Chapter 35 The Scavenger

Having figured out the trick, Lu Yu spent the whole night finding the coordination between jump shots and layups, and his hang time improved noticeably.

The Qingbei training base and Lixiang Villa are not far apart. Lu Yu couldn't sit still any longer; her blood was surging with excitement. She didn't take Xiao Zhong's car; instead, she pulled up the hood of her sweatshirt and prepared to walk home.

Along the way, Lu Yu unconsciously hummed a song, and occasionally took a deep breath to feel the air filling her lungs.

Amidst the chaotic mix of diverse voices on the street, one voice stood out clearly.

Autumn came early this year. Tomorrow I'll try my luck at a garbage dump further away. If I can find a few pieces of clothing, it'll keep me warm at night.

Lu Yu walked a few more steps and found the person who had spoken her heart under the bridge. It was an old woman with gray hair. She was sitting between two bundles of cardboard boxes, rummaging through the tattered scraps of paper one by one, her fingers looking dry and cracked.

Not far away, there was a slightly flat area with two large pieces of cardboard laid out, which looked like where an elderly scavenger slept.

Lu Yu sighed softly and walked towards the nearby 24-hour supermarket.

The supermarket only had two types of quilts, and they were placed on the top shelf.

Lu Yu tiptoed and tried, but couldn't reach the high quilt.

There were fewer supermarket staff at night. She looked around but couldn't find the pickup elevator. Instead, she met her unexpected savior.

Jiao Yuyin stood by the shelf, his expression inscrutable. The dark gray suit made him look much more gentle, and the matching plaid tie added a touch of elegance, making him look every bit the gentleman.

Why does this person always follow others silently without making a sound? I wonder how long they've been standing there mocking her.

Lu Yu cast a pleading look at him.

Her almond-shaped eyes sparkled.

Jiao Yuyin's expression showed a hint of annoyance. As he walked towards Lu Yu, he loosened his tie with one hand.

Lu Yu never expected that he would be so impatient when she just asked him for a favor.

"I don't need your help, I'll go find the ladder myself," Lu Yu said irritably.

As soon as she finished speaking, a tall figure stood before her, and her feigned imposing manner immediately crumbled.

Jiao Yuyin moved his lips. "Don't move."

After saying that, he put his arm around Lu Yu's shoulder and used the leverage to reach the top layer of the quilt on tiptoe.

The edge of the suit collar brushed against Lu Yu's cheek.

The aroma lingering around Lu Yu's nose includes not only patchouli but also raspberry.

That was the scent of shower gel, emanating from Jiao Yuyin's neck...

Lu Yu was startled and took a small step back.

The off-white quilt, square and light, slid off the shelf in a transparent tote bag.

Jiao Yuyin's hand, as if by nerve reflex, reached out to catch the falling blanket.

The soft white blanket fell into Lu Yu's arms.

The soft, white taro was pulled into Jiao Yuyin's arms...

Before Lu Yu could react, Jiao Yuyin dodged backward as if he had been electrocuted.

Seeing Jiao Yuyin's eagerness to avoid him, Lu Yu secretly pursed her lips.

"Thanks. Weren't you at a charity gala today? You're back so early?" Lu Yu walked towards the cashier, carrying her blanket.

Jiao Yuyin followed behind Lu Yu and summarized the charity gala dinner tonight with a series of four-character idioms.

"Their elaborate displays of beauty and ostentation, their heavy makeup and glamorous displays, have left me feeling annoyed and disoriented, so I'm heading home."

“.….”

Lu Yu was speechless and muttered under her breath, "The Third Young Master is really hard to please."

Is it difficult?

Jiao Yuyin's voice was very low, and Lu Yu didn't hear it clearly. She kept walking and only showed Jiao Yuyin the back of his head.

Lu Yu naturally didn't see Jiao Yuyin's self-deprecating smile behind her.

...

"Beep! Three hundred and twenty-nine yuan." The cash register announced the amount.

Jiao Yuyin stretched out his long arm and placed his phone over the payment QR code area.

"Beep! Payment successful."

Lu Yu, holding the quilt, turned her head and said, "You don't need to pay for this. The quilt... wasn't bought here."

"I know."

Lu Yu's eyes widened again. "You know that? You've been following me for so long, can you stop stalking me like a ghost, little brother?"

“Older than you, thanks.” Jiao Yuyin glanced at Lu Yu and said, “No one’s home, I don’t want to go home… I was just taking a walk and ran into a fool staring at the bridge arch, so I just followed him around.”

Who are you calling stupid?

Jiao Yuyin snorted. "So you enjoy helping others, huh? I almost thought you were going to take someone home this time."

“I can’t ignore what you’re saying, but I can only offer help to the best of my ability. I’m not a saint, bro.”

Jiao Yuyin was so angry at being called "brother" that he laughed.

...

Occasionally, a night breeze would blow under the bridge, obscuring the moon's shadow and plunging the area into darkness.

Lu Yu placed the quilt on two large pieces of cardboard inside the bridge arch and turned to leave.

Jiao Yuyin followed Lu Yu outside for less than two minutes, and Lu Yu's canine teeth reappeared.

Jiao Yuyin's day's worries seemed to dissipate somewhat. "Did she hear the old woman's thoughts? Did she see the blanket?"

Lu Yu didn't deliberately suppress her smile and nodded.

The moonlight was hazy, as if it could warm people's hearts.
