Chapter Twelve: The Old Man and the Moon

Yun Zhe spoke casually, but inside he was incredibly nervous. Actually, he was a bit carried away by the boy on horseback. The situation was urgent, and he was moved by the chubby boy's words. His mind wandered for a moment, and his body reacted honestly.

Yun Zhe was panicking. What if this family had a deep bond and, despite the tense situation, still considered family ties? Would they see him as the enemy who killed their loved ones? Now that he was trapped in enemy territory, with a vampire watching him like a hawk, he was probably doomed.

Once he calmed down, Yun Zhe's heart was pounding as he cautiously observed the reactions of the others.

He first saw the old man's face, a mixture of surprise and anger, then the little girl and her mother embracing each other and weeping uncontrollably, and then the other soldiers' bewildered or helpless expressions.

Yun Zhe turned around, and the soldiers inside the gate also saw the strange scene. The archers lowered their bows and arrows, and the shield-wielders put away their shields.

The old man strode forward and walked to the side of the fallen Stone. The two knights beside Stone initially wanted to draw their swords, but they were clearly intimidated by the old man's imposing presence and silently took a step back.

The old man picked up his fallen son, examining his wounds, his heart filled with complex emotions. When his son first brought up that idea that afternoon, the old man knew the family was about to tear apart and bleed, but he refused to see it happen. So he decided to tie his son up and put him under house arrest, even if it offended the Lunlang family. After all, even without this son incident, he was bound to clash with the Lunlang family sooner or later; it was just a matter of time.

However, things still developed in a way that exceeded his expectations.

The son fought desperately to escape, then led his troops to attack the castle, seemingly intending to imprison him. When he learned that his son had hidden an army of 150 men, he aged instantly.

No one knows a son better than his father, and he knew all too well what these 150 people did.

But now, this ambitious child lay in his arms, a crossbow bolt embedded in his chest, blood trickling from his mouth, clutching his arm tightly, his eyes filled with resentment, anger, and confusion…

The only thing missing is the affectionate reunion of father and son...

The old man sighed deeply, tears streaming down his face.

"You killed my brother..." came Wood's incredulous voice from horseback.

"I saved your life!" Yun Zhe's voice was hoarse and unfamiliar, even startling Yun Zhe himself.

Yun Zhe looked around, and the soldiers all showed relieved expressions, looking at him with a hint of gratitude. While Yun Zhe might not have saved the lives of these nobles, he had certainly saved theirs.

Stone may be forgiving of his family, but he will only show his forgivingness after all the soldiers have fallen.

But how will the Paz family deal with this stranger?

Yun Zhe could feel the burning gaze from the icy blue eyes behind him, and hear the crackling of the torches around him. He could even sense the old man's inner turmoil as he faced him.

The old man looked at the two knights, who immediately took off their helmets and knelt down.

They were indeed loyal to Stone, but they were also knights of House Pass. With Stone dead, they had no reason to continue fighting. After all, they could have helped the new king ascend the throne, while they themselves were not qualified.

The situation was reversed by a single arrow.

With their swords sheathed, the two knights followed the old man to Yun Zhe, their steps steady and their killing intent palpable.

"Who are you?" The old man's voice was hoarse, his tone weary. Behind him, two knights gripped their sword hilts, staring intently at the slightly shorter Yun Zhe.

Yun Zhe pointed behind him, "We have an agreement with the people who protect him."

The old man looked at Wood on horseback with a stern gaze.

Wood panicked and hurriedly recounted the ambush he encountered on his way back, but remained silent about why he ran away as soon as the sun went down.

Wood's words surprised everyone around him, as they had always thought the brothers had a very good relationship.

The two knights were a little embarrassed. They seemed to have realized the crux of the matter and silently lowered their hands from the sword hilts.

The old man's eyes were bloodshot, and anger surged within him. "Are you sure you're your brother's man? Kid, you need to think this through!" The old man's voice suddenly rose, and the oppressive atmosphere instantly intensified.

Wood lay sprawled on the horse's back, sweat dripping from his cheeks onto the ground.

“I’m sure those two are hunters, they’re always with my brother…” Wood said softly.

"Enough!" the old man interrupted Wood angrily. He turned and strode out of the doorway, standing in the courtyard to calm himself.

He had assumed Stone would do the same, simply imprisoning them. It was this thought that had led him to consider surrendering. It was this thought that made him unable to forgive the man before him for shooting Stone. But if Wood was telling the truth, then he was utterly wrong; his eldest son might not have intended to let them live tonight.

The old man was filled with grief. He desperately hoped that Wood was lying, because if he was, then he could rightfully kill the man who had killed his son.

But that's not it, that's not it at all...

The girl behind Yun Zhe walked forward slowly and said in a loud voice, "Lord Pas, I have something to say about Miss Alice."

The woman and the little girl both turned their gaze to the girl, and the little girl whispered, "Ellie, Miss Ellie, what's wrong with my sister?"

Ellie glanced at the little girl and gave her a big smile. Then she walked over to the old man and whispered in his ear.
