Chapter 255 Don't judge a book by its cover

Who is it?

Whose voice is so gentle?

Like ice and snow melting away, it instantly melted away the defensiveness and resistance in her heart.

It was as if she was walking in the dark, with only the person she was holding tightly in front of her as her only support.

Aside from her sister, she had never relied on or trusted anyone like this before. Perhaps it was the gentleness and familiarity in that voice that made her choose to believe.

Before I knew it, I had fallen into a coma.

She didn't know how long she had slept in the dark, but when she finally opened her eyes, she saw a familiar yet unfamiliar scene before her.

It feels unfamiliar because this isn't the Thirteenth Prince's residence, yet it feels familiar because it resembles the Fourth Prince's study.

Covered with a thin blanket, Heyue propped herself up and sat up, only to find herself sleeping on a chaise longue. Through the half-open window, she could vaguely see the orange-red sunset reflecting on half the sky.

Turning around and looking around, I could clearly see the figure of the Fourth Prince behind the desk.

Heyue nearly tumbled off the chaise longue. She sat up abruptly, gave a hasty curtsy, and then hesitated to say anything.

She asked herself how she got there. Thinking about everything before she fainted, she realized that the Fourth Prince must have found her and brought her here. But how could the Fourth Prince have happened to find her there?

Could it really be that he arranged to meet me? Was what I heard while I was unconscious real, or was it all a dream?

Asking him why he didn't send her back to the Thirteenth Prince's residence seemed inappropriate.

If he were to be sent back by the Fourth Prince while unconscious, wouldn't that invite some gossip?

In the end, Heyue was left with only one question: "Fourth Master, how long have I been asleep?"

The Fourth Prince was writing diligently when he heard this. He glanced up at her and said indifferently, "Two hours."

Two hours, or four hours?

He Yue groaned inwardly. Had she really spent four hours alone with the Fourth Prince?

I wonder what the people in the Fourth Prince's mansion will think.

With things having come to this, Heyue had nothing more to say. She quickly bowed and said, "Fourth Master, then I won't bother you any longer. I'll take my leave now."

In this situation, Heyue really didn't know what to say, so she could only make a move and leave.

No sooner had he turned around and taken a step than the Fourth Prince's deep voice rang out from behind him: "Halt!"

Heyue had no choice but to stop reluctantly, inwardly groaning.

She didn't know when it started, but being in the same room with the Fourth Prince had become such an embarrassing thing for her, and now she couldn't avoid it even if she wanted to.

"Sit down." His calm voice came from behind, neither happy nor angry, yet it exuded an undeniable authority.

Heyue pouted and had no choice but to sit back down, keeping her head down and refusing to look at him.

"Is the master really that terrifying?" The Fourth Prince walked over and stood in front of her with his hands behind his back.

He Yue quickly shook her head: "How could that be? Fourth Master is overthinking it."

“You used to call him Fourth Brother all the time, why aren’t you calling him that now?”

His voice was low and cold; He choked on his words, unable to respond.

"Is there anything else that's bothering you?" The Fourth Prince sighed softly, seemingly helpless yet indulgent, and changed the subject on his own.

He Yue breathed a sigh of relief, no longer dwelling on the previous question, and shook her head: "No, no."

The Fourth Prince looked at her carefully for a few moments and saw that she had a rosy complexion and was full of energy, so he was relieved to see that there was nothing wrong with her.

"Now you can tell me what happened? Why did you faint at the inn?"

Hearing this, He Yue frowned in annoyance. After thinking for a moment, she realized there was nothing she couldn't say, especially since it concerned him. So she told the truth: "Someone asked me to meet at the inn in Fourth Brother's name. I thought Fourth Brother had something to say to me, so I went. But I ended up being drugged."

He Yue didn't say who the other person was. Even if she did, since she was unconscious at the time, how could she explain knowing the other person's identity?

Besides, they are brothers after all. Even if they knew, what could they do?

Their relationship was already one of irreconcilable conflict, so there was no need to add this to the mix.

But she'll get her revenge eventually; she won't let this go unpunished!

The Fourth Prince stared at her for a while, then took out a slip of paper from his sleeve and handed it to her.

He Yue raised an eyebrow in confusion, took it, and was suddenly stunned when she saw the words on it.

This was clearly the letter she had sent to arrange a meeting with the Fourth Prince at the inn; the handwriting was exactly the same as hers.

No wonder the Fourth Prince appeared in time and saved him.

It turns out that both he and the Fourth Prince were set up, but what was their purpose?

Doing nothing but drugging her and then sending the Fourth Prince to rescue her makes no sense.

He Yue recalled the snippets of conversation she overheard, and it seemed they had other motives. However, the Tenth Prince strongly objected, and the two had a fight. Then, the Fourth Prince appeared.

They must have had a purpose in sending the Fourth Prince over, but what exactly was the reason?

“I didn’t write this.” Heyue looked up at the Fourth Prince.

The Fourth Prince gave her a deep look and nodded slightly: "I will find out the truth. You don't need to worry. I think they are targeting me. You have also been implicated. Try to stay in the manor these days. If you go out, take guards with you."

He Yue nodded, indicating that she understood, but she still couldn't understand why the other party would deliberately plot against her and the Fourth Prince.

Could it be because I have frequent contact with the Fourth Master?

That seems a bit far-fetched.

More importantly, how did they come to know their own handwriting?

A hand suddenly reached out towards her.

Heyue subconsciously took a step back, staring warily at the Fourth Prince who was leaning slightly forward.

The Fourth Prince stared at her intently with his dark eyes, flicked her forehead with his finger, and chuckled, "Little girl, are you really scared by me?"
