As night deepened, the Aruru people moved swiftly through the forests outside Bahrain.
On a tree, Rosen licked his lips, staring at the winding procession before him, his white teeth flashing with excitement.
Rosen was a man of misfortune. Before becoming a vampire, he was an honest, hardworking farmer in Nernnis, now the outskirts of Bahrain. He toiled lazily on his small plot of land, constantly nagging his parents and relatives. He had tried, he had been diligent, and even won a beautiful wife because of his hard work. But shortly after their marriage, she took all his valuables and ran off with a wandering poet. Because of this, he became the biggest laughingstock in the village, even surpassing for some of the unfortunate fifty-year-old unmarried men in the same village.
But Rosen endured it; he had no choice but to. He still had a few acres of land and a dilapidated house. Was he really going to abandon all of that for the sake of so-called face and chase after that despicable couple to the ends of the earth?
Even if he caught up with them, so what? Rosen was confident he didn't have the courage to kill them all.
Since becoming a vampire, Rosen rarely thought about these things, but for some reason, today he not only thought about them, but thought about them a lot.
The turning point came one evening.
That day, as usual, Rosen finished his work and squatted in the shade of a tree, waiting for the sun to set. Squatting there was a habit of his; he didn't want to go back with the villagers, as that would inevitably make him the center of attention. He was somewhat weary and angry, but he didn't want his powerless rage to shatter his peaceful day. So he always found a place to stay until they were busy eating and too preoccupied to come out, before going home to eat.
That evening was no different from any other day; the wind was light, the sun was setting, and the air was filled with the scent of fresh grass. Rosen was gazing into the distance, lost in thought, when suddenly a sexy, alluring woman walked gracefully towards him. The woman was so beautiful and captivating that Rosen stared at her for a long time, unable to look away.
The woman, seeing Rosen's expression, wasn't angry. She approached Rosen, her breath sweet as orchids, and asked with a smile, "Hi, sir, how far is it from here to Nils?"
...
A henchman impatiently interrupted Rosen's recollection, "Boss, boss, they're about to cross the border!"
Rosen glared at his underling with displeasure, baring his teeth. He glanced around; the woods were filled with blood-red eyes.
"Have a party, you little ones!" Rosen raised his hands.
A dozen or so figures let out unrestrained howls. They jumped down from the trees and rushed towards the Aruru people.
Rosen didn't share the same impulse as his other underlings. It wasn't that he didn't crave blood; he was just used to being alone, just like those countless afternoons.
The Aruru people have considered many unexpected events and encountered many unexpected events. However, these unexpected events usually disappear after they reach that camp. Because once they reach that camp, there is no possibility of them not safely reaching their country.
But today seems to be an exception. They've been targeted by vampires. Even though they've always been considered inferior food on the vampire's menu.
Instinctively, they scattered and fled, or lay down and pretended to be dead, trying to escape this predicament.
The few remaining armed soldiers wanted to fight to protect their comrades, but they were all wiped out before they could do anything.
The vampires came prepared, eliminating all the soldiers in the first instance. Not only that, they also deployed ten vampires along the border, attacking from both sides to ensure none were lost.
These vampires, like wolves among sheep, didn't rush to devour them. Instead, they broke the sheep's leg bones, rendering them immobile. Then they tore open their throats and drank their blood.
They danced and ran through the crowd, breaking or tearing off the legs of some Aruru. When they got tired, they would grab one, suck its blood, and then continue.
The Aruru screamed, cried, and ran. The vampires, on the other hand, screamed excitedly, laughed wildly, and chased after them.
Tonight is a vampire's carnival party.
