Forty-Eight Forest Runners

Yun Zhe looked towards the banquet hall; there was someone there who would send out a dangerous signal. But a large-scale search was out of the question; otherwise, tonight would turn into a night of bloodshed. However, if Jia Lai's stability couldn't be guaranteed, then this military expedition would have no chance of victory.

Yun Zhe looked towards the outer perimeter of the camp, where there were seventy or eighty people who would rush in without any resistance. With his strength alone, it would be difficult for him to deal with them in such a short time.

One side is hard to find, and the other side is hard to deal with.

Yun Zhe stood by the fence, deeply troubled. But time was of the essence; he needed to make a quick decision. Find them, or kill them?

Of course, if these soldiers were mobilized and on high alert, things might turn around. But that's not easy either, as these soldiers and knights don't really trust Yun Zhe.

"I didn't expect to see you here." Yun Zhe turned around abruptly and saw that Serena was already standing behind him.

Yun Zhe was startled. He must have been so focused on his thoughts that he hadn't noticed his surroundings, which was why Serena had walked up behind him without him noticing.

"Why are you back? You should be at the banquet at this time," Yun Zhe asked absentmindedly, lost in thought.

"Hmph, I shouldn't have been at that banquet. I'm not really important tonight. Besides, I don't like these kinds of banquets anyway."

Yun Zhe's eyes lit up; he had finally come up with a solution to the problem.

"The moon is beautiful tonight, shall I take you for a walk?" Yun Zhe chuckled.

"Huh?" Serena looked Yun Zhe up and down, her eyes narrowing slightly. Only then did Yun Zhe notice that Serena's face was flushed and she reeked of alcohol.

"You've been drinking?!" Yun Zhe was quite surprised. In his mind, a thirteen-year-old was strictly forbidden from drinking alcohol.

Serena suddenly waved her hand, "I'm not drunk, I only had a little bit..."

“Perfect! The Earl is wandering around the camp drunk, all by himself, with no one else around?” Yun Zhe grabbed Serena without waiting for a reply. “Come on, since you’re not drunk, let’s go get some good drinks and I’ll tell you a story.”

"What story?" Serena shook her head, perking up. She didn't refuse, staring straight at Yun Zhe. Yun Zhe's heart skipped a beat as he looked at her, thinking, "This girl has grown up; she'll probably be a stunning beauty."

"Let me tell you a story about my origins," he said, then picked up Serena, jumped over the fence, and ran into the depths of the woods.

Upon seeing this, XiXi jumped up in surprise. She had actually been following Serena the whole time; she had only been observing the surroundings when, in the blink of an eye, Serena was carried away?! And by that wretched Aruru-man!

"You beast!" Xixi stomped her foot, ran to a guard, said a few words, and then hurriedly ran out.

The guards dared not delay and quickly brought this astonishing news to the banquet.

"Count, she's been kidnapped by that Aruru man!"

Andrew was shocked when he heard the news. While smiling and continuing to reminisce with his brother about the good old days, he ordered everyone who was able to go to find the Countess.

Before long, the entire camp was in high spirits. But this change naturally did not escape the notice of the shrewd Sind. He saw squads of soldiers walking out of their tents. Although they deliberately slowed down when passing the banquet tents, the tense atmosphere throughout the camp was still clearly palpable.

Sind wasn't sure if this was targeting him, although he had arranged for men to meet him and strengthened the city's defenses in preparation for his brother's feint. However, the number of people he brought to the camp was truly small.

Sind glanced at the sky and suggested that the banquet should end here tonight.

Andrew was happy to agree, and after a few polite exchanges, Sind led his entourage back to Garai.

Yun Zhe carried Serena, running at a leisurely pace. He didn't want to go too far, but he also couldn't get too close. He knew there was a little girl named Xixi following behind him, so he wasn't worried that they would really lose him. After walking for a while, he suddenly heard a soft snoring sound coming from his arms. Looking down, he saw that Serena had fallen asleep.

Yun Zhe couldn't help but smile bitterly.

The Nightfire mercenaries in the woods, seeing the commotion in the camp, were puzzled. Had they been discovered? Then one of their underlings said he saw a man carrying a woman jump out of the camp; perhaps one of their people was missing and they were searching for her.

The leader of Nightfire pondered for a moment, then immediately ordered, "Everyone, follow that man and intercept that woman."

The underlings, who were feeling bored in the bushes, immediately perked up upon hearing the order. They all rushed towards Yun Zhe's direction.

Yun Zhe heard a commotion and looked into the distance to see countless green lights rushing towards him. Yun Zhe was taken aback; these people were incredibly well-informed. He immediately turned to turn back, only to find that Ye Huo and the others had completely separated him from the camp.

"Little mage, little mage," Yun Zhe called out urgently, "I know you're nearby, come here quickly, do you have any of those flashing scrolls we used last time? We're surrounded, we really need them."

Xi Xi suddenly jumped out, "You bad thing, you're not with them?!"

"They can't offer you the price you requested, Miss. Hurry, time is of the essence."

"What do you mean you can't give me the price Miss offered? In other words, if the price is right, then you..." Xi Xi's eyes widened, and she stammered angrily.

"Sigh, what time is it now? I won't betray you, okay? Hurry up, it'll be too late if we miss this opportunity."
