As the sun began to set, the shadows grew longer and longer. Yun Zhe finally heard the long-awaited knock on the door.
Outside the door, Ellie stood with a slightly flushed face, carrying a small bag on her back and dragging a large bag. Seeing Yun Zhe open the door, she glared at him irritably and tossed the two bags onto the bed.
“Look, those are books,” Ellie pointed to the small bag, then to the large bag. “Those are crossbow bolts.”
"Is no one following me?" Yun Zhe glanced at the doorway twice, then closed it.
"No one followed, but there were quite a few onlookers," Ellie said irritably, sitting on a chair nearby.
Yun Zhe glanced at Ellie and thought she seemed to be in a good mood.
"I bet you've never seen such a beautiful girl like you carrying such a heavy sack before. The contrast is quite eye-catching. Haha, haha, hahaha."
Yun Zhe chuckled dryly, only to receive a big eye roll from Ellie.
Yun Zhe flipped through the books. They were all thin, and the printing and binding were rather rough, but each book had a hard wooden cover, which must be a feature unique to hardcover books.
"Why is it all praising humans? There's not a single description of elves?"
"Hmph, are you naive? Would anyone agree to write something like this?"
Yun Zhe sighed, "That's true, that's true. History is always written by the victors, so it's never objective. This principle seems to apply everywhere."
Fortunately, Yun Zhe was very satisfied with the crossbow bolts. Twenty bolts per bundle, six bundles in total.
"Finished inspecting the goods? Then I'm leaving." Ellie hesitated, wanting to say something more, but didn't speak.
"Don't rush, don't rush. I've been thinking about it today. I really want to help you, but I don't have the Sun Ring, which is hindering my actions. So I think we need to get the ring first."
A fleeting look of joy crossed Ellie's eyes, which quickly faded.
"What's wrong?" Yun Zhe asked, puzzled. Ellie's expression confused him.
"You can't help them. They won't believe you because you're an Aruru."
Anger flashed through Yun Zhe's mind, but he was stunned and didn't react at all.
"So what if I'm an Aruru?"
Looking at the confusion in Yun Zhe's eyes, Ellie felt a pang of heartache and sadness.
“You just woke up, and there are some things I didn’t have time to tell you. You might not know, but the Aluru people have established a nation, and they have formed an alliance with the elves. Because humans oppose the Aluru people’s establishment of a nation, so because of this, although war hasn’t been declared yet, but…” After saying this, Ellie slumped into the chair and looked cautiously at Yun Zhe.
“Those who are not of our kind must have different hearts, right?” Yun Zhe pondered for a moment, then nodded with a wry smile. “Well, well, the country has been established, hahaha, hahaha, no wonder you never told me about this.”
Yun Zhe recalled the words of the first old man he met, and Wood's attitude when he first recognized him as an Aruru. Everything seemed to become clear.
"Where are they...the ones who established the country?" Yun Zhe turned his back and began to tidy up his things.
"He trusts me, he trusts me so much!" Seeing that Yun Zhe didn't use his bloodline to suppress her, but instead spoke to her with his back turned, Ellie felt a surge of emotion. She recalled all the experiences she had shared with this older vampire, and a voice screamed in her heart: "He may be an Aluru, but he's a good person!" She suddenly wanted to assure the lord, to prove to him that this Aluru was trustworthy! However, Ellie's resolve faltered. She wasn't confident, not confident in persuading them, not confident in persuading everyone who had met him, and even less confident in persuading him to stay by her side.
Ellie shed tears without realizing it.
"It's in the southeast of the Elf Forest, but we don't know exactly where."
Silence. Utter silence. The atmosphere in the room was extremely oppressive.
After a long silence, Yun Zhe finally uttered, "You can go now," his voice filled with exhaustion.
Ellie wanted to say something more, but seeing Yun Zhe's back, which revealed utter exhaustion and loneliness, she couldn't help but shut her mouth and silently retreated.
"I even thought about this all day, and it turns out it's completely useless." Yun Zhe curled up on the bed, feeling empty inside, unsure whether it was disappointment, sadness, or a combination of both. This was the first time he had encountered something like this, and the first time he had felt this way.
He often overlooked his Aruru identity. In his way of life, nationality was not an issue, nor was race. Everyone interacted and lived together on an equal footing. He never thought that there would be such hatred and vigilance because of race.
In Yun Zhe's world, these are all outdated ideas from thousands of years ago...
Yun Zhe couldn't process such bluntness and malice for a moment.
Calm down, don't let your emotions override your thinking! The motto of the school, Avery, jumped into Yun Zhe's mind. Yun Zhe remembered this motto, which had a second half: Be careful not to let your thoughts extinguish your emotions! But at this moment, the first half seemed more useful, and it was useful enough.
Yun Zhe stood up and patted his cheeks with both hands. "I don't want to be a minister who supports the emperor, nor do I want to have any forbidden love with a vampire. What am I being sad about? So what if I'm looked down upon? So what if I'm distrusted? It's not like I'm the only Aruruman left in the world. We've established a country, so there are definitely many, many more like me. What's there to be depressed about?"
"However, it seems we need to plan our search for the Sun Ring separately."
Yun Zhe felt a little better. Looking around, he suddenly found the place somewhat repulsive. Unfortunately, he didn't have a Sun Ring, so although he was annoyed, he could only wait until the sun went down before leaving.
