After leaving the Grapevine Courtyard, Jiao Yuyin drove back to the Jiao Family Mansion with Luyu in his car.
Sunday evening is the time for the Jiao family to have a family dinner.
Jiao Yuyin and Lu Yu sat on the living room sofa, listening quietly to their eldest sister Jiao Hua'an and second sister-in-law Wang Hui's rambling conversation.
Jiao Cheng, leaning on his cane, watched with a smile as the children played around his knees.
The nanny came over and said that dinner was ready.
Jiao Cheng glanced around and said, "Where's Mi Yangren? She hasn't come down yet. Go and call her."
The nanny agreed and went upstairs to call someone.
The family members took their seats at the dining table one after another.
Jiao Cheng, sitting in the main seat, asked Wang Hui, "How much longer until the second son comes out?"
Wang Hui had just sat down, straightened her posture, and said, "There's still a little over a month left."
"Yes, he has suffered for this family during this time."
Jiao Cheng had barely begun speaking when the sound of heavy footsteps echoed down the stairs.
Mi Yang, who had come on aggressively, threw his phone on the table with a loud bang.
The phone was still lit up. The photo showed a woman holding Jiao Cheng's arm, sharing an umbrella in the rain.
Lu Yu recognized Cen Li at a glance.
Lu Yu glanced at Jiao Yuyin without leaving a trace. His calm eyes concealed all emotions, revealing no fluctuation whatsoever.
Jiao Cheng glanced impatiently at Mi Yang, then looked at his fourth son, Jiao Yuwei, who was sitting upright, sighed, and said, "Let's eat first, we'll talk about it later."
Mi Yang glared at her, his voice trembling, "Don't think I don't know. The entertainment company that was just starting out, which had been managed by the second and third in the family, was just beginning to show promise when you took it all back. Was it all because of this bitch!"
"Who gave you permission to interfere in the Jiao family's business?" Jiao Cheng's voice carried an air of authority, though he was not angry.
The rhetorical question, which seems to be an attempt to evade responsibility, says it all.
Mi Yang had noticed this over time; Jiao Cheng would often say it was too far or too late, and he gradually got used to staying at other places.
But what desires could a man in his early sixties possibly have for romantic love? She really didn't think about having a lover.
It wasn't until the people she had arranged sent back the investigation data that she was awakened from her self-deception.
Mi Yang roared as if he had gone mad, "You keep a mistress, and you even keep an actress!"
He grabbed the bowl and smashed it on the ground.
"Spending so much money to pave the way for your mistress, just so she can get a lead role? You're quite the generous sugar daddy!"
"Disrespectful to elders! He'll never change, even after a lifetime. He goes looking for vixens just because he smells them!"
The plates and bowls on the table shattered amidst Mi Yang's cursing, scattering broken fragments.
Porcelain shards flew everywhere, and for a moment no one stopped Mi Yang from venting his anger.
Jiao Yuyin pulled Lu Yu up and shielded him behind him.
Lu Yu glanced at the Jiao family members who were watching coldly.
Such scenes seem to have played out countless times in the Jiao family mansion.
Jiao Yuyin moved aside, covered Jiao Yuwei's ears, and then scooped him up and placed him next to Lu Yu.
After all, he is the youngest brother in the family. The pain of witnessing his parents' falling out should not be left to the child.
Knowing this, Jiao Yuyin still couldn't bear to stand by and watch coldly.
The argument continued on the other side of the table.
Jiao Yuyin coaxed Jiao Yuwei, saying, "Little brother, why don't you take your three nieces upstairs to play?"
Jiao Yu remained silent throughout, only shaking his head with a blank expression.
Jiao Cheng gave the nanny a wink, and the nanny came over to coax Jiao Yuwei to leave the restaurant.
Jiao Yu did not twist or move at all.
Lu Yu gently rubbed Jiao Yuwei's head and said in a gentle voice, "You're the uncle, you should be more well-behaved than your nieces."
"Third Sister-in-law..." Jiao Yu looked up at Lu Yu, his dark eyes glistening with tears, "Can you come with us?"
Lu Yu and Jiao Yuyin exchanged a glance. Jiao Yuyin, on the other hand, looked relaxed. "Then, Third Brother and Third Sister-in-law, we'll take you upstairs to play."
Jiao Cheng nodded and breathed a sigh of relief.
The eldest sister-in-law, Meng Qin, and the second sister-in-law, Wang Hui, were overjoyed and pushed the child towards Jiao Yuyin's side.
The dirty secrets of the adult world are not honorable, and it's always good to let children hear less about them.
Jiao Yuyin and Lu Yu led the four children toward the room of their fourth brother, Jiao Yuwei.
As they crossed the corner of the stairs, Jiao Yuyin leaned close to Lu Yu's ear and whispered, "Don't worry, there's no need to listen to your inner thoughts. There's nothing to hear about these things."
Lu Yu looked at Jiao Yuyin with surprise and doubt, but the look in his eyes that said "Don't worry about anything" reassured her a lot.
Jiao Yuwei's room was very large, and the southwest corner was filled with assembled Lego sets of various sizes and styles.
Jiao Yushen's eldest daughter, Jiao Jiaqing, sat silently on a small chair in the corner of the room. Jiao Jiaci and Jiao Jiali, however, kept asking Jiao Yushen which toys they could play with.
Jiao Yu didn't display the generous and forthright manner of an uncle. He waved his hand and said, "You can touch any of the toys in the room. Just don't touch the Lego set that's already assembled on one side of the wall."
Jiao Yuyin placed his large hand on Jiao Yuwei's small shoulder, a hint of struggle in his eyes, "Is there anything you want to play?"
Jiao Yuwei slowly shook his head, his resolute eyes revealing a rational maturity that shouldn't belong to a child.
"Third Brother, I know what today's events represent..." Jiao Yuwei looked at the row of Lego creations, his voice not loud, but calm and solemn enough, "Thank you."
No words seemed able to comfort Jiao Yuwei; encouragement and sympathy were words Jiao Yuwei did not really need.
Lu Yu knelt down and looked Jiao Yuwei straight in the eye. "Can you help me build Lego?"
Jiao Jiaqing, who had been silent all along, slightly raised his head, and his incredulous expression did not escape Jiao Yuyin's eyes.
Jiao Yuyin could probably guess that suspicion and distrust were ingrained in the Jiao family.
Lu Yu didn't try to win Jiao Yuwei over with any flattery or empty words; instead, he directly comforted Jiao Yuwei through his actions. They only talked about having fun and relaxing, not about the dark secrets behind it all.
This is the straightforward and beautiful thing that every member of the Jiao family longs for.
Jiao Yu did not pull out a brand new Lego set from the cabinet, and judging from the size of the box, it was clear that this was no small project.
Jiao Yuyin, Lu Yu, and the four children joined in one after another and started building Lego.
