“It’s quite interesting that they won’t let us send troops… they’re only letting us replenish our food and medicine. Isn’t that ostracizing us?” A tall, thin young man spoke first.
“I think this could be a very bad situation. It means that your brother has become suspicious of you, and he may very well have completely taken control of Donic’s future duke.” The speaker was a middle-aged man with a wealthy appearance, whose hands were covered with rings, giving him an air of nobility.
"I think this is a good thing. Let them fight it out. We'll continue to stockpile supplies and use this war to see the situation clearly," the pale-faced, short old man shouted in a high-pitched voice.
"The Donic family is doomed. I heard that the daughter of the Lunlang family has married into the royal family, and is the most favored second prince. This is why the Lunlang family is so fearless. Lord, we must make a choice with your brother in time. If we wait until this war ends, it may be too late..." A middle-aged man in red clothes, who was balding, was holding several notes in his hand and said confidently.
Everyone chimed in with their own opinions, each seemingly offering the same reasoning: "My lord, Donic's ship is sinking. You'd better be wise and lead us to Lunlang's ship." The only difference might be how and when to surrender.
"My lord!" a trusted confidant with a scar on his forehead suddenly shouted, "Let's make our move! While your brother has mobilized all his forces, let's storm the walls of Pas and snatch back that thirteen-year-old girl. That way, with the leverage in hand, no matter how the situation changes, it will be to our advantage. Give the order now, and I'll set off tonight."
These words finally moved Sind. He stroked his beard with one hand and tapped the armrest of his chair with the other, wanting to agree to the suggestion.
"Report, my lord, here is a letter for you, written by your brother."
Another letter?
One of Sind's trusted men quickly handed him the letter. Sind gently tore it open, read it for a long time, and sighed. "Tyron, I think your plan won't work," he said, then threw the letter in front of the man with the scar on his head.
Tyron picked up the letter, read it, and suddenly felt an urge to tear it to shreds. But then he realized that doing so would be very inappropriate, so he suppressed his displeasure and threw the letter to the others to read.
“My brother invited me to his camp. The future Earl of Donic is there too.” Sind smiled wryly. For the first time in many years, he felt that his brother was not a reckless fool.
Andrew looked at Yun Zhe, who was sitting in a corner of the tent, carefully wiping his black-sheathed longsword, and finally couldn't help but ask, "Why did you invite my brother to sit in the tent?"
“I’m worried. I think you two should have an open and honest talk. What if your brother really has some ulterior motives? Wouldn’t our expedition be extremely dangerous? I don’t want to go there and never return, dying far from home.”
Andrew snorted. He was very displeased with the sarcastic tone in Yun Zhe's words, but considering his brother's recent behavior, it was hard to say that he hadn't already sided with the Lunlang family.
"What if my brother doesn't come?"
"Send troops tonight and occupy Jialai," Yun Zhe said without hesitation.
"You!" Andrew suddenly stood up, wanting to kill the Aruru man in front of him with a sword.
"Are you worried about not being able to win?" Yun Zhe looked at Andrew strangely, then exaggeratedly said with feigned surprise, "No way, no way, you don't actually care about your relationship with your brother, do you?"
Andrew slumped back into his chair.
"Of course, you can also tie up Serena now, kill me, and go to your brother to join the Lunlang family. Then you can divide this land among yourselves. You have Serena, which is your biggest bargaining chip, so you will naturally get the lion's share."
Andrew suddenly looked up at Yun Zhe, "Are you crazy? Or is this also a test from you?"
“This wasn’t a test; I was just pointing you in an easy way. However…” Yun Zhe stopped, seeing Andrew’s angry expression.
"However, the easy path often yields little reward or good results."
After hearing this, Andrew slowly narrowed his eyes. "Aruru, for the first time, I feel that your ambition is even greater than mine..."
"To truly connect, you need sincerity to receive sincerity in return. However, you have misunderstood me. My ambition is nothing more than a thousand gold coins."
"Hmph, it's only a thousand gold coins for now."
"I dare not think that far ahead. Someone is coming; it should be your personal guards." Yun Zhe carefully sheathed his longsword and stood up to the side.
Sure enough, as soon as Yun Zhe finished speaking, a guard walked in with a letter.
Andrew opened the letter, then immediately closed it again.
“My brother agreed to come. He also said he wanted to meet the Countess and clear up the misunderstanding.”
Yun Zhe nodded, meaning there was still more to discuss, but he wouldn't participate. He thought, "I'm sure you're better at persuading your brother than I am."
Yun Zhe stepped out of the tent. "Oh, and please don't mention me. Also, please tell the Earl."
Sinde arrived at the banquet with dozens of truckloads of supplies as a gesture of goodwill. His purpose was simple: he wanted to appease his brother first. If he refused, his brother might attack the city, leaving him with no recourse. Then he wanted to gauge his brother's attitude and thoughts. If they were birds of a feather, cooperation was possible. If his brother was truly determined to be a loyal subject, then it wouldn't be too late to make further plans.
After all, there's still time for a meal.
Yun Zhe didn't need to attend the banquet; he already knew the other party's thoughts. At this moment, he was hiding in his own tent, studying a map. Although he was confident in his plan to attack the enemy's backyard and force them to return to defend, it all depended on the opponent's response. If the other party didn't cooperate, then this whole charade would be for nothing. Yun Zhe wasn't sure what the other party was thinking, and he was still somewhat flustered.
