Two arrows were fired at Yun Zhe first, but he skillfully dodged them. Then, Ars's loud curses and Tra's loud voice reassuring the soldiers came from below.
Yun Zhe touched his chest with lingering fear, then turned his head and saw the soldiers' expectant eyes.
They definitely need a fresh story to boost morale, and what Yun Zhe just said is the perfect story.
Yun Zhe shrugged. "The Ars family is definitely gone, but the Terra family is another story."
Although Andrew found Yun Zhe's honesty somewhat superfluous, the soldiers were moved by it. They felt that this was the truly reliable and truthful statement, much more palatable than the promise that reinforcements would arrive in an hour.
The soldiers' morale was miraculously boosted, and Yun Zhe couldn't figure out how everyone's emotions had changed for many years afterward.
Correspondingly, the soldiers of the Ars and Tra families began to have mixed feelings. Their eyes were filled with suspicion and distrust as they looked at their superiors and lords.
After all, it's possible that what the person above said was true, otherwise no one would be in such a hurry to shoot him. And their high-ranking lord would have ample reason to conceal this fact.
Trust and distrust are both strange feelings. The moment they arise, they actually determine people's future judgments, and these judgments are usually very difficult to change.
The soldiers raised their voices, put away their weapons, and began to surround their lord and officers, demanding a reasonable explanation.
Ars's approach was very simple: direct military suppression. He understood that saying anything now would be meaningless; they would remain suspicious. Only when they returned to the castle would their doubts be completely dispelled, which was impossible to achieve now. Therefore, what needed to be done was to reorganize the troops and use pressure to force these doubts into their stomachs. Once the war was over, these doubts would cease to be doubts and would quickly be diluted by victory.
Ars looked at Tra, who was still loudly explaining, with disdain, his heart filled with mockery for his stupidity.
Things didn't improve much, so the Lunlang family's soldiers weren't worried about the problem. However, they were caught in the middle of two groups of soldiers on the verge of exploding, and since they were outnumbered, they suddenly felt vulnerable and helpless.
The Ars family has already begun to fight tooth and nail. The Terra family is on the verge of spiraling out of control, while the Lunlang family, caught between the two, is becoming even more cautious.
A strange thing happened: the attack was stalled by Yun Zhe's words.
"Go quickly and inform the Earl; the situation here is complicated," a tall, burly knight from the Lunlang family grabbed a soldier and shouted the order. "Hurry! Be quick!"
The soldier nodded vigorously, then began the arduous task of squeezing out of the crowd.
"Notify the soldiers to deploy their shields to the flanks, ready for any unforeseen events." After the tall knight watched the soldier disappear into the crowd, he whispered an order to his squire, "This attack will likely be delayed. Prevent the soldiers on both sides from disrupting our formation."
However, his order was issued a little too late.
Unable to withstand the beating, the soldiers of the Arles family began to surge towards the center and the surrounding areas. Baron Arles, who had just been smug and thought himself to be decisive and efficient, instantly turned pale.
The movement of the Ars soldiers instantly caused the Lunlang family in the middle to crowd towards the Terra family. After only a brief period of chaos, a stampede ensued.
As chaos erupted, the soldiers of the Arles and Tra families, no longer in the mood for fighting, fled in panic. However, the passageways were already crowded with soldiers, and these additional soldiers moving against the flow of traffic exacerbated the congestion, leading to a fierce confrontation. On the side where the stampede occurred, the Lunlang and Tra families clashed. The Lunlang family, already seething with anger from the street fighting, began to aggressively encroach on the Tra family's space, while the Tra family's soldiers, trampled upon, fought back fiercely, instantly descending into chaos.
Andrew and Yunzhe looked through the firing port at the chaos below and felt a sense of relief.
"Prepare the bows and arrows! Prepare the bows and arrows!" Philby started yelling. But Yun Zhe stopped him.
"Don't shoot arrows, don't shoot arrows! If you shoot arrows, they'll find out where the real enemy is. Let them continue their chaos, don't worry about them. We're just stalling for time. The longer we stall, the better." Yun Zhe hugged Philby's waist, his voice almost pleading.
Philby hesitated. He really wanted to seize this opportunity to rush out and fight fiercely to avenge his fallen friend. But reason told him that Yun Zhe was right: let the enemy be in disarray; why remind them now?
Philby sighed, "When we launch our attack, I'll be the first to charge."
Yun Zhe nodded. Philby was clearly determined to die, so it seemed inappropriate to say anything at this point.
Yun Zhe only hoped that the chaos could last longer. However, Donic Castle was not a very large castle after all, and the chaos subsided in less than half an hour.
It was Leon Lunlang who quelled the chaos. Upon receiving the message, he rushed to the outer perimeter and saw the congestion and disorder in the two passageways, while heads moved intermittently through the firing ports on higher ground. Clearly, the other side was also enjoying the spectacle.
He ordered one of his trusted men to evacuate the soldiers from one of the passages. In reality, this meant ordering his own troops to withdraw. As a result, Ars's soldiers quickly poured out. This relieved the pressure on the Lunlang family's soldiers inside, and the chaos gradually subsided.
