform Lord Philby immediately."
Yun Zhe shook his head and said as he walked, "You don't need to worry. I've already sent someone to inform Philby. You can focus on setting up the city's defenses."
Morrison paused for a moment before realizing the meaning behind Yun Zhe's words.
