Looking at the dilapidated walls of Donic and the incredibly excited soldiers below, Andrew felt a sense of being deceived.
They were definitely fooled. If Yun Zhe hadn't kept urging them on, they certainly wouldn't have been able to hold out today, given the sheer number of people they had. Andrew was even more puzzled: how had they managed to hold out for so long?
He shared his doubts with his old friend, Philby.
Philby looked at the allied camp outside the castle with utter mockery. "They were quite the idiots the other day, their attack was a complete mess. Otherwise, they really wouldn't have been able to hold out until you arrived. Sigh, how did you get here so quickly? Did you get wind of it beforehand?"
"We received the news a little early, but the key is that we got there quickly." Andrew looked at Philby, who was covered in blood, and couldn't help but feel secretly glad that he had arrived quickly.
"Oh, so it's those carriages? That's a great idea, Andrew. I didn't realize you'd gotten so clever in the last few years." Philby, having survived the ordeal, was in a very good mood. He kept laughing as he spoke.
Andrew smiled and said, "This isn't what I was thinking. I'll introduce you to him later. Trust me, you'll be very surprised."
Philby was slightly taken aback. "You have such a smart person around you? I'd like to see. I'm looking forward to it."
"Putting that aside, how come you have so few people? I remember you had at least ten teams of a hundred men each."
Philby shrugged. "Where are the ten hundred-man squads? We've been besieged twice, and even then, we sent a squad to protect Miss, but we haven't heard from that squad either."
Andrew nodded and sighed helplessly.
"Old buddy, why are you sighing? We won! It's just a pity you all came to the city today. If we had charged out together, we probably would have already destroyed their camp."
"Don't say anything more. At least we've saved the castle, which is what I'm most worried about. Even if they launch a full-scale attack tomorrow, I think we can hold out until the main force arrives."
"There are troops too?!" Philby's eyes lit up instantly, and he patted Andrew's shoulder hard. "That's great! I thought there were only three or four hundred people."
"There are still ten teams of 100 people, but they will probably not be able to come for another three or four days. Actually, we are under a lot of pressure, and it will be very difficult to get through these three or four days."
"Are you regretting not killing more of them today?" Philby chuckled, looking at Andrew with a mocking expression.
Andrew waved his hand, looking helpless, and stopped talking. At this moment, Yun Zhe walked up to the two of them. He looked at Philby, who gasped.
"Gods help me, you're an Aruru?!" She then looked at Andrew with suspicion. "The surprise you mentioned isn't him, is it?"
This time it was Andrew's turn to smile jokingly, "Yeah, aren't you surprised?"
Yun Zhe sighed softly; he didn't want to be the center of attention in this kind of conversation.
"We're in big trouble," Yun Zhe said bluntly, successfully attracting the attention of both sides.
"What do you mean?" the two old knights asked at the same time.
“We haven’t inflicted any effective damage on the enemy today. Tomorrow, once they recover, they will definitely launch a doubled retaliatory attack. I just checked the castle walls, and they are practically destroyed. We can’t afford to continue this war of attrition. If we don’t completely defeat them tomorrow, we won’t be able to hold out until reinforcements arrive.”
"So, do you have any good ideas?" Philby asked. He actually understood the answer to this question, so he was looking forward to it, hoping that this Aruru who had surprised him would bring him another surprise.
Yun Zhe sighed, "This is the big problem I was talking about. I have absolutely no clue what to do. Do you guys have any good ideas?"
"Is it really impossible to defend anymore? I think there's still a chance." Andrew looked at the half-collapsed city wall and couldn't help but sigh, feeling that his words lacked confidence.
"I'm not sure if we can hold out for even a day, but even if we do, our casualties will be enormous. How many hundred-man squads does the enemy have? Twenty? I think about that. And we only have these soldiers. What's worse, we have no natural defenses to hold out against them. It's almost like fighting them on a plain."
Philby sighed; he understood that this was true. And he was at a loss for what to do.
As the sun began to rise and the mist dissipated, Yun Zhe could see the dilapidated, low-lying, and chaotically laid-out houses inside the castle through the half-collapsed city wall.
Yun Zhe's eyes lit up for a moment, then dimmed again.
"I have an idea, but I might have to evacuate everyone from the city tonight..."
"What?!" Andrew and Philby exclaimed in unison, looking at Yun Zhe in shock.
