Chapter 227 Ambitious Attempts

He Yue raised an eyebrow; so that's what it was about.

She noticed it, of course, since it had been someone who had been with her for a long time, but she didn't take it seriously. However, seeing that Hailan's face was particularly bad, she amused herself and teased her. She stroked her chin and pondered for a moment, looking puzzled: "What's wrong? I think it's fine."

"Still fine?!" Hailan's eyes widened, her anger rising: "You're really too carefree, Madam. You're such a grown woman, how could you not notice anything amiss? But I saw it clearly yesterday. When you and the Thirteenth Prince returned to the manor, she was dressed up so extravagantly, and she smiled so happily when she saw him. She dared to act like that in front of you. Isn't this deliberately disrespectful to Madam?"

"Well, it's understandable for a young lady to dress up nicely. Besides, the Thirteenth Master didn't even look at her. What's the point of her smiling so happily? I think you're just worried and confused. Maybe she's just happy to see me back." Heyue said calmly and unconcerned.

Hailan rolled her eyes, her cheeks puffed out in anger: "You really love to joke. Do you have to be so happy to see you? Didn't you see that her eyes were practically glued to the Thirteenth Prince? It's a waste that the Fujin took her in and treated her so well, yet she's so ungrateful and treats the Fujin like this."

He Yue recalled that thin, timid little girl from back then.

Since following Heyue, Chunrui has become noticeably more lively than before. As she grows older, she becomes increasingly beautiful, and her charming appearance makes her even more endearing.

After Heyue married into the Thirteenth Prince's household, she noticed that Chunrui's gaze towards the Thirteenth Prince was somewhat different.

He wasn't one of those scheming people whose intentions were too obvious; how could He Yue not understand?

It's understandable that he would be attracted to a young and beautiful girl, especially given Thirteen's status and appearance.

Chunrui had never done anything wrong and had always served Heyue diligently. Thirteen had always ignored the maids around Heyue, so Heyue had no interest in paying attention to her.

Seeing Chunrui's outfit and expression yesterday, it would be a lie to say I wasn't emotional at all.

There's no need to get worked up over things that haven't happened yet; just pretend you haven't seen them.

He Yue hopes to find good homes for the people around her, but she also thinks that Hailan and Chunya are still young and she is not in a hurry to make plans for them.

However, Chunrui was several years older than Hailan and the others, and Heyue had completely forgotten about it over the years.

In that case, it seems that Heyue overlooked Chunrui, no wonder she developed feelings for Shisan.

"Go and fetch Chunrui for me," Heyue instructed Hailan, a surge of excitement welling up inside her; now she had something to do.

Hailan thought Heyue was going to teach Chunrui a lesson, so she happily agreed and left.

Heyue then asked Chunya to call over Granny Wang.

Not long after, Hailan brought Chunrui in first.

Chunrui followed Hailan with her head down, bowing tremblingly: "This servant greets Your Highness. May I ask what Your Highness's orders are?"

Seeing her so reserved, Heyue glanced at Hailan suspiciously, wondering what the girl had said to her, and how frightened she looked.

However, He Yue didn't have time to ask her anything and went straight to the point: "I have something to ask you."

"Please speak, Madam." Her voice trembled even more.

He Yue rubbed her forehead, wondering if she looked that scary.

He didn't bother to ponder her thoughts and continued, "You've been by my side for many years now, and you're getting on in years. I've been negligent all these years and forgot to find you a good family. I'll have Granny Wang inquire about the servants and guards in the mansion later. I'll pick a few good ones. If you're interested, I'll prepare some dowry for you and settle things in a grand and respectable way. After all, you're one of my people, and no one will bully you after you marry into the family. What do you think?"

With a "thump," Chunrui knelt down without saying a word.

He Yue initially thought she was expressing gratitude, but the next moment she saw her eyes were filled with tears: "Madam, did I do something wrong? Why did you send me away?"

He Yue stammered, realizing that she sounded like she was punishing her. Had she misunderstood? Or had she not expressed herself clearly?

He cleared his throat and patiently explained, "I'm not trying to get rid of you. It's just that a girl has to get married eventually. It's my negligence over the years that has delayed your marriage. I just want to find you a good match."

"My lady, I don't want to get married. Please let me serve you for the rest of my life." Chunrui kowtowed repeatedly.

He Yue's forehead throbbed. Something seemed off. Didn't women in ancient times all hope to marry a good husband? She should be happy that he was making plans for her, so why did she look like she had been wronged and would rather die than submit?

Before they could come up with a solution, Granny Wang arrived.

Wang Mama bowed to Heyue, who then invited her to sit down. Wang Mama repeatedly said she dared not sit down, and then glanced at Chunrui kneeling there, asking in confusion, "Madam, has this girl done something wrong?"

He Yue smiled bitterly: "She did nothing wrong. I was just thinking that she was getting old and wanted to find a suitable person for her in the manor, but she refused and insisted on staying by my side."

A glint flashed in Wang Mama's eyes, her back straightened slightly, and her gaze toward Chunrui became somewhat sharp. A slight smile played on her lips: "What young lady doesn't get married? Isn't that nonsense? Miss Chunrui is getting on in years. If she stays any longer, she'll truly become an old maid, and wouldn't that be our Fujin's fault? Perhaps Miss Chunrui doesn't want to marry a servant and wants to find a respectable family outside to be her principal wife. That's not a problem either. You're someone close to the Fujin, so it should be very easy for you."

Chunrui lowered her head and stammered, "Replying to Your Highness, this servant does not want to, this servant is unwilling. Please let this servant follow you for the rest of my life."

"Oh? So you mean you want to self-comb?" Granny Wang asked again, her voice still gentle, but her eyes were cold as she glanced at He Yue.

Heyue understood what Granny Wang meant. She remained silent, already having some guesses in her mind. Her smile gradually faded, and she casually leaned back in her chair, playing with her sleeves.

"This servant...this servant..." Chunrui was speechless for a moment, kneeling there, extremely embarrassed.

Granny Wang turned to Heyue, smiling broadly, "Madam, this servant thinks Miss Chunrui has great ambitions. You can't make the decision yourself, so what do you think..."

After this test, Heyue wasn't a fool; how could she not understand?

I just didn't expect her to be so persistent.

Since she has already harbored disloyal intentions, Heyue will not keep her any longer: "Fine, just take her..."

After all, she served me, so I'll just give her some money and kick her out.

Before she could finish speaking, Chun Ya rushed in: "Madam, something terrible has happened..."

Granny Wang sternly rebuked, "How can you be so unruly? How dare you act so disrespectfully in front of the Princess Consort?!"

Chun Ya's face paled, filled with fear. She immediately knelt down and begged for forgiveness: "My lady, I was wrong. I will never dare to do it again."

He Yue was helpless. This Granny Wang was too strict with her subordinates, making them all act as if they were seeing a demon when they saw her, and dared not relax their guard in the slightest.

These people were used to being at ease in front of He Yue, and they often found themselves being scolded by Granny Wang, so they casually waved their hands and said, "Get up."

Seeing her so flustered, he frowned and asked, "What happened?"

Chun Ya remembered what she was going to say and immediately reported, "Madam, the Sixth Princess has met with someone!"
