Yun Zhe held the strip of cloth, lost in thought for a long time. He faced the seated Hamelin, looking at the cloth, then at Hamelin, then at the cloth again, then at Hamelin again. He repeated this several times. Finally, as if he had thought of something, Yun Zhe tossed the cloth to Ellie and went to stand in front of Hamelin.
"You know the vampire who attacked you? Do you have a grudge against him?" Yun Zhe asked in a low voice, looking at Hamelin who had a blank look in his eyes.
Hamelin ignored Yun Zhe, as she was lost in a strange reverie.
The cause of these thoughts was simple: in just one night, she was alone again. She hated this feeling, so much so that she was furious at her two children's incompetence, but she also knew that the real reason for her anger wasn't that.
Aside from Rosen, who was already dead, she never had a good impression of the remaining two children. One was muscular but simple-minded, and the other thought about dying if he wasn't given an order. Neither of them were as useful as Rosen.
But at this moment, or rather just now, she found herself worried about the two children. She worried whether one might commit suicide, and whether the other could escape the room next door.
Hamelin suddenly realized that what she hated most now was actually this version of herself with a weakness—a Hamelin who was no longer ruthless, but instead had ties and hesitations.
Hamelin suddenly woke up, and then she saw Yun Zhe sitting opposite her, and Ellie standing guard at the door with her back to them.
Hamelin's heart sank immediately.
“You recognize those vampires; clearly, they’re old friends visiting you,” Yun Zhe said again, noticing the gleam in Hamelin’s eyes.
Hamelin sat bolt upright, his eyes narrowing. "How did you know?"
Yun Zhe threw the strip of cloth in front of Hamelin. Hamelin picked it up, glanced at it, and then chuckled.
"They actually thought I'd risk my life for a dead elf? That's hilarious."
Yun Zhe watched as Hamelin tossed the strip of cloth onto the ground like a rag, then stood up. "I'm leaving. You can do whatever you want with Debini. I'm leaving this place."
Yun Zhe shook his head.
Hamelin paused for a moment, "If I leave, those vampires will leave too. Isn't that a good thing for you?"
“This is bad,” Yun Zhe said, looking at Hamelin. “My men are dead. We must get justice.”
"That's perfect. Debenny is yours now. Do with him however you like. He'll pay for his life, and I don't think he'll have any complaints."
Yun Zhe shook his head again.
"What exactly do you want?!" Hamelin's voice suddenly rose, and he said fiercely. Hamelin's voice startled Ellie, who drew a crossbow bolt and aimed it at Hamelin.
Yun Zhe gave Hamelin a deep look. "You're bluffing. You know you'll die if you go out now," Yun Zhe thought for a moment, "You're desperate."
Hamelin slumped back onto the bed. What Yun Zhe said wasn't entirely true. She did want to run, but not out of despair; she wanted to leave the sword and everything else with Yun Zhe and escape alone. This tactic of diverting trouble would at least slow down those two bastards. If Yun Zhe was lucky enough to kill the two vampires, she would be even safer, and might even be able to reclaim her sword. Or, getting rid of the sword altogether wouldn't be bad either.
Her plan was good, but did Yun Zhe know about it? She wasn't sure at the moment.
"You want to run away and leave this problem to me. No, no, no, or rather, this isn't just giving up, but this is actually your plan?" Yun Zhe's voice gradually turned cold as he said the last few words.
Hamelin lowered her head, looking extremely helpless and pained. But Yun Zhe didn't believe the woman's outward appearance.
"In short, we're all in the same boat now, so we'd better be honest with each other and work together, otherwise none of us will be happy in the end." Yun Zhe said, then stood up and paced around the room. "So, what exactly is going on with those two vampires? Let's talk about it first." After saying that, Yun Zhe looked at Hamelin's reaction.
Hamelin kept his head down and didn't say anything.
Yun Zhe wasn't in a hurry. He knew that Hamelin was currently having a difficult brainstorming session, trying to come up with a way to get away with it. However, if she remained determined to betray him, then the alliance was over. Perhaps Hamelin's head and that sword could make some new friends.
The room was deathly silent. Ellie looked at the two people, one standing and one sitting, and wanted to know what they were thinking. But since they were of the same kind, they couldn't sense each other. She could only stand anxiously at the door.
After a long while, Hamelin glanced up at Yun Zhe and found that he was also staring at her. She lowered her head again. But this time, she quickly relaxed and her tense demeanor dissipated. She slowly exhaled, "Okay, I admit I wanted to leave, but not to frame you. I genuinely wanted to leave and draw them all away. I just didn't think it through. You have to believe me."
Yun Zhe frowned slightly. If Hamelin hadn't said that, Yun Zhe wouldn't have thought too badly of her. But now that she said it, Yun Zhe was even more convinced that this woman had just tried to shift the blame.
Yun Zhe nodded, but he was already considering whether he should take action and deal with her now.
Hamelin sighed softly, sat up straight on the bed again, coughed lightly, and said, "Those two were originally a couple, both young vampires under two hundred years old. They were Count Hansback's most capable henchmen. They only failed once against me, so they must have suffered a lot of torment to be so angry."
With a clatter, Ellie's crossbow bolt fell to the ground. She stared blankly at Hamelin, her eyes filled with disbelief. "The Hansbach you mentioned, is he a one-eyed vampire? He used to be a pirate."
Hamelin was also stunned. She nodded, not expecting to encounter a vampire who knew Count Hansback here, after all, the Western Continent was so vast.
Hamelin nodded. "He was indeed one-eyed, but I've been gone for decades, so I'm not sure..."
Ellie's breathing quickened, and she looked at Yun Zhe with tears in her eyes.
Yun Zhe suddenly realized, could this Earl Buck be the vampire who transformed Ellie back then?
"How old is that Earl Buck?" Yun Zhe asked with a smile, blocking Hamelin's curious gaze.
Hamelin paused, “Between four hundred and five hundred years old, I suppose.” Hamelin said softly, “Ah, I attended his four hundred and fiftyth birthday celebration, so he would be 494 years old this year.”
Yun Zhe nodded. "At this age, it's alright."
