The wind is blowing in a favorable direction, which is advantageous for Yun Zhe to launch a fire attack. However, even a fire attack initiated on a whim requires preparation. But clearly, time is not on Yun Zhe's side.
Yun Zhe shared his idea with Philby, who thought it was brilliant, but there was only one problem: how to get the fire across.
Setting a fire on your side and letting the wind blow it across is obviously not a good idea. The grass and trees on the ground are still very green, so not only will it not catch fire, but it will also produce a lot of smoke, alerting the enemy in advance.
Yun Zhe arrived at the agreed-upon location to meet Ellie. He saw Ellie holding Usa on horseback, waiting for them to arrive.
Seeing this, Yun Zhe felt a warmth in his heart. He spurred his horse forward and patted Wu Sha's head.
“Usa, here’s a dagger for you. It’s an elven dagger, very powerful.” Then he took the standard saber from the elf and handed it to Ellie. “This elf’s bow isn’t as good as yours, so I won’t give it to you. But this saber is quite good; keep it for self-defense.”
Ellie took the saber. This was her first time encountering an elven saber. Compared to human sabers, elven sabers were wider and more exquisite in design and craftsmanship.
Unlike Usa's delighted expression, Ellie appeared more composed, though she couldn't hide her joy.
Yun Zhe patted Ellie on the shoulder again.
"Philby will send two carriages over later. You and the others will put the elf's body on the carriages, and keep all the armor and weapons safe."
Ellie nodded, then heard Yun Zhe say, "There are also the bodies of the two brothers. Collect their belongings and bury them on the spot."
"You...do you still have a war to fight?" Ellie suddenly realized and asked with concern.
Yun Zhe nodded, gave a wry smile, "We're going to set fires, but it might not work. Let's see." With that, Yun Zhe turned his horse around, signaled the soldiers to get ready, and then continued on his way.
A dozen or so people lined up in two rows and ran off into the distance in perfect unison.
Usa gripped the dagger tightly in her hand, looked up at Ellie, and asked, "When can I be with him?"
Ellie patted Usa's head, hugged her tighter, and whispered, "I think it will be soon, Usa."
The Elven prince was confident of victory, but to avoid unnecessary losses, he still intended to try to persuade the enemy to surrender, as was customary. Meanwhile, the Elven scouts brought unpleasant news: they had discovered human cavalry in the northern forest, and in considerable numbers.
Immediately afterwards, the elven forces to the north were attacked by the human forces. Serena and her allies, now surrounded, keenly noticed the chaos to the north and began to concentrate their forces for a fierce charge, hoping to take advantage of the confusion to break through the encirclement completely.
Yun Zhe and Philby also noticed the change in the elf formation. They glanced at each other, said nothing, and each led their small number of soldiers to charge into the elf encirclement.
Suddenly, the elven army was attacked from three sides. Despite their exceptional elite status and repeated victories, they were like martial arts masters caught in a hail of punches, losing their composure.
Enraged, Tandras hastily mounted his horse, preparing to lead his army in a counterattack. However, he was surrounded and dragged away by soldiers and generals, forced to retreat in a safe direction. Tandras struggled to his feet and ordered all troops to retreat in an orderly fashion. After a brief period of confusion, the elven soldiers responsible for the encirclement withdrew from the battlefield in an orderly manner, allowing the three human forces to merge together.
In the ensuing chaos, the elven forces suffered over a hundred casualties, marking their most devastating loss since the start of the war. The elven prince, deeply saddened by the defeat, first reflected on his own mistakes of underestimating the enemy and advancing rashly, as well as the inadequacy of his reconnaissance. The elves unanimously agreed that this setback was a premeditated act by the humans, a coordinated attack from within and without, but the soldiers' poor skills and mismanagement prevented it from achieving its intended effect.
However, contrary to the elves' expectations, the truth was that the army that had rushed from the north was not a long-laid ambush, but rather a routed army of Nurem. Like Serena and her companions, Nurem had suffered a crushing defeat in their battle against the elves and was retreating south. But, coincidentally, when they arrived here that afternoon, scouts informed them that a large number of elven and human soldiers were engaged in a fierce battle ahead, blocking their escape route.
Ahead lay a chaotic battle among the elves, and behind them, elven pursuers lurked. Comparing the two, Nyrent made a decision he would be grateful for for the rest of his life: to advance and rejoin the human forces.
By a twist of fate, he saved the Donic family from peril, earning the respect and trust of everyone, including Serena. Even as he left this world, he was grateful for the decision he made that afternoon.
After the human armies joined together, they headed southwest. Although the elves did not pursue them, they continued running until the moon was high in the sky before stopping. In the simple tent, Serena finally saw those familiar faces: Newrent, Philby, and Yunzhe. Seeing everyone's blood-stained and disheveled appearance, the young count suddenly couldn't hold back and burst into tears.
Everyone was stunned. Thinking about what they had experienced in the past few days, they couldn't help but feel sad. They looked at each other, and their faces were all very pale.
Serena stopped crying, wiped away her tears, looked at everyone, and asked them about their troop strength and their assessment of the current situation.
Black and Arthas looked at Nuremberg and his two companions, clearly wanting to hear their opinions first.
Nyrent cleared his throat. He was the greatest contributor today, but he knew this victory was merely a fluke. He altered his account of his thoughts, "Although our troops suffered heavy losses, on our way to Donic, we witnessed the Earl's perilous siege. So we assembled our troops, intending to launch a coordinated attack from within and without to rescue His Highness. However, the situation was urgent, and we acted without timely communication with Your Excellency. Fortunately, the outcome was good, and I hope Your Excellency can forgive us."
Philby felt even more ashamed and uneasy after hearing this, while Yun Zhe lowered his head, struggling to suppress his laughter.
However, everyone clearly appreciated Nurrent's actions today. After some polite words, Philby awkwardly apologized for his poor leadership, which led to the scattering of many residents and soldiers.
This is indeed a problem, but everyone knows it can't be blamed on Philby, because compared to his performance, everyone's was about the same, not much better.
Finally, it was Yun Zhe's turn. Serena's breathing quickened, while Blake, Arthas, and the others also tensed up slightly.
Yun Zhe had warned them long ago that the elves would attack, but despite their belief, they made no preparations whatsoever, resulting in a disastrous war and a series of defeats.
Moreover, setting aside this factor, the treatment of Yun Zhe was somewhat unfair at the time.
Feeling guilty makes one nervous. At this moment, Newton also turned his head slightly to look at Yun Zhe, very curious about what Yun Zhe would say.
